  1. Wonder why this wasn’t included on Sonic Jam.

  2. Dexter’s Lab’s art style post-Ego Trip is ugly and I fucking hate it.

  3. The timing of the encyclopedia’s release was pretty amazing, all things considered. If its scheduled release was like a month or two later than it was, it probably would’ve been held from release altogether. While one could look at the encyclopedia as becoming “outdated” less than a year later, I prefer to think of it from a different angle: the timing of its release basically made it a near-complete file on the original continuity as a whole, with it only being five (ten including Universe) issues out of date. ... Also, the encyclopedia came out on my birthday. That was awesome.
  4. What I found especially unfortunate about two of the delays/cancellations in particular is the fact that poor Tracey Yardley just barely missed out on getting his two Sonic Universe arcs collected. The main SU graphic novel series pegged out right before “Babylon Rising” got its turn, and “Pirate Plunder Panic” was set to open the planned “Sonic Universe Sagas” series before the whole thing went down with the ship.
  5. Dexter’s a cookie.

The other week I had a moment like this. I was super stressed out by someone so I picked up a chocolate cake and said "My diet is ruined! I hope your happy!" Fairy Godmother for the win.

  7. How is it nobody has mentioned the most obvious one of all?
  8. My ability to separate the art from the artist has been getting tested a hell of a lot in recent weeks.

Most recently, going back and rewatching the Sarah Jane Adventures, not realising just how many of my favourite episodes were written by Gareth Roberts.

      Me too.

I've just had to give up on television all together and will no longer watch any dubbed anime. I'm so tired of this stupid world and escapism is being infected by arseholes of the highest order. I'm so tired of it...

Sometimes you have to realise that you have to chill out before you hate everything by association with something you disagree with.

      PC the Hedgehog

Everyone who creates anything, whether TV, the printed page, music, whatever, has traits or opinions that we disagree with or downright despise. Everyone. I mean, I guess to a degree I can understand why a media consumer's values would make them want to stop enjoying certain things one is associated with, but that seems like a pretty miserable way to live.

  11. Unleashed HD: Werehog levels were hella long.

Seriously who the hell was in charge of level distribution on SD Unleashed?

The mandatory stages of each continent consisted of 1 daytime stage and like 5 or 6 nighttime stages.

    2. Sean

      Sean

The weird part was how there were occasionally (not often) unique layouts for daytime Sonic levels in the extra missions, so they could have easily repurposed some of them as "act 2s" for Sonic

  15. You mind putting your reviews in spoiler tags in future? It’s just that the constant walls of text make it a bitch to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Always wondered what the deal was with this was. I’m pretty sure she’s not even drawn by Art Mawhinney here. I wanna say Spaz drew this, but she has a really anime-looking appearance that Spaz wouldn’t even adopt for his style until just post-SA1. Who even designed Mina for that matter? I know Karl Bollers created her, but did he only come up with the character, or did he have a hand in her design too? Maybe Spaz designed her, and when Mina was introduced he decided “hey this one throwaway character design from back then would work for her. But then why would Spaz even be brought in to draw this one throwaway character to begin with?

      Blue Blood

How much of what's there isn't Sonic though?  Cause all I'm seeing is Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Mania Plus, Sonic Mania Plus & Sonic Forces double pack and Mega Drive Classics (featuring 4 Sonic games). Just curious.

    3. Thigolf

      Thigolf

I guess SMB BB is there somewhere, judging by the banner.

...how many retail releases did SEGA even have in 2019?

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Not many, from what Wikipedia is telling me at least. The only other ones that they had were Football Manager (yay...) and Sakura Wars (2019 for Japan, 2020 for the rest of the world). So yeah, there's really very little that not Sonic. And heck, if you want to be really pedantic about it, Sonic was added into Banana Blitz and is being used as a selling point. lol

I think there may have been additional digital releases. Not sure though.

  17. Per chance, would anybody on this forum happen to have obtained the latest title in the “Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games” video game series? What are your current feelings in relation to its quality? I, myself, am currently progressing through the game in preparation for an upcoming review for The Sonic Stadium.

  18. Going back to the main Pokemon anime and listening to its dub cast after prolonged exposure to the English VAs in Pokemon Masters is surreal, to say the least.

they should just give Pokemon to Funimation or Viz already tbh

      shdowhunt60

I actually legit miss the original 4kids cast. I don't watch Pokemon all that much as an adult, but every time I see a clip from whatever series is running now, it's like... The script is dry, and the voice work is lifeless.

Say what you will about Jelly donuts, there was at least conviction and personality to the original 4kids dubbing. I know a lot of people hate 4kids, and for good reason, but Pokemon at least for me has been the exception to the poor quality of the company's dubbing efforts.

Steamed Hams. I love all of the different kinds of styles people used for them. Personal favourites being Steamed Bebop (Cowboy Bebop) and Steamed Hams Inc.

      too many to count :c

I don't know if it really counts as a "meme" but would music mashups (Space Jam mashups in particular) count? If so, definitely that one I'd favor the most.

That aside, I also really loved the whole "MLG" stint that took place during the middle of this gen. The skeleton memes from tumblr (esp. the "skeleton war") I also enjoyed too.

It's also arguably a subgenre of YouTube Poop than an independent meme, but I also loved all of those various "*movie* but ________" that came out when a certain movie got into meme status, like the aforementioned Shrek, Bee Movie, and The Emoji Movie.

Stupid nonsense like this just has me rolling:

Honestly, this is just kind of funny to me nowadays, because I always thought it was based on DBZ rules, since that's what super forms were originally based on (SSJ).

It was rather known that despite being saiyans in GT, neither Pan or Bra was allowed to go SSJ, for whatever reason. I can't remember what it was exactly. Then years later, Toriyama finally introduced female Super Saiyans with both Caulifia and Kale, and in Super, Pan is able to fly around and pack a punch as a toddler, implying she might be able to achieve it later down the line.

  23. While I would indeed consider the Archie reboot a high-point, I would also, simultaneously, consider the actual end of the old continuity a low point. The plot threads the original continuity had going on at the time were some of the most interesting the series had had; King Naugus, Geoffrey St. John finally becoming an interesting character, the break-up of the Freedom Fighters, and the state of Silver’s future. Not to mention all the new details revealed in the official encyclopedia that were ripe for exploration. I remember being among the Archie fandom this time seven years ago: just before Christmas, the second chapter of the long-anticipated “Endangered Species” arc had just come out. After the troubling amount of last-minute dialogue edits in part 1, part 2 saw the arc completely hijacked by legal hassles that very suddenly took the story in a completely different direction. The echidnas, a fan-favourite of the Archie community, were unceremoniously dumped into another dimension off-screen, and the fans waited out the remaining two chapters hoping that *maybe* they’d come back (spoiler: they didn’t), making for a very somber end to one of the comics most noteworthy concepts. The Sonic Universe arc happening concurrently, “Chaotix Quest”, faired a little better at least. Last-minute Rob’O expy notwithstanding. After that, every lingering plot thread was erased from existence, with no closure. The fandom shift that came about was pretty damn huge too. Many who were attached to the old canon and couldn’t deal with the change jumped ship, with new fans coming in to take their place. Sure, both the comic and the fandom recovered in the end, but it was one hell of a bumpy ride.
  24. 2020 seems an odd year to launch a “campaign” for Sonic, with the 30th anniversary being a year later.

      TheOcelot

I'm thinking 2020 will be all about the build-up/hyping up the 30th.

I just want another big game in a non-anniversary year again tbh. Another SA1, Heroes or Unleashed basically

  25. I’m just now realising the second Paddington movie has a pretty big plothole

He’s sent to prison because they think he stole the pop-up book, even though he doesn’t even have the book with him when he’s caught.

    1. Milo

      Milo

I'm not gonna say I'm an expert of any country's justice system, but I would argue that both in fiction and in real life, there are situations where people have been convicted/sentenced for a crime without actually having proven to committed said crime in the first place. That's the goal/motivation for the Brown family in the story, to find evidence of Paddington's innocence and use it have the conviction overturned.

The movie also shows how despite there being no evidence that directs Paddington to the crime, Hugh Grant's character (the actor who actually did steal the book) manages to convince the court that Paddington is guilty anyway through a false witness testimony. This isn't helped that the guy who Paddington accidentally gave a poor haircut earlier in the film turned out to be the judge --or one of the jurors, IIRC-- preceding the case, so he already had a grudge going in.
