    Doctor Who

Honestly, I think the idea of having a woman play The Doctor is rather an exciting opportunity! So long as they don't place too much focus on it, I'm fine. I'm always amused when people become genuinely upset with each new incarnation. In my mind, change is integral to a show like Doctor Who. And after Missy, this was all but an inevitability. Like every new Doctor, I'm going to withhold judgment until the debut. Until then, I remain open to good things from Ms. Whittaker's coming tenure. I've defended Moffat in the past, but I've come to feel that this would be how he'd write a female incarnation. I fear the overall presentation under Moffat would come across as shallow and obnoxious.

    Happy Birthday!

  3. I saw Volume Two the other day with a friend, and I'm glad we got around to it! Personally, coming out of the theater, I enjoyed it more than the first. I felt more emotionally engaged this time around. In the end, I cared more about the characters here than the first. But then again, that film was merely an introduction to the Guardians themselves. Regarding character development, I feel like Volume Two took the right route and expanded upon everything from Volume One. I love what they did Nebula here. It would come as no surprise to me if she were to die in Infinity War, but I was happy to see how her character came around in the sequel. Honestly, I was a tad worried coming in that the film's humor would feel too forced or inappropriate, but thankfully, I didn't really reach that conclusion. It was often times surprisingly restrained. In the end, I can't recall the last time I got suckered into an MCU movie on such an emotional level. If you ask me, Ego was one of the better MCU villains, too. In fact, now that I think about it, I'm sure I'd rank this up in my top five favorite MCU movies. I'm not sure where it would fall, but in my estimation, it's not far from Winter Soldier or Civil War in terms of quality. That isn't to say the movie is without flaws, but nevertheless, it was a very satisfying experience.

I need to set my alarm more often. I can't take a cat nap only to reawaken more than a century later in some strange future. It's just not professional.

    The General American Politics Thread

I'd at least want them both to be a persuasive presence in the party. I'd love to have either of them assume the mantle in four years time, but Warren is more likely to do it. I'm eager to see who rises to prominence within the Democratic ranks in the meantime. I'd vote for a Julian Castro or a Kirsten Gillibrand if presented with the opportunity.

I'd be absolutely thrilled at the prospect of voting for Elizabeth Warren. I adore that woman. Honestly, I would have been more enthused this year if she had run rather than Hillary. I'd canvas for her without any hesitation. I hope she's among the Democratic vanguard come 2020.

    The General American Politics Thread

I won't lie here, today was rough. I'm glad I didn't languish in misery, but it was hard to really get a spring in my step. I waited with baited breath for hours last night only to see Trump win the election and become our 45th President. You could say I'm crestfallen but alive. I've been fighting that urge to wallow all day, and I'm glad I didn't break down. I still have hope in the democratic process. I still have hope in the American electorate. I'm upset with the fact that we elected the quintessential Ugly American in Donald J. Trump, but this isn't the end. The mid-terms will be here soon enough, and with them, the pendulum might swing back toward the center. I have hope in the future. Even though a part of me is afraid that LGBT rights will be rolled back dramatically, nonetheless, that hope will remain intact. I can't fall back on fear right now. I have to use this time to exercise my faith. I will use such feelings of disappointment for more constructive purposes in the next two to four years. As much as I wanted to wallow today, I'm glad I did not do that.
  9. I think you can learn a new way of thinking from just about anyone or anything. Even that person or circumstance isn't the best, that doesn't mean no good can be reaped from the experience of having to deal with them. As much as I wish I didn't make mistakes, I'm a better person because of what I have learned from them. Mistakes don't need to define you, but they can make you into better people if you allow yourself to learn from them. I know this is a weird thing to bring up here, but it was an idea I felt was worth the share.

      Kiah

It actually isn't a weird thing at all as that has probably been one of the most frequent things I have said on this very site for one reason or another ^_^

      Hey, live and learn.

    3. Kiah

      Kiah

And if I may add on to what you said @Killtank, not only should mistakes not define you, you shouldn't let them defeat or torture you either having them hang over your head forever either. Just learn your lessons from the mistakes made and try to help out others from them too if possible and definitely move forward even if it is gradually. Just keep moving forward with your learned lessons in tact.

    4. Killtank

      Killtank

I agree with what you both have said. And @Kiah, you make plenty of sense with what you've said here. Mistakes are inevitable, but they need not render you incapable of living life. I think a little self-forgiveness is essential to the process of forward progression. You can't move on if you can't forgive yourself for mistakes made in the past. And truthfully speaking, there aren't very many mistakes one can't walk away from, so it doesn't serve much of a purpose to be cruel to oneself. Like you said, you can help others not make your same mistakes, and in that same vein, move forward with those lessons learned. In the end, you can't let fear dominate your life. 'Cause if you do, then you don't have much of a life left to live.
