Hahaha! Bloody hell. It's pretty extreme compared to what you expect to see in children's TV.

  3. Why do people feel the need to put their finger up their nose when they have an itch up there?

Pressing your finger down on the side that itches and rubbing it works just as well.

  6. Apparently Blanche in Pokemon GO is gender-fluid?

People pointed out that Blanche was referred to as “they/them” in a recent publicity thing.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Not necessarily gender-fluid, rather just an intentional lack of gender association in the English-language version of Go. In other languages, Blache is referred to as female.

    2. Panda Claus

One still has to wonder why they’re avoiding gendered pronouns.

Seriously, even Peppa Pig at least commits to giving roll calls of her family like she’s in the army.

  9. Name a show that you respect but don’t necessarily like.

I’m really not all that into Steven Universe, but I’m still grateful for what it’s done for LGBT representation in kids media (even if it could do better in a couple of areas).

    1. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

      The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

I appreciate the show for being so different in a time where CN really was trying to off itself but the shit is just too weird for me.

    2. Sean

      Sean

Adventure Time. I liked it early on but I wasn't into how lore-heavy it became later on so I grew out of it.

    3. Harkofthewaa

      Harkofthewaa

Game of Thrones. Such a complex and intricate story ruined by people shagging each other every five minutes. I really want to get into that series but come on.

    4. Menace2Society

      Menace2Society

Probably Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Cool how we have a show focused on an agency rather a group of superheroes (or just one superhero that is) but I always thought the show was boring.

    5. Ferno

      Ferno

Loud House. Its great that a nicktoon besides Spongebob took off in the 2010s and I liked the few eps of it that I saw, but something about the aura the show gives off, or maybe just the fandom, keeps me mostly at bay for the most part

    6. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

Rick and Morty for me. It has it's moments both in terms of humor and emotion, but at the end of the day, I find that it relies heavily on the same kind of crude and edgy humor that you see in pretty much every adult show I've seen.

    7. Supah Berry

Now, I both respect and "like" Spongebob. I agree it's among Nickelodeon's best, and say its worthy of the honor of being one of the greatest cartoons of all.

      But I don't "worship" it.

Good lord, could I care less about those thousands of people proclaiming that Seasons 1-3 are the be-all-end-all masterpiece of human media and that all seasons afterwards belong in the 10th circle of hell and stuff. I see Spongebob, and most TV shows in general, as nothing more than something I could just watch and unwind. It was there to shut my brain and help cool it off after a long school day, but I wasn't eagerly look forward to it or anything.

I've heard a lot bout what bad stuff happened in seasons 5 - 9, do I hate them? Yeah, I feel such immorality should not belong to what's supposed to be shown to kids. But honestly, when I saw a "bad" episode, I simply thought it was boring and stupid. That's it. My only viewing of (what I think was) One Coarse Meal? "That was dumb." And forgot all about it the next day.

Yet people still go on and on how offended they are by a piece of fictional comic media and it soured it's characters. I for one have a much simpler option: moving on. If the series is good again, that's great. Too bad I don't watch TV anymore anyhow.

And no, Squidward is not the best and most relatable character in the show.

    8. Bowbowis

      Bowbowis

Not a TV show, but that basically sums up my feelings towards Mario (sans the RPGs). The games are obviously very well crafted but none of them have ever really made an impression on me. Like, I know Odyssey got rave reviews but all I think when playing it is"Yes. This is a video game. I am playing it. It very much exists."

    9. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Used to be Steven Universe and Adventure Time, but ever since rewatching them this year and have them become some of my favorite things, among other things, I'm convinced if I respect something but don't enjoy it, I'm just not watching/reading/playing/doing it at the right time in my life. Like I'm coming into them with a predisposition or a bias that I need to lose over time to just see it from a different perspective.

Makes me kinda happy, because there is a lot of stuff out there that I respect artistically right now, but don't enjoy altogether. Gives me something to look forward to in case I finally click with it later on down the road. Also makes me feel refreshed, like it reaffirms I'm always changing, and never stuck in one mindset despite getting older throughout the years.

  16. I’d be up for IDW Sonic using the two world concept if they made it a fully realised version of the Sonic X lore, and if they made the necessary retcons, maybe rearrange the order of certain games (have all the “earth-based” games happen closer together).

  17. Knuckles is the strongest character. He can knock Sonic out of his super state with one hit.

I remember being shocked when I learned that the actress who plays Sheldon's Mee-Maw is also the voice of Bo Peep. Took me a while to realize Bo Peep was dating Rex even though I knew Wallace Shawn played him.

    3. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

@PC the Hedgehog weirder still: Sheldon’s mom (mee-maw’s daughter) is played in TBBT by Laurie Metcalf (Andy’s mom)

  19. I think the most overtly political episode of a kids cartoon I’ve ever seen is that Powerpuff Girls episode that addressed radical feminism.

  20. Did you know the Angela Anaconda short at the beginning of the Digimon movie was later reworked into a full episode?

    1. BlueSpeedsterYT

      BlueSpeedsterYT

was later reworked into a WHAT?!

    2. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

Yep. All the Digimon references were removed (they’re now seeing something called “Mega Giants”, which has a very similar-sounding theme song), they added a first half where they’re trying to win tickets. Despite these changes, Angela still transforms into a big-haired, goggle wearing character in her fantasy.

  21. Remember when Archie!Sonic took to calling Shadow “faker” as an affectionate nickname for a while? I liked that. Wish it could be brought back (in a continuity where Shadow isn’t an antagonistic bellend to Sonic all the time)

  22. It’s actually kind of crazy that they went to the trouble of making SwSh compatible with the Pokeball Plus.

It’s like if they made the Gen V games compatible with the Pokewalker.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I'm going to guess that it was a straightforward process. Unlike the PokéWalker, the Pokéball Plus is designed to communicate with more than on piece of software and hardware as it's just a general bluetooth device. SwSh use the same engine/framework as LGP/E, so most of the work is already done. The PokéWalker was a bespoke piece of hardware with very limited technology. If it was going to take much effort... well, I don't think they would have done it for SwSh.

That said, I'm also fairly surprised that it works with SwSh. The functionality is really limited, but hey it's something. To be honest, I actually really enjoyed playing LGE with the Pokéball Plus. God knows why I couldn't just use the Pro Controller though.

  23. Yep, Angela Anaconda still holds up for me.

Dunno why the vast majority of people hate this show.

    3. Teoskaven

      Teoskaven

Yeah, i don't get how people can stomach the animation or the humor of that show.

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

The animation really is an acquired taste. I remember liking it as a child though, however much I may find it unsettling to look at now.

It did do some things plot wise that I'm not sure you'd really see in children's cartoon these days though. For one, it was an established fact that Angela's teacher was a nudist at weekends, and the kids even bore witness to it. And another, one of the classmates was established as a devout Catholic, and it wag played for laughs. Do you see such political themes being played for laughs in kids TV now? I'm genuinely asking, cause I've no idea.

    9. JezMM

      JezMM

Yeah not gonna lie, the whole "let's make puppets out of photos of people" or any kind of stop-motion using photos type thing is literally THE most hideous animation aesthetic I can think of. I can't stand it when TV show/movie credits sequences or adverts use it for even a short amount of time, let alone an entire 20 minute TV show.  It's just so uncomfortable and uncanny to look at.

Also the digimon movie thing (that was my first ever exposure to AA and even as a kid I was like "what the actual fuck am I looking at")

    10. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

Late reply but: @Blue Blood not those subjects particularly but, yeah, plenty.

    12. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

      Well, yes, “holy fuck” indeed.

I don’t recall if she shows up often or not. I’ve only seen her once so far.

    2. Milo

They were supposed to launch another show in recent years (a videogame-themed animated show called Glitch Techs, if I'm recalling the name correctly), but that seems to have fallen into development hell. There are even reports about production having stopped on the show some time ago. Nobody's really sure if it's going to come out.

And on that note, I'm pretty sure there's been quite a few pilots that's been pitched to Nick that they've posted, but they don't seem to enter production into entire shows (or even miniseries).

Not sure if it plays a part of it or not, but I think Nick merged both their live-action and animation departments into one studio pretty recently, which might be a factor for the lack of new shows as of late.
