  1. This whole deal with the Sword/Shield Pokedex has made me realise: Pokemon is suffering from franchise fatigue. Big time.

I personally wish they would slow down on pumping out the mainline games including the remakes. Wouldn't mind if they spend twice as long on them.

Come to think of it, I've been living in the belief Digimon was creating way less new monsters whenever some kind of "generation jump" happened.

But well, I grew fatigued with Pokémon a long time ago, like White was my last non-remake Pokémon game. It's like they're trying to invent all kinds of new ways to create even more stuff and monsters, I have heard Nintendo has this thing about making games with new concepts* because of their logic but still, it can be done well or wery badly.

      * If nothing else, I suppose Nintendo might have some sort of supervising over the concepts in Pokémon games, or something...

They're trying to spread the franchise out while simultaneously trying to find ways to put less work into certain parts of it.

It might be fatigue, but from where I'm standing it looks more like complacency.

Wouldn't mind more time between game though, at least for GF's sake so that they can actually deliver a full game with relative ease.

@Strickerx5 It’s like... both complacency and fatigue from my perspective.

GF hit the oversaturation wall with regards to the sheer amount of Pokémon that exist now. But instead of trying a different approach to backwards compatibility in Sword and Shield from other games, GF has just done away with it altogether a la Gen III, but without any thinking of ways to address complaints about it in game or any of the legitimately good reasons Gen III had for disallowing backwards compatibility.

But I’m not mad at the marketing people, because I think the reason for Sword and Shield’s choice to shunt off all but the new Pokémon  to Home (which is not of the caliber of Fire Red or Leaf Green, Gen III’s answer to people who wanted some aspects of the older generations to get represented in Gen III, nor does it seem intended to be that way) is because it’s the easy solution and GF assumes that it’ll sell anyway. No marketing person on the planet who intends on keeping their job is going to say “We’re just phoning it in whenever we face an obstacle because you’ll buy it anyway.”

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s as simple as “they just didn’t care at all about game quality”. It’s more to me like they’re tired of all these Pokémon everywhere being a burden and strain on resources, and have no motivation or help from leadership to address big issues in a creative and well-thought-out way.

And people say Mario is Nintendo's poster boy for fatigue. At least he knows when to back off at all.
