  1. Why are CN UK still showing the Dove self-esteem promos with the Steven Universe characters when SU is virtually nonexistent on CN UK these days outside of the one repeat they show at 1AM?

Y'know I once remember a time when CN wasn't such garbage.  A time when the schedule left you almost spoiled for choice.  How times change...

I remember when I first had Cartoon Network in my home for the first time (early 2001). It only showed their current shows at times when kids were most likely to be watching (before and after school hours, all over the weekend, etc). Outside of those hours, pretty much anything went: old Hanna-Barbera shows from the early 90s (mostly the “kid” spinoffs like Tom & Jerry Kids, Pup Named Scooby-Doo), golden age cartoons other than Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry (Popeye, Droopy and Barney, to name a couple), which made those few occasions I was taken out of school for whatever reason a real novelty. And I haven’t gotten to Toonami yet! Good God, we had so much variety back then.

I remember the days of CNX as well.  God, those were the days...

  2. Are you going to check out Camp Koral are boycott it?

Boycott. I'm not supporting something made in spite for the Stephen.

I’ll probably check it out and see if it’s decent or not, likely a boycott after that though. If they make something good, in spite of Stephen’s wishes, and at least pull off something that honours him and his characters, I won’t be too pissed, even if I’m annoyed they ignored his wishes, but if it’s bad, then Nick can fuck straight off.

I'm not going to boycott it. I'm just not going to watch it because I'm 99% certain it's going to be terrible.

  3. Do you ever feel lousy when you post a status update and nobody responds to it? Like what you just said is stupid and nobody wants to dignify it with a response, or that you’re just being a nuisance?

Especially when you’re the kind of person who worries that nobody actually likes you, and you feel like it validates it?

  5. The only thing I remember about Batman Beyond is the fever dream opening.

Batman Beyond is a brilliant series and worth watching. At the very least, I'd recommend Return of the Joker, which is one of the best animated DC films to date.

  6. It’s fun noticing when stuff gets cut from daytime broadcasts of one of your favourite shows, especially when the cut is so sloppy.

  7. New character renders: Protagonists. Your rival, Paulo. Pasio’s resident professor, Professor Bellis. Pokemon Masters League organiser, Lear. Lear’s staff, Sawyer and Rachel. And some more returning trainers
  8. Just watched Spongebob’s Birthday Blowout. That was amazing. THAT’S how you do an anniversary episode for this show.

  9. It sounds like the normal theme but distorted.

  10. You know Manchester, now get ready for

  11. I spent ages trying to figure out what the hell was happening with Shadow’s outstretched hand there. Then I finally realised it’s actually Sonic’s hand and Shadow is holding him by the wrist.
  12. Holy crap, I’ve just discovered that Pop (the UK channel) has started showing Dragon Ball Super, and it’s the Funimation dub!

    1. Ernest the Panda

      Ernest the Panda

The reason this surprises me so much is because there’s no “censored” version of the Funi dub as far as I know, and Pop is very much a kids channel, and showing anything even remotely adult on kids channels in the UK is normally forbidden thanks to Ofcom rules (the very same rules that are stopping Cartoon Network UK from having Adult Swim).

    2. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Any idea if the show was edited or redubbed to reduce mature language (which I think is the extent of what Super has)? Funi might have been approached to fix some lines for broadcast on that kind of network.

I’ll take a look when the next episode comes on.

    4. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

      @Zaysho

It has been edited as there was a preexisting edited dub for Australia. If you go to a Dragon Ball Super on POP topic on Kanzenshuu, someone is currently listing all the changes along with video comparisons.

    5. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Response to my earlier reply since I can talk more about it now - I've seen a few episodes. For not having seen the first arc of Super for awhile, the edits weren't too bad. Some fights and such were cut down for time, but the post mentioned goes a lot more in-depth. From what I noticed -

      • Roshi's porn joke in the first episode is changed to only imply it was adult DVDs.
      • Hercule is used
      • There's a nasty Z-related cut that sticks out like a sore thumb (The flashback in Ep 2 where Vegeta punches Trunks has a bad cut that makes it obvious where the actual punch from Vegeta was censored).
      • A lot of King Kai's insults towards Goku was lost, with a lot of him calling Goku an idiot in Ep 5 being replaced with an exhausted "Goku..."
    6. Zaysho

      Zaysho

King Kai was in his right to call Goku an idiot though...

    7. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Don't get me wrong - there's still some of it in tact. I can't remember off the top of my head, but there's moments where he calls Goku a big dummy, among other names. There's also an "Oh Crap" in tact when King Kai flings off into a panic.

    8. Ernest the Panda

      Ernest the Panda

“Crap” is becoming a bit more accepted in kids media these days. See also: IDW Sonic issue 8.

      Hm, it aired in Australia?

That’s news to me... The only things I usually see are such things like Yu-Gi-Oh, or Pokemon.

I thought Australia had the BangZoom dub?

    11. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Nope, both Australia and Africa got the dub in the UK, according to some sources.

    12. Zaysho

      Zaysho

iirc the BangZoom dub was produced for Asian territories only. The UK and Australia have typically licensed the Funimation produced dubs these days, especially for home release.

This is a list of all the rounds of Pokemon Adventures’ X and Y chapter, showing off which rounds where published in which volumes in both the Japanese and US releases. The original Japanese collections are also the basis for just about every non-US version (being published in other parts of Asia, as well as certain parts of Europe, namely France, Germany, and Spain). The same approach is also currently being taken for the Sun and Moon chapter.

    tl;dr what the hell, Viz?!

  14. If Gamefreak were to decide to make a new core Pokemon title that returned to the old 2D sprite graphics to evoke even more nostalgia, which era would you most want it to return to?

I’d say Gen V’s. Their sprite graphics were the absolute best of all.

    1. Sean

      Sean

gen2 easily, I really like how animated those games' sprites were, especially compared to gen3 and 4 which had only two frames and tweening effects.

    2. Thigolf

      Thigolf

New sprites that really up the game.

If that's not an option, Gen 5 sprites for the enemy side and Gen 4 for the backsprite, though I'd love the latter to be more animated, too.

  15. Who would win at the Chinese box office:

-A brand-spanking new 4th instalment of one of the worlds most beloved CGI animated film franchises.

-An also pretty loved but less mainstream 2D animated movie from a decade-and-a-half ago.

    The answer may surprise you.

  16. Have you ever had something show up in a dream that’s a weird combination of two or more random elements you saw while you were awake?

Last night, before I went to sleep, I watched Blameitonjorge’s “15 worst Wii games” where one of the entries was an Alvin and the Chipmunks game. I also randomly looked up articles about this counterfeit Disneyland-like theme park that was open in China for a while.

You know what showed up in my dream after? Chinese bootleg Alvin and the Chipmunks toys.

      SenEDDtor Missile

I honestly thought you were going to say a bootleg haunted theme park with Alvin and the Chipmunk bootleg nightmare animatronics and toys tbh.

When I heard of "Alvin and the Chipmunks Wii Game", I immediately thought of this video:

  17. Can Shadow haz Chaos Emerald?

  18. I wanna take a moment to talk about Young Sheldon: the fact that so many people aren’t giving the show a chance because they hate TBBT makes me sad, because its relation to Big Bang couldn’t be anymore irrelevant to the shows quality.

Without the context of being a prequel series, it’s just a charming show about a child prodigy struggling to grow up in a religious home and state, with a style of comedy and writing that’s more comparable to sitcoms like Malcolm in the Middle. It has amusing characters (I love, love, LOVE Meema), and some touching moments, some episodes even touch upon some genuine issues (there’s one episode where Sheldon’s religious mother has a crisis of faith after the death of a young neighbour, and it’s handled in a very dignified and sympathetic way).

Also, Sheldon’s behaviour is overall just a hell of a lot more charming when it’s coming out of a child.

Seriously. Forget the Big Bang relation. It’s an underrated gem of a show.

I'm with you all the way on that front.  It's made my whole family laugh their pants off, despite its mother show barely etching out a chuckle from us.  And yes, Meema is MVP.

He’s used this kind of talk before but the fact that he’s talking to elected lawmakers crosses a line for me. Silencing opponents by slandering their heritage is not democratic. It’s some ultra nationalist BS.

This is the same line of shit he took against Obama to discredit him, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
