Finished story mode.  Wow did the finale live up to the hype regarding both it's awesomeness and intensity!  There was so much hype I was starting to doubt it'd manage it but nope, totally did.

My only disappointment with the story mode was the soundtrack really.  It's all good stuff but did get a bit repetitive and lacking in atmosphere.  I don't think 5 songs was quite enough to spread across 27 levels.  I admit there is a charm that harkens back to the old soundtracks of NES games where something like that was the norm, but... still.  I also found the music overall weaker than the online Battle music.  The online music is like, quirky but damn cool.  The Single Player music is all quirky and a lot more video-gamey lol.  I missed the cool factor.

Other than that the ending kind of surprised me in the sense that:

Yeah honestly I think part of the problem here is that we choose to get so goddamn personal when it comes to the debates and stuff here. I'm not saying being passionate is a bad thing, but all the aggressiveness bordering on personal attacks is just making things worse. Yesterday, I saw mods and members alike get away with saying some awful shit without even really getting called out on it, which did nothing for getting their point across and everything for getting other people riled up. It's not the first time debates have gotten that bad either. I don't even feel like participating in debates anymore here because more and more of them devolve into that.

One thing we need to do is just chill out and realize that we don't need to come at other people to defend our position. We need to detach ourselves juuust a tad.

I watched the shit go down last night, and people here really need to learn how to have an actual debate. It kind of just escalated into little more than a slap fight over ethics, and while I feel both sides made great arguments, those points were all kind of lost in the aggressiveness.

Honestly, no matter how good of an argument you make, if you seem angry and pissed off then it's going to weaken the point you're trying to make as well as just nurture hostility between you and the person involved. Unless you actively want to create issues, then I'd say that this isn't a good thing. When the moderators are being just as bad as the members in that regard, then I can see why people would be as exasperated with this place as they are. It doesn't show a lot of potential for the needed change to make this an endearing community that people want to be a part of instead of just stick around because they have a friend or two they like.

Not to say that heated discussion is bad - on the contrary, I think debates are healthy and promote much needed intelligent discussion. A debate can quickly lose its positive qualities if it devolves into the shit that went down last night, though. I sit back and I see this kind of thing happen on here all of the time, really, and I've been here for just barely over two months. Something as simple as exerting a little tact here and there can go a long way towards fixing the problems addressed in the OP, me thinks.

We have to do something about ourselves. It's clear to everyone that there's more than a tolerable level of hostility pervading this place as of late, though there's no one clear reason why. I dunno if the negativity is brought on by the recent trend in games or just by the recent trend in our behavior, but either way it needs to stop, and we need to do something about it. I care too much about you guys and too much about this community to let it devolve into rubbish; the least we can do is to give a shot at something.

But what can we do? How do you change the trajectory of such a large group of people?I keep trying to think of something, but I'm too run down and tired to do the project any good. I need your guys' help. If not for me, then for each other, and for the future members of the board. What can we do?

Whoo! Got my first request for the Cosplay Inklings Commissions I started up on DA and here's the finished result!

Also I heard about the Testfire. I was shocked that they were going to have another one and it made my brother and me partial regret deleting our testfire demo. We'll have to download it again.

    Remember when this...

...used to mean something? Because it doesn't anymore, not to me.

Seriously though, FORTY SIX mobile titles? I know mobile games aren't exactly expensive or difficult to churn out but Christ that is a lot. Did I mention how terrible it makes them look? Not even EA, who are allegedly evil, pump out this many mobile titles, and they are much bigger than SEGA are.

Also, I wonder how many of these are Sonic games, and how many of these Sonic games are Sonic Boom games.

"Lazy" is the wrong word to look for when describing what Nintendo are doing here. "Misguided" would be the better term.

It might seem like a small thing but there's nothing more unprofessional you can say as a critic when making a comment about the negative qualities of something. For one thing it's incredibly unhelpful, and for the other it assumes a little too much about a developer in spite of the intent, something that they made clear here. You're not going to convince Nintendo to put it in if you start deriding their capability in effort. With Splatoon it's been mentioned many times in the past how the omission was a conscious decision, spawned primarily by the vitriol associated with public voice chats but also the design of the game itself encouraging individual proactivity over any co-ordinated approaches. Lazy is the last word I would ever use to describe a Nintendo game, lest of all Splatoon which is thriving off of continuous content and a netcode which yesterday was proven to be amazingly stable for a Nintendo game, proving that they have the chops to do online if they put their minds to it.

That said, in spite of my general ambivalence to voice chat it is still a short-sighted decision to not provide the ability to opt-in, and I would hope that in spite of the comments made about public voice chat (which I can understand being omitted still when a friend drops into a random game), the matchmaking lobby update will allow to voice chat within teams. Things like this can generally help the competitive side of things and Nintendo wouldn't have to worry about any unsolicited voice chatters saying things that others wouldn't be okay with. I mean, I wouldn't use it, I'd just stay on Skype, but convenience and options are never a bad thing and like it or not, Smash and Mario Kart already had this, so Nintendo doesn't have much of an excuse.

I will say that it was pretty funny of IGN to use "celebrate in silence" as an annotation for the picture they posted when that picture has the canned messages in the bottom corner there for that very purpose of positive reinforcement.

But the thing with Guardians, it got a hook and a style. Ant Man so far look like another generic, run of the mill super hero film. It would probably do decent enough in the box office, but it won't be one of Marvel's best.

I just hope the movie avoids "too many cooks in the kitchen" syndrome/trying to cram too much in it's runtime, since it's got the largest cast we've seen so far I think. The first thing has a higher chance of happening cause of said larger cast, and the 2nd thing....well.....Avengers 2 already had that problem so if this movie is even bigger...

Oh, that makes more sense then. Thanks.

That's a relief because I wanted the Amiibo (seriously they look really cool) but the on-disc DLC still rubs me in the wrong way. I guess the free DLC does make up for that though, so it's not all bad.

Stress tests are markedly different from Beta / Alpha testing. The latter are held mostly to garner general game play and balancing feedback. Stress tests are usually no longer than an hour, and Splatoon is no exception. The reason they are limited in time is because they're there to encourage heavy server load. This doesn't happen if you extend the general times. By having a short stress test you maximize the likelyhood of players joining in during the given timeslots because of less opportunities to do so.

Again, refer to the aforementioned Dark Souls 2 which saw it's original Japan only stress test to encompass one hour while it's first Worldwide test encompassed two hours. Since it required more time in the oven though there were additional longer periods announced after it's original testing.

If Splatoon requires additional testing there will be more periods announced over time.
