SurrealBrain got a reaction from Ryannumber1gamer in [Roleplay] SSMB Heroes Academy: Protect The Multiverse!
"Bad guys play cards with each other?" asked Amitie.

"Happens all the time, kiddo." said Lupin. He's not surprised at this point.

"Looks like they're kinda having fun...I think..." said Sig, curious.

SurrealBrain got a reaction from BlueSky in The Archie Sonic STH #252 Purge: 5 Years Later
I know it's been five years, but I'm not gonna lie when I say 2013 as a whole is only starting to feel like it wasn't recent. Many things that happened that year still don't feel like they happened five years ago, though that's just me.
I won't lie, though, maybe it is time to move on. Barring a miracle, I legitimately do not see the old Archie Sonic continuity ever coming back. Heck, Archie Sonic in any of its forms returning kinda feels like a pipe dream, but the old continuity even moreso.

SurrealBrain reacted to Kiah in The Avatar and Signature Topic
Today marks my 7th year anniversary on SSMB and like several members have noticed and mentioned I continued my tradition of changing my avatar here as it is the only time I do so.
Since joining here on this day back in 2012 I have always had a Sonic-related avatar and from 2013 to 2018 I had one with at least Sonic and Tails in it. This year I took it back to the beginning of my tenure here with Sonic only:

This image is from the ending cutscene of Sonic Unleashed and looking back I’m surprised that I’ve gone this long without an avatar from my favorite video game of all time! I’m definitely way overdue for showing Unleashed some love.
Going back to the image, after Chip’s departure, hearing his parting words and taking his necklace as a keepsake of their adventure Sonic takes a brief moment to reflect. Then he’s off to his next adventure doing one of the things he does best by running. I feel like this moment is indicative of moments in life in general and it’s definitely indicative of my own life in the near future.
My signature remains untouched for another year. It is still the infamous brofist between Sonic and Tails from one of the ending cutscenes from Sonic Colors, which is my second favorite video games of all-time next to Unleashed. Sonic and Tails being best friends and the brotherly love between them across all forms of media is my favorite thing in the entire Sonic series and I absolutely love it! Especially by means of this gesture between them 🙂
The quotes from Richard Bach, John Madden and the middle quote that I saw on a bumper sticker that I felt was some really good advice still remain in there my signature. I have had members continue to tell me they appreciated those quotes so keeping them there made sense to me seeing that it has helped others as that is something I really enjoy doing and strive to continue to do here at the SSMB as long as I’m here.
Now via my avatar and signature I have the best of both worlds with my video game favorites in both Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors 😉

I wouldn't bank on too many new characters. In my personal opinion, though, if they did add to the playable roster, they should stick to the Naughty Dog-era characters that aren't already playable.

SurrealBrain got a reaction from Blueknight V2.0 in Sly Cooper Movie / TV Series
I would rather see a complete remake of the Sly trilogy, considering the PS3 ports were...hit or miss if you ask me. I still think the PS2 is the best way to play the games if you don't mind grainier visuals on modern displays, so if they did a complete remake, I'd be down with that.
If they did a port ala the Sly Trilogy, I wouldn't want them to slap together a port of the PS3 versions and call it good, myself, but that's the most realistic thing I can see, sadly.

So am I, but I'm not holding my breath. Worse comes to worst, there's always the bargain bin, and since it will have the entirety of Spyro 1 on there, I can get the PS1 versions of Spyro 2 and 3 if I want complete physical copies.
It's not that I'm never gonna buy this, but the matter has made me decide it's best to wait for the bargain bin for this one.

Granted, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was one Sonic Team had little to do with, the development handled by Big Red Button. It sounded more like a team who had things fighting against them the entire time, and in hindsight, I still can't believe it's been four years since I tried and failed to defend that one...and I do mean failed, hoo boy, I must have been desperate to find anything remotely joyous about that one, though the likely reasons why are best suited for another topic entirely.

IDW Sonic did take some time, but I feel like it's starting to grow its beard, if it hasn't already. Enough so that I'm glad I stuck with it. That said, while I've been enjoying the ride and been getting more or less what I expected, I do see why some think it's a bit slow to really get started, the more I think about it. Again, I got what I expected and am satisfied, but this is stuff I thought about.
That said, I heard extremely conflicting reports on its sales figures, so only time will tell if it's going to continue.

SurrealBrain reacted to Kiah in Did you ever get out of Sonic?
    BUMP!

I knew there was a topic like this around here somewhere...

I did get out of Sonic, and it was for a long while too. I've been putting this off long enough, as I've mentioned time and time again that I would explain what caused me to get out of Sonic for 15 years, as my circumstances that caused me to leave were rather different, as they weren't caused by anything Sega or Sonic Team did or didn't do. Anyway, now that I've found the topic, here's my story:

My beginning with Sonic was back in June 1991 when I got a Sega Genesis with Sonic 1 as a reward from my father as I was the only one between me and my sisters that had made the Honor Roll for the whole school year. I remember seeing an ad from Toys R Us advertising Sonic and the Sega Genesis, and I showed it to my dad, telling him that's what I wanted after being undecided for about 2 weeks. I didn't know anything about either Sonic or the Sega Genesis, but I wanted it because Sonic looked so cool.

I loved the game and eventually I had Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Spinball in my collection. I really enjoyed the games but it was the cartoons that really got me into Sonic, especially Sonic SatAM. I was so into the cartoon that I would record the episodes and watch them repeatedly every day. I also started drawing, painting, crafting Sonic and the SatAM characters (as well as Knuckles) with whatever materials I could get my hands on. But my main thing that I was doing in regards to Sonic was writing fanfictions. And I wrote a lot of them, be it short or long stories, with or without pictures.

I was so into writing my fanfics that I would sneak a pen and paper in my pocket when I had to go outside to the park to play. I would sit behind a huge tree and I would continue my writing instead of playing with my siblings and friends. Then I bought a mini blue flashlight that I used at nighttime to continue writing my stories after my family was asleep, so I could write in peace. Some nights during the weekend I would pull an all-nighter as I would watch Sonic SatAM followed by more writing. I forget how many stories I had written, but I had hundreds of pages of writings and my drawings all based on Sonic. To say I was addicted to Sonic was an understatement.

Apparently, my father wasn't too fond of my Sonic addiction, and he took matters into his own hands on how to handle it. I was 11 years old at the time and one day, while I was at school, he went into my room and threw out my Sonic stories, my video cassettes with my Sonic SatAM episodes in them, my Sonic illustrations along with my supplies. I came home and saw everything was gone and knew what happened, as that day was a Monday-trash day. I couldn't believe it, and I was devastated. I cried myself to sleep that night as everything I Ioved and adored about and worked hard for with Sonic was gone.

My stories and drawings were in the trash, never to be seen again, along with my video cassettes. Both Sonic cartoons were cancelled at this point so I didn't have those as well. I didn't have my games anymore either because somehow my Sega Genesis picked up a virus from one of the games and it would freeze and got so bad to the point that the game was unplayable. So there I was with absolutely nothing in regards to my Sonic stuff. I had dreams of becoming both an author and an animator, so my dreams were thrown away along with my works. I found my losses to be too much to recover from, as I had nothing left but memories. Not mention I found the whole situation very painful. There was no way I could start all over again considering all that I had written and drawn. Heartbroken, I "walked away" from Sonic, never intending to come back to him ever again.

But one night in March of 2010, 15 years later, at 26 years old, I was playing with my new cell phone and somehow ended up on Youtube on its browser. After coming across some Animaniacs clips, my curiosity got the best out of me, as I wondering if Sonic SatAM was on there. I didn't know what it was referred to at the time, so I typed in "Sonic cartoons". The first thing I clicked on was a clip from the first episode of Sonic X and it caught my attention. But I really wanted to find something from Sonic SatAM so I kept searching. I finally found my favorite episodes of "Blast to the Past (parts 1 & 2)".

After watching both epsiodes I was overwhelmed with nostalgia and emotion. I realized that after all of this time I still adored Sonic like I had back when I was 11 years old. I was curious about the Sonic X clip and went back and watched the first episode. This was the first time I had seen Amy among others, not to mention the first time I saw Knuckles in a cartoon, so I was very excited and intrigued. I watched more episodes of Sonic X as well as cutscenes from Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic '06 and Sonic Unleashed. I got absolutely no sleep that night as my revitalized interest in Sonic got the best of me.

For the nearly 3 years since my return to Sonic, it's been an interesting and fun journey in an effort to make up for lost time. Thankfully there have been many provisions full of information to help make that possible for me, including the Sonic Stadium. I honestly don't know if I will ever catch up with all the Sonic games, cartoons, and media out there that I've missed for the 15 years I was away, but I am sure going to keep trying, and I will continue to enjoy doing so.

The Game Over screens in DKC 2 and 3 freaked me out as a kid, and I would reset the game whenever I got a game over in those two. DKC3 did get a bit harder to take seriously when I realized what Dixie and Kiddy were in, and you could play around with the music blocks in the SNES version, but the doors opening and closing still freak me out.
Ironically, DKC1's game over screen doesn't freak me out as much. Probably because I played that one much, much later.
Banjo-Kazooie's Game Over screen also had this effect on me, with me being afraid of Tooty, and yes, even Grunty for some reason. Banjo-Tooie, I heard would have had a nightmarish game over screen had they not run out of time to implement it. But they did, meaning a game over was just a piece of text over the sceen before carrying on. A downgrade, maybe, but one my childhood self was very thankful for at the time.
Some games had such creepy failure screens, I looked away without even looking at the actual Game Over screens.
    I was an odd kid.

SurrealBrain got a reaction from lbyrd2 in Does Sonic Forces have you awaiting the next 3D game announcement?
I've honestly been extremely wishy washy on whether or not I'd want another 3D Sonic game right now. I am aware relying on the Mania formula won't work forever (without any other Sonic game as a supplement, the furthest I could see it going is a trilogy before fatigue makes itself at home), but I have been sorta feeling like Sonic Team might need some time off.
But again, wishy washy, had conflicting ideas as to where to go from here. Sometimes, a break helps. And while I don't think continuing from Mania's success should be a permanent solution, it could at least be a temporary solution to buy Sonic Team some time to recharge some batteries.

That would require IDW to even be allowed to touch the Archie Sonic universe in any of its forms, and while I do hope that can happen someday...I'll be shocked if it's anytime soon. I'm of the belief that it'd have to be long after the whole thing has blown over, and honestly, it's only been little over a year since Archie lost the license.
So while I'm not ruling it out entirely, I don't think I'm being entirely unrealistic when I say it could be a few years, if it even has a shot of happening at all.
