  1. Let’s settle this:

Sonic 1, Sonic 2 MD, Sonic 2 GG, SEGASonic, Sonic CD, Sonic Chaos, S3&K.

    Put them in chronological order.

    1. Wraith

      Wraith

      SEGA Sonic the Hedgehog > Sonic 1 > Sonic CD >  Sonic 2 > Sonic 3 >  Sonic 2 GG > Sonic Chaos > Sonic Triple Trouble

SEGASonic, Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3&K, and then I tack all the game gear stuff on the end as miscellaneous adventures Sonic had at some point

@Tracker_TD so you think the inconsistency with the Chaos Emerald amount should just be ignored?

    4. Tracker_TD

      Tracker_TD

Yeah. Gameplay takes precedent over logic in those scenarios, it's the same deal with Fighters. Bean's emerald is a novelty toy, sorted.

    5. Dr. Mechano

      Dr. Mechano

With the Fighters, I think there are seven Emeralds, but one of them gets duplicated along with your fighter for the mirror match.

    6. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

Prologue: Sonic is a famous hedgehog along a string of islands; he's athletic, he's cool, he's an air pilot, a literal rockstar in a band and has a ton of fans. Dr Robotnik hates him (and his music).
SEGASonic: Sonic's first major run-in with Dr Robotnik. Gets captured alongside two other acquaintances and they work together to escape. They take down his fortress and go their separate ways for a time.
Sonic 1: Considering this failure a fluke, Robotnik retreats to South Island to move on with his plan to nab the Chaos Emeralds and use their power for his as of now unrealized Death Egg Project. Sonic shows up, notices his little animal friends are being used to power Robotnik's Badniks, and proceeds to whip him good. Robotnik retreats.
Sonic CD: Twice humiliated by Sonic, and with the Chaos Emeralds out of reach, Robotnik goes to Plan B; to collect the Time Stones on the Miracle Planet to turn it into a mechanical orbital weapon. Sonic shows up as expected, and Robotnik unveils his Sonic robot doppelganger, Metal Sonic. Amy, a fan of Sonic from his rockstar days, stalks him and gets kidnapped instead. Sonic rescues her and frees the Miracle Planet. Metal Sonic is broken and lost on the planet for now.
Sonic 2: Robotnik, now thrice humiliated, decides to go all in on his Death Egg Project. He instead opts to mine resources from Westside Island (rings, chemicals, oil) to power his weapon. He makes a crappy Sonic robot. Sonic flies in on his airplane and meets Tails, a native. He shows promise as a valuable sidekick and they become fast friends. Sonic collects the Chaos Emeralds in the meantime and discovers he can use their power to turn into Super Sonic. He takes down the Death Egg and cements his friendship with Tails.
Sonic 3&K: The Death Egg crashlands on the mysterious Angel Island, where Knuckles, the last echidna, guards a powerful source of energy. Robotnik quickly devises a plan to use that source, the Master Emerald, to re-power the Death Egg. He makes a less crappy Sonic robot. Sonic and Tails fly in and are blindsided by Knuckles, tricked by Robotnik. After a big adventure, they discover that Knuckles was duped and they team up to destroy the Death Egg once and for all. Soon after, Sonic scatters the emeralds so Robotnik won't get his grubby hands on them again.
Sonic 2 GG: Robotnik, thoroughly done with Sonic's interference, captures Tails as bait and holds him for ransom. He makes a really crappy Sonic robot. Sonic races to rescue Tails, and succeeds.
Sonic Chaos: Things are starting to get old hat. After finding a signature for the Chaos Emeralds on South Island, Robotnik heads there posthaste to nab as many as he can. After nabbing just one, this somehow triggers a reaction that causes South Island to start sinking into the ocean. He also mechanizes parts of the Green Hill Zone to goad Sonic. Sonic and Tails catch wind of this and head over to correct the issue as soon as possible. They succeed and defeat Robotnik yet again.
Sonic Generations: After saving South Island once again, Sonic goes for a stroll through the restored Green Hill only to be sucked into a time portal with Tails and get roped into an adventure with their future selves. They make short work of the Eggmen and return home. This may have consequences down the road for the stability of spacetime.
Sonic Triple Trouble: After breathing a sigh of relief, things quiet down. Robotnik takes advantage of the sense of peace and nabs all of the Chaos Emeralds to power a doomsday weapon. Things go awry when the Emeralds don't work quite the way he anticipates, and they scattered across the planet. While Robotnik was able to find one of them, the rest are missing. He locates Knuckles (freshly confused about all the time paradoxes that went on in the last game) and tells him that Sonic's gone mad with power and is looking for the Emeralds. Meanwhile a greedy bounty hunter named Fang the Sniper has discovered the Emeralds and, acting independently, is keeping the Emeralds for himself in the Special Stage. Sonic and Tails get back to work to wrestle the Emeralds from Fang, knock sense into Knuckles and kick Robotnik in the teeth once again.
Sonic 3D Flickies Island: Exhausted after everything he's been through, Sonic retreats to Flickies Island to chill with the locals. Except Robotnik's back on his BS and is capturing the small animals and shoving them into his Badniks. We learn that they have magical abilities to travel through Warp Rings, explaining how they can be used as batteries in robots. Sonic rescues them all and sends Robotnik packing. Tails and Knuckles were there for some reason.
Sonic Mania: It's been a while since Sonic and Robotnik first started butting heads, and the aforementioned consequences of messing with the space-time continuum are knocking at the door. A mysterious purple rock shows up out of nowhere. Robotnik discovers the Phantom Ruby on Angel Island, and tries using it to help create the biggest robot ever, as well as reviving Metal Sonic. Warping all over the planet on some familiar and new territory, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles proceed to take down Robotnik and his Hardboiled Heavies. After a heated battle against Robotnik and the Heavy King, Sonic gets warped into a separate timeline.
Sonic Forces: Sonic gets warped to a reality where Dr Eggman has taken over the world. He's having none of that and gets to work moving across levels from left to right, and blows up a pretty shoddy version of the Death Egg. Everyone recognizes that the two Sonics are no longer part of the same timeline. After taking down the Eggman Empire, Sonic returns to his timeline.
Sonic Mania Plus (Encore): While Sonic was missing, Robotnik took advantage of the confusion and captured Sonic's old acquaintances Mighty and Ray. Sonic rescues them and they find out that he's trying to revive his Titanic Monarch project. Meanwhile, the Heavies grab ahold of the Phantom Ruby and use it to warp reality yet again, causing the world to display in strange colors and subtly changing the landscape to trip up Sonic and co. They defeat Robotnik yet again, leave Metal Sonic broken on the Miracle Planet, and the Hardboiled Heavies become a non-threat and Sonic and the rest can finally relax. The team goes off in their separate ways.
Sonic 4 E1/E2: Robotnik is absolutely DONE with Sonic's nonsense. Out of patience (and out of funds), he re-uses all of his old machines in his new master plan to re-capture the Miracle Planet, revive his prized Metal Sonic, and destroy Sonic once and for all. Sonic, with Tails soon rejoining him, get to work to beat Robotnik once more. Miracle Planet remains captured inside of a Death Egg mkII shell.

I have nothing for Knuckles Chaotix or the two Game Gear Tails games, nor the occasional instance where there are 6 emeralds instead of 7. Sonic 1 can be early canon weirdness, anything after is probably balancing for the shorter nature of the Game Gear games.

I'd say sonic triple trouble happens after generations, erasing the events of sonic 3k due to time travel and the reason why knuckles is fooled by robotnik, AND meta wise, Why Sega likes to neglect the whole game. They officially become friends at the end of this game then sonic blast happens. Robotnik attempts to build a weaker version of the death egg called the silver castle and gets defeated. Tails is absent from this game so at the same time he's on his own adventures SKY PATROL AND TAILS ADVENTURE. After that, everybody decides to go gokarting for some reason and sonic drift happens.

      @Tracker_TD

That's more or less how I feel, but I do think 8-bit Sonic 1 is a unique adventure and not simply a retelling or alternate telling of the first game.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Technical Files, kind of the internal series bible for Sonic in Japan, mentions that Sonic fought Eggman on South Island twice. Eggman mentions how angry he is that Sonic keeps beating him in the Japanese manual for the 16-bit version of Sonic 1, while this detail is absent in the 8-bit version. The Technical Files also mention Eggman vows revenge on Sonic after losing for the first time, which better gels with Eggman's anger of losing to Sonic in the 16-bit manual then the 8-bit manual where he mentions no such thing.

Plus, the 8-bit version of Sonic 1 begins with Eggman simply trying to attack Sonic with his Eggmobile, no fancy checker balls, drills or lazers yet. I interpret this as Eggman not being too familiar with Sonic yet, and if we want to even go further with this theory, the Roller badnik in Spring Yard Zone bears a resemblance to Sonic in both appearance and abilities, almost serving as a prototype to the Sonic robots that Eggman would eventually make. The Roller badnik is not in the 8-bit version of the game, leaving the possibility open that Eggman based the badnik on Sonic after previously encountering him.

Because of all this, I believe it's possible the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 1 is a prequel to the Mega Drive/Genesis version of the game. At least it is in my headcannon.

    11. Tracker_TD

      Tracker_TD

...that makes a lot of sense! If I ever update my big ol' timeline I might actually go with that. I think I'd keep SEGASonic first though, I dunno.

    12. Big Panda

      Big Panda

@Tracker_TD perhaps change it to Sonic 1 GG > SEGASonic > Sonic 1 MD.

Robotnik realises just how much of a nuisance Sonic is from the GG game, so tries to get him out the way in SEGASonic in preparation for his takeover in Sonic 1 MD.

    13. Plumbers_Helper

      Plumbers_Helper

Oh, I agree with SEGASonic. Although it's just as possible that it takes place some time latter as a form of revenge, putting it in the beginning of the timeline just works for a variety of reasons.

*eyes glance over at the newly discovered rollercoaster-esque highway filled with loops and hills*

      *sweats and bites lip*

    5. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

It would have been nice if they had integrated the highway with Amy’s capture by maybe making the objective to chase after her, like a reverse version of the race sections you go through as Tails.

    6. Dee Dude

      Dee Dude

There’s alot of confusing plot-related questions regarding stages.

Why Big think a loose frog is in a theme park of all places?

Why would Knuckles head to a casino, did he sense it there? (and why was there a sonic statue)

    7. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

If you exit the game between levels, upon returning you'll get one of those plot summaries from Sonic explaining that he searched the "midnight highway" for Amy. It's a part of the story at a stretch, but in all likelihood you'll never notice it and it's poorly explained.

    8. JezMM

      JezMM

Yeah the legit answer is that Speed Highway is simply a gameplay representation of Sonic searching the city for Amy, much as many of the incidental stages in Unleashed are justified as Sonic simply clearing out Eggman's forces from the area.

    9. Ferno

      Ferno

the stage didnt need a reason, it just invited itself in because it knew it was the best stage in the game

    10. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Ferno could be talking about Skyscraper Scamper in Unleashed.

    12. Big Panda

      Big Panda

@Dee Dude yes. Knuckles probably wouldn't have known where to even start looking if he couldn't sense them.

    13. Celestia

      Celestia

@Dee Dude IIRC the  statue is gradually built as you collect Rings in that level in Sonic's chapter. In fact I think in order to complete it you have to get a lot more Rings than you actually need to finish the stage.

I guess the implication is that Sonic either paid to have the statue made, or the casino runners built it in his honour / for marketing (it'd make sense to brag about how a world famous hero visited their establishment).

The animation really is an acquired taste. I remember liking it as a child though, however much I may find it unsettling to look at now.

It did do some things plot wise that I'm not sure you'd really see in children's cartoon these days though. For one, it was an established fact that Angela's teacher was a nudist at weekends, and the kids even bore witness to it. And another, one of the classmates was established as a devout Catholic, and it wag played for laughs. Do you see such political themes being played for laughs in kids TV now? I'm genuinely asking, cause I've no idea.

I can't stand it when TV show/movie credits sequences or adverts use it for even a short amount of time, let alone an entire 20 minute TV show.  It's just so uncomfortable and uncanny to look at.

    1. Forte-Metallix

      Forte-Metallix

Are they not meant to be the same character?

This new topic's the first I've ever heard of UK!Dennis.

    2. Spin Attaxx

      Spin Attaxx

@Forte-the-Bell-Tolls No, they're not. While American Dennis is a well-meaning young kid who gets into mischief (I think?), UK Dennis is older and (or at least was) more malevolent. As in, "I'm going to beat up those prissy kids" malevolent.

    3. Badnik Mechanic

      Badnik Mechanic

It's quite shocking how similar they are, they look totally different but there's also the odd one or two oddities which pop up.

    4. Big Panda

      Big Panda

@Spin Attaxx he's not *that* sadistic. I say he's best summed up as a British Bart Simpson.

    5. Spin Attaxx

      Spin Attaxx

OK. Then again, it's been years since I read The Beano, and I think I was more interested in Roger the Doger anyway, so my memory's a bit hazy :U

    6. Forte-Metallix

      Forte-Metallix

      Ah.

Also, now I know where you got the idea for that gag where Shade saws Lumina's guitar in half, Spin.

    7. Spin Attaxx
    8. Big Panda

      Big Panda

I actually haven't read the Beano much myself. My earliest impression of him was from watching the animated 90's series, we he was more of a prankster.

    9. Badnik Mechanic

      Badnik Mechanic

The early 90's series is odd, it had more an influence over the comic if anything.

    10. Tara

      Tara

Worth a note is that the creators of the two Dennis characters had no contact with each other and no way of knowing  that one was working on the other.  So the coincidence is quite amusing.  I thought it was pretty neat.

    11. Badnik Mechanic

      Badnik Mechanic

Actually... here is the first cartoon adaptation of UK Dennis.

      Starts at 1:30

That episode is based exactly of one of the comic strips from one of the Beano Books.

Vs this episode of the cartoon which showed on TV (the first major TV show).

Then there's also the rare puppet show... which is... strange...

    12. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Yep, the second is the one I remember.

Back in the days of RBY, I'd have said yes.

    7. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

The PokéDex entires just don't reflect anything happening the games otherwise. The Kalos war is also incredibly vague, and comes down to a dude and his Pokémon friend.

    8. Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

      Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

Notice I also mentioned Tapu Blue Blood, a Pokemon that laid waste to a good portion of an island. A site which you do visit in - game.

Either way,  I find the generalization a bit unfair.

    9. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

      Who is Tapu Blue Blood?

Nah, I know what you're on about - the ghost place and haunted supermarket, right? Sure. My main point was just my distaste for how much more soppy Pokémon has become with each Generation. The more interesting moments are still glossed out, and totally shadowed by stories of friendship. Bleh

  11. Honest question: of all the changes to make to Sonic’s design, why are BLUE ARMS such a freaking deal-breaker to so many people?

It’s the least intrusive change you could possibly make to this character.

    1. Kittea

      Kittea

They're not distracting or anything so I guess those people are just purists?

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

It's such a strange strange hill for the film makers to die in. They've basically pulled everything about Sonic back to his normal game design, only proportioned and detailed differently (eg fur) to fit into the live action setting. All that's left are his blue arms and two separate eyes. Neither is better or worse than normal, hear different for the sake of being different. Why bother?

    3. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

Maybe to you. Not to me.

It doesn't look right or even good since it makes his arms blur and vanish into the design when they're specifically designed to stand out and much more to the point, it's wrong. If they were always blue, that'd be one thing, but they've literally never been that way officially and it's a mistake westerners in particular seem to always make since anytime someone who knows jackshit about Sonic tries to design him or sees a picture of him, they always color his arms wrong or go "Duh, why aren't his arms blue? I don't follow the series, but weren't they always like that??" and it's really irritating. They've been peach/light tan for 28 FUCKING YEARS!

...So yeah, it's just annoying to me, is all. I don't like it and no argument for them will ever change my mind.

    4. Diogenes

They were literally that way officially in a game that came out just a few years ago. Seemed a bit like an overreaction when people took a big issue with it then too.

    6. Big Panda

      Big Panda

@Blue Blood you’re not really trying to suggest the separated eyes are “change for the sake of change” are you?

    7. JezMM

      JezMM

To be honest I didn't even notice the arms are still blue so it's a big whatever to me lol.  Guess I'm still used to it from Boom.

    8. Kittea

      Kittea

@Waveshocker Sigma Artistic liberties maybe? The colour of Sonics arms whether blue or peach doesn't add or take away anything from the character. As for his peach arms being designed to stand out when in motion, I disagree. Unless it's a close up shot Sonic is usually shown as a, well, "blue blur" when in motion. You couldn't see his arms let alone other specifics for that matter.

    9. Thigolf

      Thigolf

I'm so confused why people are annoyed by having his arms fur colored when like 80% of the franchise's characters have fur colored arms

    10. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

@Tornado By "Official" I mean "main series". Besides, you're not seriously counting Boom as a good example of it, are you? Cause we'll definitely have to agree to disagree on that.

@Thigolf Because those characters started off that way and looked good with it, so it wasn't a problem? Most of those characters also don't have the same kind of color patterns as he and Amy do, either, so expectations are different.

It's really not that confusing, but whatever. Ya'll like what you like.

    4. Big Panda

    5. Shiguy

      Shiguy

I'm not basing my judgement on what has been seen, i'm basing it off everything else that has been seen. Forces Green Hill is just adding to that pile.

    6. JezMM

      JezMM

I was a "it's just the tutorial stage" defender too dude, but we've seen two Modern Sonic stages and three Avatar stages now.  They all involve corridors, homing attack chains, scripted sequences and barely any platforming.

I'm still hoping, but the prognosis is not looking good.

    7. Diogenes

      Diogenes

@Eerie-Ernest-Panda it's because this is the worst level they've shown yet. even if it's likely an even earlier level than modern sonic's city stage, it's still setting a new low for the game, instead of things getting better as we see more of the game.

    8. Dr. Mechano

      Dr. Mechano

Giving this argument the benefit of the doubt, if this stage is really a bad representation of the game, then it's still Sonic Team's incompetence at choosing to market their game with a bad demo.

The onus is on them to make people think their game is good, not on the consumer to "give the game a chance" if everything they've seen (and now, played) doesn't impress them.

    9. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Personally, I think the design of this stage is more or less on par with everything else we've seen. I'd hardly call it "worse" or "a new low".

    10. KHCast

      KHCast

If it's on par it's still crap then as station heights modern looks crap too

    11. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Exactly. Everything else we've seen has been either crap or just painfully mediocre. But the impression I'm getting from people is that this demo level somehow ranks even lower.

      But really, that's just my take P;

    12. Dr. Mechano

      Dr. Mechano

The difference is that now they get to play it for themselves, Ernest.

That's the key. Before we were only looking at the game's bad design decisions. Playing it firsthand is a whole other level of experiencing the game's badness, so I definitely get how the demo brought back a resurgence of totally justified negativity toward the game.

  14. Holy crap, I’ve just discovered that Pop (the UK channel) has started showing Dragon Ball Super, and it’s the Funimation dub!

    1. Big Panda

      Big Panda

The reason this surprises me so much is because there’s no “censored” version of the Funi dub as far as I know, and Pop is very much a kids channel, and showing anything even remotely adult on kids channels in the UK is normally forbidden thanks to Ofcom rules (the very same rules that are stopping Cartoon Network UK from having Adult Swim).

    2. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Any idea if the show was edited or redubbed to reduce mature language (which I think is the extent of what Super has)? Funi might have been approached to fix some lines for broadcast on that kind of network.

I’ll take a look when the next episode comes on.

    4. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

      @Zaysho

It has been edited as there was a preexisting edited dub for Australia. If you go to a Dragon Ball Super on POP topic on Kanzenshuu, someone is currently listing all the changes along with video comparisons.

    5. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Response to my earlier reply since I can talk more about it now - I've seen a few episodes. For not having seen the first arc of Super for awhile, the edits weren't too bad. Some fights and such were cut down for time, but the post mentioned goes a lot more in-depth. From what I noticed -

      • Roshi's porn joke in the first episode is changed to only imply it was adult DVDs.
      • Hercule is used
      • There's a nasty Z-related cut that sticks out like a sore thumb (The flashback in Ep 2 where Vegeta punches Trunks has a bad cut that makes it obvious where the actual punch from Vegeta was censored).
      • A lot of King Kai's insults towards Goku was lost, with a lot of him calling Goku an idiot in Ep 5 being replaced with an exhausted "Goku..."
    6. Zaysho

      Zaysho

King Kai was in his right to call Goku an idiot though...

    7. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Don't get me wrong - there's still some of it in tact. I can't remember off the top of my head, but there's moments where he calls Goku a big dummy, among other names. There's also an "Oh Crap" in tact when King Kai flings off into a panic.

    12. Zaysho

iirc the BangZoom dub was produced for Asian territories only. The UK and Australia have typically licensed the Funimation produced dubs these days, especially for home release.

    2. JezMM

      JezMM

While it's a nice story that this CAN happen, it's important to not throw caution to the wind either.  Rebecca Sugar wasn't known for that stuff, it had to be dug up in retrospect.  If one allows oneself to become known for drawing adult content, your prospects may shift, depending on the prudishness of your potential future employers.

    3. Ferno

      Ferno

tbh, i've just accepted that any job i may get may just be in indie-related stuff or things that're teen-rated and up in general. i used to dream about a future at a big studio like CN or something but it's hard to see myself in that kind of environment anymore unless whoever hires me is just really really cool/ chill about whatever i make in my spare time.

    4. Big Panda

      Big Panda

What if you draw a lot of normal art but also do fetish art from time to time (not outright porn)?

    5. JezMM

      JezMM

I mean it's all on a case by case basis.  A lot of artists explore sexuality and opinion varies on what is and isn't "artistic".  Also even though the company/individuals that want(s) to hire you may not care, they may not want to risk the fact that other people (investors, their audience etc) will.

The fact is, as long as there are still subsections of society that consider adult content to be prudish, you're always taking some sort of risk by going for it and it's important to make peace with that.

    6. Ferno

      Ferno

in my exeperience if you become known for lewd stuff, your regular stuff still gets lots of attention from certain parts of the net. you could draw a sandwich or something, post it on your blog,  and super lewd blogs would still interact with the post or reblog it, etc, leaving you wondering what they see in that sandwich.

    7. Big Panda

      Big Panda

      Hmm...

    8. Ferno

      Ferno

if you plan on doing that i'd recommend different screen names, an alias for the other stuff, if you will. just go full on bruce wayne/ batman with it.

in my case though i didn't start out doing that so most of my followers already kinda know about the full spectrum of my stuff, but i still use different screen names anyway for piece of mind

    9. Big Panda

      Big Panda

      Won't people recognise the style?

    10. Ferno

      Ferno

Probably. One idea I had when I first started was to use a different style altogether, as I used to be pretty decent with that type of thing, but it wasnt as fun for me personally and I just said screw it and started using my default style for everything. The key idea, atleast in my mind, is that yeah people may find out, but in the grand scheme of things, atleast super lewd stuff connected to your main screen name won't show up in search engines, because it'll be under the other, non-main one.

Not to mention Mighty being in Mania.

Although, I wouldn’t really care much for a Knuckles’ Chaotix rerelease. It’s not really that great of a game, imo.

    2. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

Branding isn't the issue, it's the fact they want Chaotix buried that badly. Fighters doesn't take much fudging to handwave around the contradiction, Chaotix has its entire backbone on it.

    3. Zaysho

      Zaysho

I can't really think of a good reason for them not to release it at this point. I thought it was strange it missed Gems Collection despite having artwork in that, and it seems to be one of the only classic games not tied down with any other issues that's just buried (save "Door into Summer" appearing in Generations). I have a bit of a fondness for it, so it's a shame there's no official/legit way to play it now.

    4. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

It being missed for Gems was emulation issues (it was planned for that game). It's still a bitch to emulate even now.

    5. Menace2Society

      Menace2Society

Is it really, though? I was able to run the game on my old laptop a few years ago, and it ran perfectly, and my laptop was a pretty wack one.

Maybe the tech wasn’t there back then, but I’m sure machines are more capable of running it now.

    6. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

    12. Badnik Zero

      Badnik Zero

Chaotix needs to be “fixed” in order to be enjoyable. CD was an under appreciated classic, but Chaotix even at its best is just kinda... Eh. Besides the music and special stages there’s not much to remember about it as a game. Who at Sega would consider it worth the effort?

    2. SuperLink

      SuperLink

I don't think "canon" holds much weight in Pokémon, even if Red is in HGSS and BW2, I still think Leaf like.. exists

      tough to say...

    4. Sixth-Rate Soma

      Sixth-Rate Soma

Of course Leaf is canon, she's just Red in drag

    5. Octarine

      Octarine

She was Red in drag the whole time. That's how he got into Erika's gym.

      Seems so.

Kind of a shame, I like Little Miss Baggysocks's design.

Better question: Who even cares about canon in a non-Mystery Dungeon Pokemon game?

    9. TCB

      TCB

      Game wise, yep.

    10. Senator NinjaShark
    11. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Bulbapedia does. Nearly every instance where there's a male/female protagonist is considered 50% canon each. The only reason Leaf doesn't hold much weight in canon is 'cos it's Red who goes on to be the champion in the Johto games.

    12. SuperLink

      SuperLink

Leaf has cool socks and Red doesn't so I think that contributes to at least 80% of canon

  19. I'm curious to know something: if you watch or used to watch the Simpsons, how old were you when you started?

I just saw somebody talk about how their mum wouldn't let them watch the show until they were twelve, and as someone who's been watching since they were about 4 or 5, I found that really crazy.

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Pretty sure I've been watching it since I was a baby. I don't know when exactly I started, but I remember loving The Simpsons at a young age with it being on Channel 4 and the DVD box sets.

    2. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

Pretty much forever. Weird cause my parebts were usually pretty strict but fine with the Simpsons when I was like 1

    3. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

I remember watching it before Robot Wars came on at least (so this would have been when I was 7-8), and I probably watched it before then too.

Wait, you were "young" when it was on Channel 4 Ryan? Man, my memory is back when it was a BBC2 mainstay, that's making me feel old. D:

    4. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

      @VEDJ-F

Don't worry, it was on BBC2 for me as well when I was young, but it was near the time it was booted off the channel. I have faint memories of watching the episode where Homer takes a bunch of people to break into the Super Bowl on BBC2.

    5. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Is it weird that I kinda miss it being on BBC2? I know it makes no difference to the show itself but...I can't explain why.

    6. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

It's because you have nostalgia for it. It's also why I'm pretty sure if Dragon Ball Z aired in the UK again, most would want it on CN UK because that's where they have memories of watching it.

    7. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

I don't even watch the Simpsons any more, so I don't mind where it is.

Still have massive nostalgia for Hit and Run though.

    8. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

I've been told I've watched it when I was really young. Hell, my parents recall a time where I overheard someone said "D'oh!" in the airport, and my toddler mind happily thought Homer (Whom I then called D'oh.) was somewhere nearby.

    9. Patticus

      Patticus

It began airing in the UK on BBC 2 in 1996/1997, when I was 8 years old, in Year 4 at Kingmoor Junior school in Carlisle. I watched it religiously for years, but couldn't keep my interest up when the celebrity cameos started getting super intrusive (the Kim Basinger/Ron Howard/etc secret hideaway episode, eurgh).

I'd have given more of a crap about the show if the characters had aged alongside me, so that every season had them a little older but usually none the wiser. Maybe I could've maintained my connection them them that way. Not many (or any) cartoons do that, though, so I just drifted away from it.

    10. Speederino

      Speederino

I must have been really young because I was watching that as far back as I can remember.

    11. Mr Loopone

      Mr Loopone

I can't remember exactly how old (since I was a baby, it was in early 90s at least) but I've watched Simpsons throughout my life. Our family has had Sky most of my life and I think that I saw the episode Call of the Simpsons on Sky 1. Whether that was the first episode aired on that channel or the first that I watched, I don't know.

      It makes me feel old...

    12. Superstar Introvert CC14

      Superstar Introvert CC14

I only became a fan when I randomly decided to check out the Treehouse of Horror specials one Halloween in like 2007-8ish. I was actually into Futurama first (Thanks to Adult Swim airing it) and the first Simpson-related stories I experienced were the Bongo comics crossovers.

  20. I don't understand all the love for Book of Life. I honestly found it mediocre at best.

    1. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

I thought the art direction was nice and all, but the story was pretty vanilla and the jokes were meh at best just plain cringeworthy at worst.

When I first saw the trailer with the Biz Markie song at the end, I groaned.

    2. Big Panda

      Big Panda

...I thought the art direction was ugly.

    3. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

I could understand what they were going for with the art direciton, wooden marionettes and giving everything a puppet show feel, so I loved it, personally.

    4. Big Panda

      Big Panda

That's fine. I just thought the actual character designs were ugly.

    9. Dee Dude

      Dee Dude

I may not be Mexican but sadly, not even Pixar's Coco is immune to that.

    10. Milo

      Milo

Coco has been in development for years, they can't just retool it into something different because a film with a similar premise left production first.

(Meant to say scrap what they have and restart rather than retool.)

    11. Dee Dude

      Dee Dude

I didn't say it was a rip off or needed to be changed.

Just wanted to point out that Pixar uses it too.

  21. I've seen people saying Beast's Castle is one of the many worlds they'de be happy to never see again... I don't get it. I think there's still more of that world I'd like to explore. Belle's village would be fun.

    7. KHCast

KH2 has plenty of worlds that can easily be put in future games. Land of the Dragons, Space Paranoids, Port Royal, etc.

I thought the original sequel pieces were good. I loved Port Royals.

    9. Wraith

      Wraith

the original sequel parts sucked lots for the most part yeah

    10. KHCast

      KHCast

I see no problem with them. I mean yeah a few were forgettable, but they were meant to tie the worlds to the overarching plot, which they did.(Riku showing up in Land of the Dragons, freaking Luxord in Port Royal(which fit real well), Halloween Town's Robot thing that wanted a heart, etc.

    7. JAiRO

Um... Yes. Many fans don't bother with the mobile titles.

    8. -Mark-

      -Mark-

My boyfriend actually played/ finished TWEWY before he even got into Kingdom Hearts. XD Although I don't think he's finished all the KH games yet so he might not be aware of the references.

    9. KHCast

      KHCast

I don't see why they wouldn't bother in 3D's case. It's probably the closest to capturing what made the original so good gameplay wise, as well as leads straight into KH3.

Sales wise it did pretty well as well, so I'm willing to bet fans botherd with it.

    10. JAiRO

      JAiRO

      @KHCast

Is that so? Link me to a sales comparison between KH1, KH2, and KH3D. I'm willing to be 3D didn't sell as well as the original two did.

    11. KHCast

      KHCast

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/45690/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance/ 1.31 million sounds pretty good for a early 3DS game. So far it's still beating KH1.5 which has a global sale of 1.14 million.

I never said it sold better than 1 or 2. Where did I say that? I said its sold well.

  24. *watches Roxas and Axel scenes in KH2* oh come on how can you possibly look me in the eye and say "Axel is not in love with Roxas"? What he says, how he acts, it's just...HOW IS IT ANYTHING BUT?

    2. KHCast

      KHCast

Someone can have a close connection with a friend. Roxas is his only friend and makes him feel like he has a heart. I really get annoyed when a character had a close connection with someone and that apparently means they love eachother romantically.

    4. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Blame Nomura and his inability to have characters show more emotion over potential love interests than close friendships.

    5. KHCast

      KHCast

Well 3D makes it pretty clear it's more of a bromance like Sonic & Tails.

I mean if your best friend had been going through some horrible inner problems, was missing for a year, etc, wouldn't you be pretty emotional to see him again?

    6. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Sure. But we're not discussing Sora and Riku :P

    7. Mega

Besides, I'd say it's pretty implied to be Roxas x Namine

    9. KHCast

Perhaps I was referring to your comment about emotion over love interests in general lol

    10. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Even if it is Roxas x Namine, Axel's feelings (if they exist) could easily be one-sided.

    11. KHCast

      KHCast

Idk, Lea in 3D seems more chill and leveled about his relationship with Roxas. He seems to have accepted that Roxas is one with Sora now.

  25. Seriously though, where is this shot from?

    eFEPNS.jpg

I mean, I know it's obviously from Sonic Adventure, but where was this grabbed from? It only vaguely resembles the scene in the actual game, and Sonic never makes this expression in the actual game. Is it from a prototype version of the scene? Is there a video of it that it was grabbed from? Is it a publicity shot? If so why go for such a weird frame?

    1. Tracker_TD

      Tracker_TD

    2. Big Panda
    3. Tracker_TD

      Tracker_TD

It's not actually ingame footage or anything, someone just drew it to exaggerate the animation problems in Adventure, and drew it in such a way that it's supposed to resemble the actual model.
