  1. I still can't wrap my head around Blue Cat Blues, the weird ass episode for Tom and Jerry where they both supposedly suicide.

Like god, it actually is morally depressing to watch it. It's so bleak and sad, and to see Tom lose everything he worked so hard for while Jerry just hilariously lost everything like *bang* is weird. It's hard to watch Tom get depressed in that episode and do all sorts of things to try to win the love of his life, but to see Jerry find out he got cheated on that instantly was actually kinda nonsensical, if stupid.

    Ugh

I just watched the episode...wow. There is so much more to life than finding a romantic relationship. And if the person you care for does not feel the same way, that person is not worth perusing. What a dark and grotesque episode.

Suicide was a stock joke in those days, which seems to have persisted until at least the early sixties.

Like, one episode of a cartoon (aimed at children and not adults like Tom and Jerry was, natch) has a guy repeatedly trying to commit suicide after his crush rejects him and the protagonist has to foil those attempts, and the episode punchline is that another girl comes along and takes interest in him, which leave the initial crush suicidal and the protagonist making sure that they don't get involved again.

      Like, fucking hell man.
