  1. There is no bigotry informed by religion, only religion used as an excuse for bigotry

What about the hundreds of bits in multiple religious texts which are like "lol fuck those guys amirite".

What about the hundreds of changes made to every religion ever to dummy out the things the people following it aren't okay with

So much for those books being the inmutable words of god, then.

yeah that was kind of the point

if it gets changed from it's original form at all there's no justification that works for it still allowing you to be an asshole, since you can just change that too, and refusing to do so while selectively allowing other more convenient changes only betrays where your real intent lies

If the books are outdated lies, why not just throw out the whole religion then? You don't need fear of god to have a moral society, and if fact, it could easily be argued that arguments from authority are terrible way to structure a moral society.

For the record, I don't have a problem with people having faith or being spiritualistic, I have a problem with organized religion and its effect on politics and society at large. How closely an organized group sticks to its texts doesn't often change much.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I just don't think there's much way of "throwing out" the whole thing at once.

Christianity as it is runs on a translation of the Bible from the 1500s. Since then, people have found translation errors, which interpret certain lessons as something wildly different. But many people don't care, or even want to care. Many people don't realise the original Bible isn't even English.

That's just one religion. I don't have a problem with what you practice, but at least realise there is more to your faith than just your faith.
