PC the Hedgehog got a reaction from Syntax Speedway in Balan Wonderworld (Yuji Naka + Square Enix)
Despite Naka and Oshima's many missteps as game creators, it'd be in REALLY bad taste for Sonic's social media to mock their solo efforts considering the franchise likely wouldn't even exist without them.
I actually just finished the novel last night, and it's MUCH better than the game. I'll post my thoughts later when I have time, but I'd highly recommend it.

So yeah, the Balan Wonderworld novel. Surprisingly good stuff.
For starters, it explains most things the game either leaves out or leaves vague. Who is Balan? Who is Lance? What is their connection (and boy, was I surprised when the big reveal happened)? What is Wonderworld? Why are all the people there? What's with those drops and Tim things? The only thing it really doesn't explain is all the dancing, which, thankfully, the book has none of.
It also builds up the characters a lot more. The little cutscenes in the game were cute and all, but the book allows their stories to breathe a bit more. We learn why they ended up in Wonderworld, what the pieces of their hearts symbolize, and why the worlds they've created are the way they are. Plus, everyone actually interacts with everyone else. Certain characters develop friendships with each other. Some even have an incredibly surprising connection that isn't revealed until the very end of the book. We even get to see Leo's growth and development as a character as the story goes along, meeting the others and developing deeper connections with some of them. He even has his own "stage" in Wonderworld.
Story-wise, it can be kind of by-the-numbers. The first third of the book has Leo entering Wonderworld and meeting all 12 characters, as well as checking out the happy, carefree worlds they've created for themselves. Interestingly, Lance is the one who guides him along, giving the impression that he's the guiding light while visions of Balan appear intermittently, causing everyone to express concern (which is kind of unwarranted, as there's no indication that he's malicious at all). By the middle, Balan makes himself known and Lance reveals himself as the "villain", allowing everyone except Leo to become corrupted and leading to the majority of the game's story of Leo going around saving everyone's hearts and whatnot, now with Balan's help. The last section of the book is by far the most interesting, a pretty lengthy epilogue where all the characters get their lives back on track and all even end up meeting each other despite being from different countries, speaking different languages, and in some instances, living in entirely different time periods(!) Two of the characters even get married! The only two characters who don't get confirmed happy endings are Lance and, surprisingly, Balan himself, though I won't spoil why.
Pretty much the only downside of the book to me is how they treat Emma. Yeah, she's in here too, helping out Balan while everyone else is working with Lance. She doesn't really do a whole lot, and her story is actually even less developed than it was in the game.
All in all, while the book certainly had its flaws, it also contained all the magic than the game sorely lacked. It really helped me to appreciate what Naka and crew were trying to do with this new world...and made me sad at how badly the game itself botched its potential. I would highly recommend anyone remotely curious about the world of Balan Wonderworld to save $60 and pick up the book instead.

Colors was decent at best and far from deserving of a remastered edition, IMHO. If this is in fact real, I'm very indifferent toward the news.
Unless they're giving us this in place of a proper NEW game to placate us for Sonic's 30th anniversary, in which case I'm annoyed by the news.

As someone who doesn't like Colors for it being the start of the series' direction I don't personally like, and more specifically for an English script I don't like... it'll be pretty disappointing if a remaster of Smith's first Sonic game replaces him. Wouldn't really be fair to the new Sonic actor to have to replace someone else's work and I think it'd suck for Smith's work to be erased in that fashion.

Idk guys, if I turn my brain off and just go in for some mindless fun and spectacle, I can enjoy Forces for what it is. I can't remotely say the same for Balan's demo. Forces, and even Lost World doesn't actively make me fall asleep, or feel frustrated by the simplest of movements.

No, it's not. No, it never was advertised as advertised as being a spiritual successor to (/rip-off of) NiGHTS. The debut trailer showed of a platformer with character designs evocative of NiGHTS. Not for a second did it look like it would resemble NiGHTS gameplay at all. If you got that impression, that's on you because it's not what was advertised. We were presented with an original concept and that's what we got.

PC the Hedgehog reacted to The KKM in Balan Wonderworld (Yuji Naka + Square Enix)
The epilectic effect is in every possible indication a glitch. Everyone's latched to one gameplay video that shows it, and ignores the multiple other gameplay videos that show the same attack without the strobing effect happening.

Be careful to not just willingly fall for anything negative said about the game in order to indulge in "haha fun to complain about this game". The game's got enough actual issues on its own.

    Mmm, Zeti spaghetti...
The 30th anniversary story sounds fun. Sort of a new take on the super popular Mega Drive trilogy duology that Archie did.
And congrats, @The KKM! And a big yay also to Spaz finally making his way to IDW. Felt weird having a new Sonic comic without the most prolific artist in the Archie comic's history involved.

At a guess, the Hardcover also includes all the variant covers, and sketches and so on, accounting for the extra 12 pages.

Hi there!  I remix video game music and recently started a channel.  I don't know how often I'll do Sonic music so I don't know if I'll commit to this thread as a regular thing for updates, but wanted to share one that I've uploaded with you all!

Adventure. There's certainly room for improvement, but I feel it's the closest to capturing the classic Sonic gameplay in 3D.
Personally, my ideal playstyle would be Adventure gameplay with occasional sections that utilized boost gameplay, like how Sonic 06 had certain "speed" sections. Best of both worlds, IMO.

PC the Hedgehog got a reaction from Angyu in Sonic's Television Trip To The Past and Back (1993-????)
AoStH is every bit as funny as it was in the early 90s. I still laugh out loud every time I watch an episode. Obviously it was pretty goofy, but it still had some pretty decent stories, adventure, and heart to go along with it. And Scratch and Grounder will always be the best Robotnik henchmen.
They really took a lot of liberties with the Sonic license with SatAM, but it's still a high quality show. Serialized storytelling was really rare in the early 90s, and I think this show kind of kicked off my love for ongoing stories in TV shows.
It makes me happy to see that the hate for Sonic Underground has lessened in recent years. They took the fanficcy SatAM and made it even MORE fanficcy by giving Sonic siblings, something that would be unthinkable with present Sega mandates. It doesn't quite have the same heart that SatAM did, but it was still action-packed and had very, very snappy dialogue, probably the best of the DiC trilogy in that regard. And let's face it, cheesy as they are, the vocal songs were and still are insanely catchy.
Sonic X could have been amazing. The original trailer made it look amazing, but they had to go the whole "cartoon character appears in the real world route" that denied us the fun of exploring Sonic's colorful world. It was also arguably the first time the characters' personalities started to become flanderized, something that carried over into the games and made the cast almost insufferable for several years to follow. The mediocre 4Kids dub didn't do the show any favors either.
Sonic Boom was brilliant. Yeah, it was a comedy more than anything, but I'd go so far as to say it was one of the smartest-written cartoons of the 2010s. Most of the jokes gave me a classic Spongebob vibe, which is about the highest compliment one can pay a comedy cartoon. Anyone who says that the show was nothing but meta humor and fourth wall breaking jokes is objectively wrong; it DID have plenty of those, but balanced it well with humor of all sorts.
