  1. Okay, well I just got back from my local GaneStop playing the Crash N. Sane demo and here are my thoughts.

Keep in mind these are just my opinions. I played the ORIGINAL Crash 1 and 2 it's fresh in my mind for comparison as well.

    N. Sane Crash 1 is the new definitive version of Crash 1 for me. Hands down, bar none. The physics feel like Crash 1 but they turned off his weird inertia shit so he doesn't feel as much like a fucking runaway tractor trailer. So the box bridges and stuff are both "easier" and "harder". They feel like a good medium. The Brio bonus is a good example. Never once was the fucking up on my part anything but my fault.

Crash 1 has been made to feel more like Crash 2, NOT the other way around like SomeCallMeJohnny and Caddicarus and people were saying. The Crash 1 controls feel JUST as correct on analog as they do on D-Pad. Better, even. D-Pad is great for 'precision' though.

Crash 2 N. Sane feels lighter than Crash 1 N.Sane. They are similar, but in no way do they feel exactly the same as the aforementioned YouTubers expressed. I question when the last time they actually played the original games was. For me it was a week ago so I have a great frame of reference. There's a clear difference. Crash is faster and snappier to control in N.Sane 2 than in N.Sane 1. The slide jump is spot on and feels great. Even the spin slide jump technique popular for skips in speedruns is in the game and does jump higher and farther than a regular slide jump -- though that's where the biggest difference lies -- it's not QUITE as high and the window to make it happen (the timing of the button presses) is slightly narrowed to make abusing it harder, but it's perfectly usable as an actual move the same way it is in Crash 2.

It FEELS like Crash 2 with some modernization. Crash 1 and 2 definitely have "feelable" differences though.

The graphics in person are not done justice by trailers and captures. The saturation and color is phenomenally done. The HUD and menus are fantastic and animated. The startup screen and stuff is simple but good.

The difficulty is retained, especially in Crash 1. It has not been softened up at all, but the controls are BETTER so you can get used to it a bit quicker and if you have played Crash before, when you pick this up you feel right at home, just... better. There's no real adjustment period. Crash 1 feels like so much better than OG Crash 1. It feels more like you're skilled and chaining the jumps and obstacles together in a much more satisfying manner than OG Crash 1 where you feel like you're getting lucky sometimes.

Overall, this is the best Crash since the originals. Like the way it plays, looks, sounds. It's top shelf shit. Because it IS the originals, just... better. I keep saying that, but in terms of the little things, ESPECIALLY Crash 1 vastly surpasses the OG Crash 1.

    1. MightyRay

That's great to hear! I always thought the controls in 1 could do with some fixing up. I hope they polished up the controls for Hog Wild and hog other levels. Because damn they were annoying to play.

    2. Jango

Post this on the official thread my boy!

    3. TheOcelot

It's very pleasing to hear Crash 1's controls have been tweaked.

      Good stuff.

  2. Y'know I'm gonna be real honest. I've lately seen criticism regarding the art direction of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and I'm gonna give my own thoughts on the subject matter.

I for one welcome constructive criticisms towards VV and the N. Sane Trilogy. VV has shown that they listen (Hang Eight is far more saturated than previous builds, the PAX build of N. Sanity Beach features far dirtier ruins, etc), so it's important for us to make our valid criticisms known so that we can end up with the best remasters possible.

My only qualm comes when this results in people calling the game outright bad or simply shunning it completely because of its looks. This is not constructive and only serves to hurt the game and our community as a whole. Don't get me wrong, there ARE a few questionable artistic choices they got going on like the color palettes and such but if THAT's stopping you from playing these, then I just don't see it really. I mean look, it's not a perfect 1:1 recreation of the originals and you're not gonna get the exact same results they did years back. If that's the case, then you're better off just playing the originals on an emulator. As fans, we have a responsibility to be supportive and vocal with our criticisms and to help VV integrate these into the N. Sane Trilogy. Insofar, they've done an amazing job, and it can only get better.

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as arrogant but the complaints I've seen so far are literally art school jargon.

    1. CrashRatchetFan

I mean, would you rather have something completely different like Crash of the Titans or something that's a little close to home?

    2. Dejimon11

Yeah pretty much I just feels if everybody is going out of their way to nitpick the hell out of this for one reason or another. I think the game looks great my only problem is Crash's face can look a little bit off and I do wish that the game was a little bit more vibrant than saturated but besides that it's not ruining my experience or anything like that

    3. CrashRatchetFan

Crash's design can look wonky at times since it's essentially a higher poly version of the PS1 model but that's not stopping me from playing these.

I mean, it's not like VV is blissfully unaware of criticism because they listened to feedback (hence the new Wumpa SFX) and want these to succeed.

Just don't be a douche and call the game shit because you don't like little things - take that energy and use it to push valid complaints so we can improve the game instead of whining about it and taking a dump on their efforts because they're clearly trying.

    4. Dejimon11

That literally could be said for anything. Not just Crash but with a whole bunch of games.

    5. CrashRatchetFan

Yea but in this case, they're *actually listening* to criticism. I've seen improvements over the last build we saw at PSX so they're hearing us out.

They themselves stated that they listen to Reddit and even GAF trying to make this the perfect experience. I don't think I ever seen a developer come out and say that to my recollection.

  3. You know it just occurred to me...

With the possibility of CTR getting a remake, I WONDER if they'll add more characters to race now that the PS4 has enough horsepower to accomplish such a thing. Characters like Brio, Koala Kong or even Rilla Roo :V

Hell, maybe even more tracks. That'd be fun AND online multiplayer is a must.

    1. KHCast

Classic Spyro like nitro kart would be awesome

    2. MightyRay

And maybe Twana or the umbrella girls?

  4. Is it certain that Sony will have their annual PlayStation Experience event this December? I find it pretty odd that they haven't even mentioned it yet. Last year's was announced in August.

  5. Sketch of Cortex I did. His design in Skylanders is frigging awesome and it gets me more excited day by day to play it!

    1. Failinhearts

      That looks awesome!

  7. Anybody wanna give me a rundown as to why Mighty No. 9 looks so terrible? Like, what happened? Wasn't it originally a 2D sidescroller like the Mega Man?

    1. Hyp3hat

I think it's the fact that it's been constantly delayed whilst still looking like, for all intents and purposes, a Chinese bootleg rip off of Mega Man. The set up, the character names, the gameplay is not like Mega Man, it is Mega Man. I'm amazed Capcom haven't sued.

Like, I get why Inafune made it, but 'I can only make one game and Capcom won't let me make it anymore' isn't exactly the most exciting thing ever and if Mighty No 9 is just Mega Man, the fact it looks so dull (with its middling reviews so far) is hardly going to inspire Capcom to revive it.

  8. Well @Nepenthe, ready to eat that crow? :V

    1. Nepenthe

What crow? A remake isn't a new fucking game.

    2. Jango

A remastered isn't. I think a remake qualifies as a new game yes sire.

    3. Tara

    4. Nepenthe

      It really doesn't.

    5. Ryannumber1gamer

Denial is the first step to acceptance Nep.

    6. KHCast

Technically a remake is. FF7R is a remake, and that looks pretty fucking new. :v

    7. Jango

      From the ground up. :V

    8. Nepenthe

It's the same game with new assets. I wanted a new game with new assets.

Also, check your profiles Crash fans. =P

    9. Tara

But seriously, I actually agree with Nepenthe here.  A remake/remaster isn't enough to get me excited as it doesn't really necessitate a rekindling of the series.  Unless it brings something genuinely new and amazing to the table, like the Final Fantasy VII remake, then I'm not impressed.

But ban Nepenthe anyway just out of spite.

    10. KHCast

Well we don't know if it will bring anything new do we? Nothing from the game was shown, and from what was said, seems like they flat out mean ground up new assets kinda remake

  9. That guy who made that awful Sonic video from a while ago made one about Crash and its god awful.

    Not worth the look IMO.

    1. Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

      Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

let me guess, is it "sonic was never good" shit again?

    2. Dejimon11

Ya gotta be specific about who you're talking about.

    3. CrashRatchetFan

Say what you may about ME, but between that awful Sonic video he's famous for, and the pretentious title of this video -- AND this choice quote:

"...I'd rather have the bandicoot's bones stay buried."

Yea, it's just not worth the time.

    4. Gregzilla

      Good Blood, for those wondering.

And I don't think it's god awful by any means, it's an interesting video.  However, like his Sonic video, there's some stuff I don't agree with.

I think his Sonic video was an interesting watch too, even if I didn't like his gameplay ideas or his Sonic redesign.  Disagreeing doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad watch.

    5. Dejimon11

Oh I saw that video a couple days ago I liked it. I didn't agree with him but I understood where he was coming from.

    6. Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

      Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

give him this description on his channel if you have an youtube account.

because its an proper article on how sonictards like him act.

wait, its that shitty indie/2d steam greenlite design video?

fucking bait him with the wikipedia article i mentioned, NOW

    7. CrashRatchetFan

I watched the video because I wanted to see what he thought about Crash from a design standpoint. Ended up being even more vague than I was expecting. It's subjective guesswork.

I'm critical of Twinsanity for how overrated it is but the way he writes it off as "silly and full of slapstick" is just plain moronic. The silliness did very well for me, so... then what?
And isn't it strange that he loved the 'insanity' in the classic trilogy, but then dismisses 'silliness' as something negative in Twinsanity? It's a cartoony video game, not some Avant Garde bullcrap. There's some actual effort in the game that wasn't seen prior. Same said for Radical's intentions.

    8. FriendBot

      Yeah, dude no.

Just because a lot of us disagree with the stuff he said in that Sonic redesign video, doesn't mean any of us are going to attack him because of it. Get over it.

    9. CrashRatchetFan

@sansy Who said anything about "attacking?" I'm just giving my thoughts on the subject.

    10. Jango

Why? "...I'd rather have the bandicoot's bones stay buried." > I don't remember this part of the video, anyways, I found it interesting. So was his Sonic video o.O Guess I'm more open minded? Sure I don't agree with everything, but I wouldn't call it awful.

    11. Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

      Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang

      @sansy i was being half-sarcastic,

    12. FriendBot

I'm not talking to you Crash, I'm talking to @Beautiful Duwang-Chewchang.

  10. Just came back from seeing The Angry Birds Movie.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well done it is! There's a bit of pacing issues but it doesn't ruin the film. Animation and the art style are kickass too.

Definitely worth it and I'm not even a fan of the games. Fills the void that the Ratchet film left in me.

  11. Alright, so far this Crash print is looking nice. I like how well the tiki totem statue turned out:

    1. Jango

      looking awesome! u made this?

    2. CrashRatchetFan

      @Jango Yeah, Photoshop.

  12. Sketch of Crash for a potential print I'm gonna try to do for the 20th anniversary by September. I was inspired by Tyson Hesse's art mostly:

  13. Any Photoshop experts out there? Need some help.

So I wanna try to add a glowy gradient to one of my drawings which has some fire and ember effects but I have ZERO idea how to go about adding gradients. Anyone know how?

  14. Spyro sketch that mostly focused on values: D14890B4-5A31-4C23-9912-DE27AAD4C7F5_zps

    1. Person

Brilliant, love your style. Very reminiscent of Zembillas.

  15. Sketched Tom & Jerry

  16. I forgot how much I hated Jak 2

  17. So wait, will the closing of Disney Interactive affect KH3 by any means? It would suck if it did.

    1. Klinsy

Since it's developed by Square Enix and not by any of Disney's game companies they own themselves, it should be alright.

    2. Marcello

I wouldn't think so. They're just stopping internal development. Stuff like Kingdom Hearts or Star Wars should be fine.

    3. KHCast

Highly doubtful. Square is in charge of the development. With Disney helping with things like some of the financial and story areas.

  18. Uncharted 4's becoming more like...

    1. KHCast

  19. So... in Uncharted 4 there's a playable level from Crash Bandicoot believe it or not:

But they said this last year:

Okay, now they're not even being subtle.

    1. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

    2. CrashRatchetFan

They would absolutely need ownership or permission from Activision to do that. Something MUST be going down behind closed doors.

  20. Unpopular Opinion: I never grew up with Tiny Toons nor Animaniacs but the more I look at them now, the more I feel they have aged badly and come off as kind of obnoxious (par maybe some of the Pinky and the Brain segments).

    1. Marcello

You're wrong and I hate you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. MightyRay

Same for most part. Never really cared for Tiny Toons. The animaniacs TV movie wasn't too bad though.

    3. Haalyle

Same here, except I never got around to watching them.

    4. Indigo Rush
    5. CrashRatchetFan

Hear me out, I NEVER grew up with the shows so I hold no nostalgic value to them. But seeing them now, they both just come off as completely dated (doesn't help for the fact that they shove in a Clinton joke every second) and annoying. The more they tried to recreate what the original Looney Tunes did so well the more they fell flat.

  21. What's the best size in inches and/or pixels to work in when doing a print? I'm thinking about doing one over the summer for something special.

    Could use some feedback.

    1. FaultyWindmill

For print you usually want 300 DPI.

  22. Traffic court has got to be one of the most pointless things ever conceived.

  23. Sony Latin America tweeted about Crash Bandicoot earlier today:

It's for Throwback Thursday (TBT) but I find it weird that they decided to redo the old bazooka render:

  24. Hooray! Finally got Ratchet in the mail!

...but I can't play it anytime soon now with college and schoolwork at an all-time high...

    1. FaultyWindmill

On the bright side, you've got a great motivator now!

  25. I preordered Ratchet PS4 last year in July and I probably won't be able to play it until May because college has taken control of my life.
