  1. John Lewis Christmas ad is out

It’s cute and all, but the ending isn’t exactly one of those “hard-hitting right in the feels” twists like the earlier ones are.

He used his fire breath to light up a Christmas pudding. That’s nice. But he’s still a public nuisance who’s just gonna keep causing the same problems for the rest of eternity.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

      Yeah no that was crap

      Panda Claus

JL’s Christmas ads have overall just been falling short since all the competitors started doing their own.

  2. I’ve been staying optimistic about SwSh but holy fuck.

  3. Hot take: Pokemon should go back to being a sprite-based 2D series.

    1. Menace2Society

      Why yes, it should.

I much preferred the sprite work over the 3D models, honestly.

    2. Winter Spirit Ultima

      Winter Spirit Ultima

      I agree tbh

The last time a Pokemon looked lively was in the Unova region

More like it should have never left it to begin with.

But yeah, back to sprite based, PLEASE.

    4. QuantumEdge

Or they just put actual effort in the next 3D instalment.  Either way though is fine.

    5. Soniman

I'm good. Aggressively so. No thanks.

    6. Kuzu

Anyone else having a severe case of deja vu reading this...

    7. AdventChild

Need another Pokken and Mystery Dungeon game.

      Octopath Traveler style 2D please

  4. Sword and Shield are at least getting good reviews, in spite of everything.

    1. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

Well of course it is. it's a Pokemon game. It'll get good reviews regardless of quality.

    2. AlphaRuby

      Most of the spinoffs didn't

    3. Tornado

It's really not. There are some 9s and "BEST GAME EVER IN THE SERIES" reviews, but the metacritic (last I looked) was nearly as low as Let's Go.

    4. Kuzu

Can we give it a weak before we make that claim?

    5. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Don't be fooled! Game Freak rigged the reviews with bots like what Disney did for Last Jedi! These are not real review scores!

    6. Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

      Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

@Kuzu I don't think we should go ahead and call it "weak" just yet. Maybe we should give it a week.

  5. I wonder if Sword/Shield will still allow you to bring over Alolan forms?

  6. I never realised how old the movie thread actually was.

It was started in December 2013. Have you ever stopped to think about how insane that is?

When we learned this movie was being made, Sonic Lost World had just released, Archie Sonic was a mere three months into its post-SGW reboot, we were blissfully unaware that Sonic Boom was waiting just around the corner, and the idea of a game like Mania being made was just a crazy dream.

I'd not long left university, and my official graduation ceremony wouldn't happen for another month.

  7. Please god let Tyson do the IDW tie-in too.

  8. A70-ADFEF-BA70-40-F9-9562-F36-C5638-CBBD

Curious to see what’d look like.

Weird imo. They were right to separate them.

  9. Is anyone gonna comment on the fact the movie is apparently coming out a day early in Australia?

    1. Teoskaven

You see, Sonic is going so fast he's reaching that country before everyone else. Time zones 'n shit.

    2. Solister

Not impressive actually, this is being something pretty common recently. Last year, my country received Solo: A Star Wars story a day earlier.

      Not much sure why, though.

    3. Teoskaven

@Solister When it comes to foreign countries recieving copies of movies to project in cinemas, it's all about contract between the original production company and the local distribution one (especially if they don't have a counterpart, though it's becoming rare).
My country for example is now having an exclusive deal to have each new Star Wars movie one day before everyone else. Why? Because when Episode VII was about to be released, the original date was about 2-3 weeks after the american one, way off course and outside the Christmas season, all because my country feels the need to shit out failed comedies around that period and they were afraid Star Wars would have scooped away the younger demographic (wich thank fuck it did in the end). Fans were pissed about this and after some protests, Disney changed the contract for the early schedule that is being applied even now.

  10. Honest question: of all the changes to make to Sonic’s design, why are BLUE ARMS such a freaking deal-breaker to so many people?

It’s the least intrusive change you could possibly make to this character.

    1. Kittea

They're not distracting or anything so I guess those people are just purists?

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

It's such a strange strange hill for the film makers to die in. They've basically pulled everything about Sonic back to his normal game design, only proportioned and detailed differently (eg fur) to fit into the live action setting. All that's left are his blue arms and two separate eyes. Neither is better or worse than normal, hear different for the sake of being different. Why bother?

    3. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

Maybe to you. Not to me.

It doesn't look right or even good since it makes his arms blur and vanish into the design when they're specifically designed to stand out and much more to the point, it's wrong. If they were always blue, that'd be one thing, but they've literally never been that way officially and it's a mistake westerners in particular seem to always make since anytime someone who knows jackshit about Sonic tries to design him or sees a picture of him, they always color his arms wrong or go "Duh, why aren't his arms blue? I don't follow the series, but weren't they always like that??" and it's really irritating. They've been peach/light tan for 28 FUCKING YEARS!

...So yeah, it's just annoying to me, is all. I don't like it and no argument for them will ever change my mind.

    4. Diogenes

it's such a common mistake for off-model sonics that people are hypersensitive to noticing it

    5. Tornado

If they were always blue, that'd be one thing, but they've literally never been that way officially

They were literally that way officially in a game that came out just a few years ago. Seemed a bit like an overreaction when people took a big issue with it then too.

    6. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

@Blue Blood you’re not really trying to suggest the separated eyes are “change for the sake of change” are you?

    7. JezMM

To be honest I didn't even notice the arms are still blue so it's a big whatever to me lol.  Guess I'm still used to it from Boom.

    8. Kittea

@Waveshocker Sigma Artistic liberties maybe? The colour of Sonics arms whether blue or peach doesn't add or take away anything from the character. As for his peach arms being designed to stand out when in motion, I disagree. Unless it's a close up shot Sonic is usually shown as a, well, "blue blur" when in motion. You couldn't see his arms let alone other specifics for that matter.

    9. Thigolf

I'm so confused why people are annoyed by having his arms fur colored when like 80% of the franchise's characters have fur colored arms

    10. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

@Tornado By "Official" I mean "main series". Besides, you're not seriously counting Boom as a good example of it, are you? Cause we'll definitely have to agree to disagree on that.

@Thigolf Because those characters started off that way and looked good with it, so it wasn't a problem? Most of those characters also don't have the same kind of color patterns as he and Amy do, either, so expectations are different.

It's really not that confusing, but whatever. Ya'll like what you like.

    11. Tornado

All of those characters started with black eyes.

      Crow the BOOLET

Sonic with blue arms makes me think that he was manscaping in the past

  11. “I’m Sonic, a little ball of super energy, in an extremely handsome package”.

Just imagine original movie design Sonic saying that.

  12. The movie trailer made me smile.

Seriously, I feel a lot more enthusiastic about this movie now.

  13. One thing in particular I’d like from an Adventure remake is for the adventure fields to be expanded a little more.

    1. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

While I think the hub worlds in SA1 is a cute idea, especially since the NPCs react and change to the world around them, there's very little to do other than connect the stages together and get Chao eggs and hidden Emblems.

...Man I used those a lot to RP a bit. Eheheheh...

    2. JosepHenry

I wouldn't say expanded... I would like just more to do instead of just making it bigger.

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

You mean we get to have more side quests with Sonic Man and Pele the Beloved Dog?

    4. Polkadi~☆

A skill shop would be nice, with a vendor selling power-ups, extra lives, and stuff for Chao.

Also making the side missions part of the actual story mode instead of being a separate thing.

They're just some ways that the hub worlds can be fleshed out.

  14. Looking at how much lower budget the Pokemon movie dubs are now makes it all the harder to believe this franchise was once able to bag major stars like Donna Summer and Christina Aguilera to do their ending themes.

    1. Tornado

Please understand. The Pokemon series needs to make these cuts to be better in the future.

  15. Why does nobody know how to spell Gemerl?

  16. Since Disney+ are going to be doing revivals of old Disney Channel shows (there’s a Proud Family and even a Lizzie McGuire continuation coming up) what other shows would you want to see brought back?

I’ve always been interested in the idea of a Recess follow-up where we see the gang move on to junior high (if not as a series than at least as a TV special in the same vein as “Taking the Fifth Grade”).

  17. There’s apparently an earlier rendition of the Lavender Town theme hidden in Red and Green’s data, and...JFC

EDIT: it’s fake. Still creepy tho.

    1. TCB

      holy sheeeeeeit

    2. TCB

i... kinda like this way more than I thought

    3. Blacklightning

      Read the description. It's fake.

Speaking of dub themes: Ed Goldfarb will be continuing to unleash his suckage on the new series.

    1. Sean

Don't understand why they can't just keep the Japanese BGM since TPC themselves dubs the series now...

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Because American audiences won't like anything Japanese.

    3. Strickerx5

They're probably like "Well... we've done it this way for this long already. Why change it up now?" or something.

    4. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

@Strickerx5 except that they’d already changed it up before. When the current dubbers began they initially kept the music (necessary substitutions like Japanese insert songs aside). It wasn’t until XY that they started doing their own again.

    5. Sean

Everyone's Story kept the music in the dub (unlike I Choose You for... some reason) so I was hoping they learned their lesson but I guess not

  19. Do Hallmark not know what mistletoe actually is?

All of their Christmas movies have their characters kissing under a plant that looks nothing like it.

    1. Tara

What they should be doing is kissing under a robot's toe that actually shoots out like missile.  Hence the name, missile toe.

    2. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

That shit killed a Norse God! Why are they leaving such a dangerous object lying around like that?

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

      Budget cuts, man.

If you're gonna choose between buying the more glamorous and iconic Christmas tree as a centerpiece of your story, or a much smaller plant that only gets focus for a single scene, you bet your bum your getting the tree. Fake trees don't count.

    4. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

      @Supah Berry

Is mistletoe not naturally grown in America or something?

And even so, why not just get fake mistletoe?

    5. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

The size of the plant isn't the issue, it's the fact they keep using a sprig of red-berried, spiky-leafed Holly instead of white-berried, smooth-leafed Mistletoe.

    6. Tara

I read something to this effect a long time ago that I think what Americans often call mistletoe isn't really mistletoe at all, but few people have actually bothered to correct it because tradition.  So if that is to be believed, like all of life's problems, it comes down to us just being stupid.

    7. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

@Tara really? Because I’ve seen plenty of other American media that use the actual plant. It seems to just be Hallmark movies that are doing it.

    8. Tara

I think it comes down to the average person not being able to tell the difference usually.  If you showed the average American the actual white-berried mistletoe that Your Vest Friend mentioned they would say "Obviously!  Mistletoe!"  And if you showed them the red-berried variant, they'd also say "Obviously!  Mistletoe!"  Whatever just happens to look best/communicates its intent most clearly is what is typically used.

Why Hallmark specifically is mostly guilty of it, I'm not sure.  My only guess is because they're made to have comfortable and recognizable symbology, and the red-berried variant is what most Americans think of when they think of mistletoe.

  20. I forget, did Sonic Underground have any secondary villains who were not associated with Robotnik?

    1. Operationgamer17

Not that I remember. Neither did SatAM, I don’t think.

    2. Panda Claus

      Panda Claus

      SatAM had Naugus.

  21. Nesquik cereal dispenser

    1. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

      why though

  22. I believe that Gen 8 will be when we finally get the Sinnoh remake. It’s been an appropriate amount of time since ORAS came out, and the series has graphically advanced enough.
