SuperBrandon got a reaction from ProfGawhite678 in Who would you guys would want to see your favorite character redesigned in Sonic Boom
I've got a idea how Shadow could look like perhaps with glasses and a jacket. He'd look pretty cool. As for Silver, Blaze and Rouge I have no idea. Maybe for Rouge, perhaps a suit . Omega and Metal Sonic are fine as they are. Would be interested how Cream and the Chaotix are redisigned. I would like to see Marine ( yeah I know it's unlikely) and also Flickies, Chao and Vanilla.
SuperBrandon reacted to FriendBot in Popular and unpopular Sonic opinions you agree and disagree with!
I think this one is kind of popular: Sonic Rush Adventure is the best Sonic game Dimps has ever made and it does everything better from Rush.
I can not express how much fun I had with this game, from the fun and unique stages and boss fights from the kick-ass soundtrack to a story that I consider one of the best in the series. I have seen people saying Rush is one of their favorite games, I don't really see how Rush is better than Rush Adventure but that's just me. Playing the minigames with the ships were pretty fun, getting the Chaos Emeralds were interesting as well, from the 16 hidden islands to 60 missions, this game has much more replay value than Rush could ever hope for.
SuperBrandon reacted to Cortez in I enjoy reading conversations about games more than I do playing them.
Feat. Long ass thread title.
Hi, SSMB, it's been a while, how y'all doing?
Fuck though, what an awkward realisation this is. After discovering GAF about 6 months ago I've noticed that I spend all day every day reading countless threads on people talking about games I have no interest in or buying or even playing. It was the same thing here back when I was an active member. Other than the next Mario, Pokemon or Zelda I probably won't even consider buying any of the games we all spend hours talking about and dissecting unless they really draw me in somehow (dat Mirror's Edge) but I just love reading the conversations we all have about them.
My little brother is going through the same phase I did when I was 11 and buying every game he has even the slightest interest in, back then I would get so into every impulse buy and some of them became my favourite games of all time but nowadays I just have no interest in blowing a load of money on something I might not even be that bothered about.
Is that weird? Surely I'm not the only one who does this?
SuperBrandon reacted to Indigo Rush in Sonic and adventure 1 and 2 total remake?
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 HD
Just going purely on the basic concept and not what you're proposing
If it's like what Nintendo did to Wind Waker HD? With a massive visual and technical overhaul, control and layout fixes and removal of tedious sections? A more advanced Chao mechanic rebuilt and enhanced for newer systems? And a complete reworking of the physics to remove various glitches?
...Sure, I'd be game for that. I'd even pay $20-30 for each, in fact.
But now is probably not the best time.
And then you'd have to consider how conservative you're going to be to the game's original design. Will it be the same with a technical overhaul, or a complete re-imagining with different layouts and story progression?
There's a lot to consider.
But again, now is probably not the best time. SA2 "HD" was only just released a couple years ago, and people still aren't quite forgiving of Sonic Adventure's repetitively crappy ports.
There needs to be a bigger timegap, especially since these games have been released within the past 5 years.
SuperBrandon reacted to Kiah in Did you ever get out of Sonic?
I knew there was a topic like this around here somewhere...
I did get out of Sonic, and it was for a long while too. I've been putting this off long enough, as I've mentioned time and time again that I would explain what caused me to get out of Sonic for 15 years, as my circumstances that caused me to leave were rather different, as they weren't caused by anything Sega or Sonic Team did or didn't do. Anyway, now that I've found the topic, here's my story:
My beginning with Sonic was back in June 1991 when I got a Sega Genesis with Sonic 1 as a reward from my father as I was the only one between me and my sisters that had made the Honor Roll for the whole school year. I remember seeing an ad from Toys R Us advertising Sonic and the Sega Genesis, and I showed it to my dad, telling him that's what I wanted after being undecided for about 2 weeks. I didn't know anything about either Sonic or the Sega Genesis, but I wanted it because Sonic looked so cool.
I loved the game and eventually I had Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Spinball in my collection. I really enjoyed the games but it was the cartoons that really got me into Sonic, especially Sonic SatAM. I was so into the cartoon that I would record the episodes and watch them repeatedly every day. I also started drawing, painting, crafting Sonic and the SatAM characters (as well as Knuckles) with whatever materials I could get my hands on. But my main thing that I was doing in regards to Sonic was writing fanfictions. And I wrote a lot of them, be it short or long stories, with or without pictures.
I was so into writing my fanfics that I would sneak a pen and paper in my pocket when I had to go outside to the park to play. I would sit behind a huge tree and I would continue my writing instead of playing with my siblings and friends. Then I bought a mini blue flashlight that I used at nighttime to continue writing my stories after my family was asleep, so I could write in peace. Some nights during the weekend I would pull an all-nighter as I would watch Sonic SatAM followed by more writing. I forget how many stories I had written, but I had hundreds of pages of writings and my drawings all based on Sonic. To say I was addicted to Sonic was an understatement.
Apparently, my father wasn't too fond of my Sonic addiction, and he took matters into his own hands on how to handle it. I was 11 years old at the time and one day, while I was at school, he went into my room and threw out my Sonic stories, my video cassettes with my Sonic SatAM episodes in them, my Sonic illustrations along with my supplies. I came home and saw everything was gone and knew what happened, as that day was a Monday-trash day. I couldn't believe it, and I was devastated. I cried myself to sleep that night as everything I Ioved and adored about and worked hard for with Sonic was gone.
My stories and drawings were in the trash, never to be seen again, along with my video cassettes. Both Sonic cartoons were cancelled at this point so I didn't have those as well. I didn't have my games anymore either because somehow my Sega Genesis picked up a virus from one of the games and it would freeze and got so bad to the point that the game was unplayable. So there I was with absolutely nothing in regards to my Sonic stuff. I had dreams of becoming both an author and an animator, so my dreams were thrown away along with my works. I found my losses to be too much to recover from, as I had nothing left but memories. Not mention I found the whole situation very painful. There was no way I could start all over again considering all that I had written and drawn. Heartbroken, I "walked away" from Sonic, never intending to come back to him ever again.
But one night in March of 2010, 15 years later, at 26 years old, I was playing with my new cell phone and somehow ended up on Youtube on its browser. After coming across some Animaniacs clips, my curiosity got the best out of me, as I wondering if Sonic SatAM was on there. I didn't know what it was referred to at the time, so I typed in "Sonic cartoons". The first thing I clicked on was a clip from the first episode of Sonic X and it caught my attention. But I really wanted to find something from Sonic SatAM so I kept searching. I finally found my favorite episodes of "Blast to the Past (parts 1 & 2)".
After watching both epsiodes I was overwhelmed with nostalgia and emotion. I realized that after all of this time I still adored Sonic like I had back when I was 11 years old. I was curious about the Sonic X clip and went back and watched the first episode. This was the first time I had seen Amy among others, not to mention the first time I saw Knuckles in a cartoon, so I was very excited and intrigued. I watched more episodes of Sonic X as well as cutscenes from Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic '06 and Sonic Unleashed. I got absolutely no sleep that night as my revitalized interest in Sonic got the best of me.
For the nearly 3 years since my return to Sonic, it's been an interesting and fun journey in an effort to make up for lost time. Thankfully there have been many provisions full of information to help make that possible for me, including the Sonic Stadium. I honestly don't know if I will ever catch up with all the Sonic games, cartoons, and media out there that I've missed for the 15 years I was away, but I am sure going to keep trying, and I will continue to enjoy doing so.
SuperBrandon reacted to Kiah in Too old for Sonic?
If you are too old for Sonic at age 14, then what in the world does that make me at age 30?! I'm twice your age and then some!
Anyway, yes, I'm 30 years old and I am a big Sonic fan, all with no regrets and not giving a single thought to how old I am within the fanbase, especially those that think I am too old for Sonic. I'm the Sonic fan that has a whole 4-tier shelf full of Sonic toys and merchandise and walks around with a Sonic lanyard on their keys. I am the Sonic fan that has more than 90% of their video game collection being Sonic-related. I'm pretty sure that more than half of my posts that I have made here at the SSMB have been Sonic related, with 35% of my posts being in the Sonic Discussion sub-forum alone. And I am the Sonic fan that will never cease to admiring Sonic and his personality, as he is my favorite character of all time.
Sonic, and his colorful cast of characters, I like them all. I like them all A LOT.
Mind you I started doing all of this purchasing and collecting Sonic items when I was 26 years old, due to me unfortunately leaving Sonic for 15 years. Although this happened, it had nothing do to with me being too old for Sonic at age 11 or disliking Sonic even, but rather due to an unfortunate incident:
Whether you're 10 or 40 years old, I don't think age should have an effect on one's interests. I, as well as others I'm sure still enjoy plenty of stuff geared toward younger audiences and I'm not ashamed to admit that. I know good and well I'm probably not Sonic's target demographic, but I am still very much involved and passionate with the Sonic series. Overall, Sonic is awesome and full of character, and I adore him very much and find his video games and other forms of media to be both entertaining fun for the most part. Despite the fact that I am 30 years old now, my admiration will not diminish for Sonic now, nor will it happen anytime soon as I definitely don't feel that I am too old for Sonic. Not at all!

Kids can be capable of selfless sacrifices too I agree, but it's rare to find them.
But this is news. You guys are so used to "A girl got killed by a bunch of thugs" and other similar negative articles that even something inspirational like this, you discard it. I mean that kind of news happens everyday right? Go on to CNN and within 5 minutes, you'll hear about people dying in some horrible way, and call it news.
And again, it's rare to find kids that would do this. I'm pretty sure myself, if I was 9 years old I wouldn't be giving up anything valuable to me unless my parents forced me to.
This article shows love. Maybe if we have more articles like this, maybe more people including kids would be doing it. The world would be a better place if we have more people doing this.

I am surprised that this did not get here months ago, Hector Montoya selflessly used the money he was saving to buy smoke detectors for his neighborhood in case of emergency. He even got a PS4 for his efforts. So, does this put a smile on your day? And most people say kids are all selfish...
I hope this was a good find.

Well, I'm going to help you out. a guy on Youtube who goes by duncan33303 makes guides about how to build gaming PCs on a budget. I'm going to compile the 3 cheapest PC builds he's listed for 2013, and I'll update this thread if he makes new videos.
GAMING JARGON AND NEED TO KNOWS:
Now to the meat and potatoes of why you're here: Gaming PC's on an affordable budget.
First things first: invest in an Anti-static wrist band. Paul from NewEgg in one of the videos I linked explains the importance of ridding the static from your body and keeping the parts on non-conductive surfaces such as wood tables. aLthough constantly touching the case will work just fine for people who don't live in dry areas.
Also, Make sure to buy all the parts at once. I can't stress enough how important this is. PC parts are prone to failure, and if you aren't able to test them all at the same time, your RMA timeframe may expire and you'll be stuck with a dead part.
$350 (roughly) Gaming PC; Bare minimum performance
This took forever to type, so I'm going to post links to the other 3 build videos. I know how a lot of you are on a budget, so these might not interest you as much.
PC gaming is pretty accessible if you aren't trying to get all of the best components. I hope this clears up some of the fears behind PC gaming, and encourages people to try it out.
I've compiled a number of videos into a playlist that explain step by step what you need to do. For the love of god watch these videos before you attempt anything.
SuperBrandon reacted to Legosi (Tani Coyote) in RUMOUR: Next Sonic Game Allegedly has a working prototype - "Another new gameplay style? But we just got one...no...two!"
I'm not ragging on a new mechanic.
I'm ragging on the fact that Sonic Team has had more than two decades to know what works and what does not, and make great games consistently.
Yes, they do make good games from time to time. But usually they are meh or even flat out subpar.
I can pick up Mario, Zelda, Ratchet, or Jak and for the most part expect a good game. With Sonic, I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette.
Are there great people on Sonic Team? Of course, that goes without saying. But the team as a whole is just flat out not a good developer. Which I why I confess I dreaded hearing they were having a supervisory role with Sonic Boom. I'd quite frankly prefer they not have anything to do with it at all.

EXCEPT CHEESE DOESN'T BOUNCE ABOUT THE PLACE LIKE A FUCKING PANSY WHENEVER HE TOUCHES SOME PUSSY ASS SPIKES

CHEESE IS A FUCKING BOSS
WHO CAN RAPE YOUR SHIT WHENEVER HE DAMN WELL FEELS LIKE IT
TL;DR, Discuss the awesomness that is Cheese the Chao. I command you to. >=3
SuperBrandon reacted to Scott in I can't be bothered to care about Sonic anymore.
I can relate, I mean I've been gone from here for probably over a year now and just came back after deciding to give a Sonic game another try!
For me, despite the missed opportunities in Generations, it was the series most recent high point and I think part of that was because it was on the more "mainstream, dominating consoles" and then suddenly, SEGA become Nintendo only - as if they were actually part of Nintendo. Where they release their games only on Wii-U or 3DS which is pretty much their way of saying "if you don't like it, suck it". I personally don't want a Wii-U, at all! So I'm stuck with watered down titles on the handheld, fair enough I still get to play them. But multi-format Sonic titles, while maybe glitchy still unified the fanbase in a way that I feel none of us notice, we take it for granted and expect every Sonic title on ALL consoles. Usually the only thing we're left with now on non-nintendo devices is ports...
SuperBrandon reacted to Gabz Girl in I can't be bothered to care about Sonic anymore.
I've noticed that since Sonic Unleashed I've cared a lot less about Sonic and his games. Not because they're bad, in fact I enjoyed Sonic Colours for what it was and I love S3&K to this day, but the boost gameplay started to become stale and I noticed all this focus on Sonic only. I know he's the main character and all but his only interactions include Tails and Dr Eggman. He hardly interacts nowadays with Amy, Knuckles and all the other characters. You know what, that's my main problem with today's Sonic and why I'm losing interest in his games;
No interaction, no focus and barely any screentime from the other characters!
Now they are also introducing simple little stories and sometimes cringe worthy "funny" dialogue and I'm sick and tired of that direction. I don't want the boost2win, I don't want solo Sonic feat. Tails and Eggman, I don't want short stories with anti climactic endings and, while SLW did step away from boosting gameplay and tried something different, it still fell flat on its face because it wasn't implemented well. Oh, and it still had all those things I mentioned before which I don't want in Sonic anymore!
I'm VERY concerned about the next SEGA Sonic game because of all these things and unless they can win me back with an epic big game on the scale of Sonic Unleashed or SA2, then I will just end up losing more and more interest in the franchise. =[
SuperBrandon reacted to RK64 in I can't be bothered to care about Sonic anymore.
Its odd for me, as I still love the series but since I don't own a Wii U (and don't plan to till at the very least 2015)....I haven't played a new Sonic game like I did Generations and Racing Transformed since 2012 :l.
I still love the series and really enjoyed the little I played of Lost World at the GameStop demo station every now and then....but for some reason, I feel more cynical of the series (and games in general sadly ). Between playing tons of other newer platformers and not really following Sonic news anymore (I can't believe I more or less left this site for a good few months once I joined NeoGaf ), I kinda been disinterested in any news following Sonic Boom (or even the Lost World DLC despite how cool it looked).
I don't know, I know Boom will at the very least be good on Wii U and great on 3DS (Sanzaru KNOWS how to make great platformers )....but, I feel that I left this series, even though I still feel like I care about it.
I guess once the next offical Sonic Team game is shown off I will gravitate back into the series once more (who knows, Boom might even be a great game) but as of now....I feel indifferent toward the series .
It also was really shocking the amount of pure hate the series gets outside of here ! NeoGaf consistently hates on all Sonic Boom news and many members their don't like Lost World much at all . I guess this is and other Sonic message boards/sites like Sonic Retro are the only places where the spirt of Sonic is still alive and kicking, and that is really sad; more people should love this great series .

I had a dog once, it was the most energetic and fun dog I ever had. It was my best friend.
But one day, my dog got ran over by a car and we had to amputate one of his legs and sew the right eyesocket shut.
It hurt, but I still loved that dog no matter his imperfections.
But then as the dog started to get older, he started to develop tumors on his brain and vomit everywhere, and he wasn't as fun to be around anymore, but I kept him anyways because I was too attached to the fucker.
Eventually, so many tumors developed on his brain and he was declared officially brain dead, but I've kept him on life support to this very day hoping in vain that he'd open his eyes and fight those tumors off. I was hoping for god to perform a miracle.
That dog's name was Sonic. And he's not actually a dog, he's a hedgehog.
SuperBrandon reacted to Cortez in I can't be bothered to care about Sonic anymore.
I just can't.
Sonic 1 was the first game I ever played. I was 2 at the time, I fell in love from the moment I played it and never looked back. Sonic 2 was the first game I owned, the first game I ever completed. When I was a young child I used to wake up hours before school just so I could play Sonic 3 with my brother. I was so into Sonic. I used to eat, sleep and breathe this franchise. I got Sonic Adventure for Christmas 1999, I remember being devastated because this was the game I dreamed of owning and had no means to play it. The big final 'for the family' present that year was a Dreamcast, probably one of the happiest moments of my life. Didn't have a VMU, I didn't even care, I'd just replay it day after day for a year until we got one. Best times <3
I joined SSMB when I was 14, that's nearly 9 years ago, even at that age I knew Shadow the Hedgehog was digging a hole the franchise couldn't escape from but my inner fanboy was willing to ride that out. Sonic Rush completely counteracted whatever damage this game did, absolutely height of my forum life. Got banned from here like 3 times due to naivety, didn't even care, online Sonic discussion was like drugs to me back then haha!
06 happened. I don't think I've ever been more excited about a game than I was that, despite all the obvious issues from the get go the amount of hype surrounding that game was truly something to behold. I bought a 360 purely for that game, this was THE Sonic game, this was the game that would put Sonic back on the map. It didn't.
Unleashed, I was a bit older at that point, Werehog made me sigh, I wasn't all that into the Daytime gameplay either, my love for Sonic kinda dwindled at this point. I was still big on illustration at this time though so DeviantArt kinda kept me going, in my eyes Sonic was still this unstoppable force, I truly believed that it was a massive behemoth of a franchise that was loved by millions. Oh how wrong I was.
Generations, oh my sweet Jesus, my 20 year old self could not handle this game. What an absolute rush I'd get from even thinking about this game. Pokemon remakes give you a nostalgia trip but this was something else, this was Sonic, the franchise I'd grown up with tailored to the fans who had been there from day 1. This was a game made for me (maybe not gameplay wise but everything else).
And it delivered. But where did we go from there? I'd still get a kick from even the monthly Sonic Channel artwork upload and when Lost World was announced I truly did believe Sonic was back for good. My little childhood hero had found his feet and things would be good from here on out.
Game is released. Within an hour I'm bored. To this day I haven't even finished it, a culmination of a cringe inducing script and awkward gameplay I can't get behind. Then BAM, Sonic Boom. I get that it's not 'main Sonic' but my god I can't even give the slightest shit about this, I've never ever felt like I've outgrown Sonic as much as I have now. My eleven year old brother doesn't even care about Sonic anymore and I made a point out of playing every Sonic game together while he was growing up.
After joining NeoGAF and seeing just few people even care about Sonic anymore it's just kind of changed my whole opinion on things, this truly is a washed up mascot we're dealing with now. I've poured my heart and soul into this franchise only to be disappointed year after year and I really don't think I care anymore. It's been nearly a decade since I joined this forum and nothing has changed, we're still in this weird limbo where we annually assess whether this latest release will be a Sonic game worth caring about. Maybe I've just outgrown all this bullshit now?
Am I alone with this?

Forget Lost World. I have never seen a Sonic game that has so much negativity before the game is out. It's even worse than Sonic 2006.
This game though is clearly aimed for the LEGO, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Ben 10 audience (although arguably Disney Infinity had a much better reception than Boom...) don't know why the previewers are failing to see that...
Again I believe this game will sell, but it will have 3/10 reviews all over the place. There even could be some instances where some assistants in game stores would warn the adult/child that the game would be terrible.

Because I think it looks shite. And that's my judgement. I'm not going to leech off a preview to come to a judgement, when the footage is out there and I can come to a temporary judgement myself.
