    Archie Sonic Main Discussion

I realised I still had these hiding away, so I thought I might as well share them (it’s not like I could get in trouble for it, right?) Quick backstory: back in 2015, Sonic Super Special Magazine was set to continue with its fourteenth issue, which would have featured content relating to the Worlds Unite crossover, among other things, but it ended up never releasing, and the series as a whole went on what would have been a two year hiatus (it was set to return in early 2017 with a new fourteenth issue, but...yeah). However, this cancelled version of issue 14, through what I can only assume to be a technical error of some kind, very briefly saw the light of day, digitally, on the Archie Comics App. I was lucky enough to grab the issue before it was hastily removed. While I no longer have access to it today, I did manage to take screenshots of the bonus pages!
  2. Apparently the Powerpuff Girls was given an incredibly short-lived UK redub on Channel 5 back in the day.

Normally, the only time American kids shows get redubbed here is if they’re educational and broadcasters want their young audience to learn British English from watching them. Ignoring the fact PPG isn’t even an educational show, the UK voice actors are acting with American accents anyway, so...what was even the point?

  3. Watching Bridge to Terabithia.

AKA: the film with the most misleading trailer in the history of misleading trailers.

I thought they said the opposite? Specifically that the past events in the comics were “inspired by” the games but are not supposed to be thought of as the same. I personally find that idea really cool. It’s like if Pre-SGW Archie Sonic had started at the 220’s or something, and you go in with the knowledge that events inspired by the games had already happened in the past and, in this instance, that’s totally accurate because a lot of the adaptations back then were incredibly loose.

Today, I learnt that Riverdale wasn’t the first Archie media to have a black Pop Tate.

What’s weird is this movie is supposedly set in the same universe as Archie’s Weird Mysteries (both were made by DiC and have mostly the same voice cast), where Pop was still white.

...it means they are a classic odd-couple in this adventurous team-up.
  7. This excerpt from Dogasu's Backpack does a good job of explaining how the Pokemon saying their own name concept is handled better in the Japanese version:

    Quote

One of the things fans generally accept about pokemon in this TV series is that they can only say their names due to some physical limitation that prevents them from being able to say anything else. Real-world dolphins are said to be super intelligent but can't produce human speech because they don't have the proper vocal organs necessary to produce the same sounds. Pokemon are kind of like that, right?

So let's look at Purin. In Japanese, its ability to say "pu" or "ri" or "puri" is a completely believable set of sounds for a magical cartoon balloon monster to be able to make, right?  They're easy, almost baby-ish noises. But now let's look at the English version. "Jigglypuff," as fine as a name as that is, has a lot of unique vowel and consonant combinations and it's difficult to imagine any wild creature being able to perform the lingual gymnastics required to say the name. We can accept that this little pink ball can make "ggl" sound but can't say something simple like "hello"? It can't sing real words? Really?!

all pokemon are in fact able to talk

they just refuse to talk to humans

  8. In the anime, when new Pokemon are discovered, are they just named after the sound they make?

But then, not every Pokemon says their own name. Otherwise the Charmander line would go Charmander > Charmeleon > Brrraaarrrghhggh

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH" is my favorite Grass-type Pokemon.

Bonus points for anyone who gets which Pokemon I'm talking about.

      Waveshocker Sigma

      IT'S VICTREEBEL! =D

But seriously, this thing isn't my favorite, but I DO love it for it's screams int he anime. lmao

Its weird since it does say Bell a couple times in a deeper voice when it first shows up in the anime.

  11. Are there certain preferences that people have been known to have that you just simply cannot fathom?

Like people who like their tea/coffee/whatever hot. Not warm, HOT.

Why are pickles a default ingredient on so many burgers? It seems like a lot of people ask for them off anyways. Put them on there by request, or put a separate pickle burger option on the menu or something. What I'm trying to say here is: fuck pickles.

Also (and this is the one that will likely start an actual world war someday), not a huge fan of thin crust pizza; although some are definitely better than others. I like my pizzas thick and bready, and the one we have at work is essentially a saltine cracker.

Milk going first in the bowl. Just...no

    4. NegaMetallix

      NegaMetallix

People who enjoy eating cold pizza, especially those who prefer it. I just... how?! How the heck can anyone look at a fresh hot pizza and immediately think "...Eh, I'll have it later" and just let it go cold?

@Speederino Man, I almost wanna give you a thumbs-up for the pickle thing. But then you mention the pizza thing and now I'm just conflicted...

  12. In Archie Sonic #180, the way the first story ends (Enerjak Reborn prelude) and the second (Rush Adventure adaptation) begins kind of makes it look as if Sonic and Tails set off in the Tornado to go fight Enerjak only to get caught in that storm and wind up in Blaze’s world on the way.

  13. How does the economy work in the Pokemon world?

Pokemon Centers don’t charge for healing Pokemon, meaning their funds either come from an NHS-like organization, or the Poke Marts that operate inside the centers from Gen V onward share their profits.

Pokemon trainers apparently make a living from battling (prize money and all that), meaning you’re shit out of luck if you’re not a good battler.

Not to mention there’s a Pokemon move that basically creates money out of thin air.

It doesn't. They don't even have banks.

  14. Sonic in Sonic’s Schoolhouse sounds like Sheldon Cooper on helium.

  15. Bart and Lisa are canonically blond according to this Simpsons ep I’m watching. Which doesn’t make sense because neither of their parents are.

    1. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

Could be blond recessive gene in the parents.

It can happen. My brother is a little blonde and neither of our parents are. But our grandfather (on mother's side) was.

When me and my siblings were younger, we had blonde hair, despite both parents being brunette. Our hair darkened eventually.

Do we actually know Marge's natural hair colour? Flashbacks have always shown it blue but an earlier episode claimed she dyes it that colour.
