Hey guys, you want some sales stats for the crossover issues before I head to bed?

    Last month, I reported that Sonic Universe #76 aka WU part 1 sold 8,657 direct market copies, way down on the debut issue of WC. Well, we have more comics in, and it seems a little more stable, although still not nearly as high as WC at this point;

    Sonic Boom #8 (WU p2) - 8,231
    Sonic #273 (WU p3) - 9,823
Mega Man: Worlds Unite Battles - 8,668
    Mega Man #50 (WU p4) - 10,760
    Sonic Universe #77 (WU p5) - 8,689

Oh look, people turned out for the milestone issue of Mega Man, and given that SU#75 (a pre-WU story) sold 11,618 direct market, it seems more people are drawn in by that than the fact it's a crossover. :/ At least it bodes well for Sonic #275?

Hey guys, I'm Chase. I'm a recent high school graduate who has way too many ideas and plans for this summer to do all of them. I got Mega Collection for GameCube as a kid, and have loved Sonc ever since, playing (most of) the games, reading the comic, and (finally) joining a group of fellow Sonic fans. As you can see, I'm also a big Zelda fan, and a huge gamer overall, tending towards more "classic" series.

Speaking as a non-reader, the vibe I get from Worlds Unite is that Ian Flynn was put in a difficult position.  Sega mandates pretty fatally undermine the Boom element of the crossover, but on top of that it might be more that WU was more something he was told to do rather than actively wanting to do, especially at this point in time.  I could believe that Worlds Collide was something he'd been pushing for personally, but the fact that Worlds Unite doesn't seem to have such a strong core gives me the impression it's not something he had pre-planned.

Sunwalker reacted to biznizz in Archie Sonic Main Discussion
I feel as if I'm playing devil's advocate in saying that I am not hating WU as much as others. Sure, it's not as good as WC (so far, final judgment when it finally wraps), but I can't bring myself to fully dislike it.

If anything, I'm just kinda... sad about it.

And a lot of it is because of just how much it seemed that Kaminski unwittingly sabotaged this from the get-go before jumping ship over to DC.

I don't know who's going to be the penciler for the third act, but I kinda dug Schoening's art in Act 1, and despite the stiffness of Huang's art so far in Act 2, I feel it could be worse. But bringing in these "guest" artists from other companies has so far hurt the crossover than enhance it.

Some of the plot beats, whether it made it to page or not, are seeming to ambitious for the crossover's own good. People, I think, would have survived Sticks being the only Boom cast member (most assumed such due to the marketing), and C.C. and F.B. would have been better off cut so Team Dark DIDN'T have to die to induce stakes, or even allow a slightly better flow to the story. Unless those two wind up saving the day similar to Bebop & Rocksteady in Turtles Forever, then they are completely surperflous. Scratch that, even if that scenario DOES happen, that might be apt to piss people off more.

We are currently half way through Act 2, yet none of the other SEGA & Capcom characters are here, which seems too late, that perhaps they would've been better off starting to show up at the end of Act 1.

And even after the crossover, you got some real depressing stuff to look forward to. Sure, WC ended with the old Sonic continuity getting rebooted, but the argument can be made that has given the books a new breath of fresh air.

After Unite, we got Boom getting cancelled, Mega Man going on a (most likely indefinite) hiatus which is a shame for both the Classic and X fans, and only StH & Universe seem to have a light at the end of the tunnel with the Unleashed adaptation getting back on track, and the Silver Age sounding interesting so far.

I think... to put it as a metaphor, if WC was Resident Evil 4, then WU is feeling like Resident Evil 5, in danger of turning out as Resident Evil 6. It's just... kinda sad.

Sunwalker reacted to Spin Attaxx in Mighty No.9 - New Inafune title!
Thing is though, Bayonetta has an identity of its own outside of what it reminds people of. The series can stand on its own even in a vacuum devoid of Devil May Cry, and it pretty much tries (and succeeds) in being its own thing.

Mighty No. 9 (and Red Ash), however, seem to be entirely banking on being "hey, we're Mega Man except not". And it's not just the gameplay that's similar, there's also the setup - robots go mad and one good scientist creates a blue robot that can copy powers to go after them? And he has a sister who wears red? We're totally not Mega Man you guys! The characters too - Beck and Call? Just like Rock and Roll? That raises some eyebrows. And the scientist is Dr. White... totally not Dr. Light/Right! Bear in mind, Bayonetta doesn't draw so much of her design from Dante as much as Beck does from Mega Man.

Red Ash is even guiltier - Beck and Call again, just like Mega Man and Roll in Legends? That guy with them totally isn't Tiesel Bonne? And their enemies are the Bones, which has a girl with a skull motif on her outfit and oh for fuck's sake Inafune are you even trying anymore with this shit?

Really, it looks more like Inafune's making a carbon copy of the Mega Man series so he can rail it towards his vision, but filing off the serial numbers and pretending it's something completely different. So yeah, he is replacing it. There's being a spiritual successor, and then there's just being shameless. This is definetly the latter - if you lack/forget all nostalgia for Mega Man, and look at this as its own series, does it hold up well? I'd say not, especially since the game looks rather lacking after asking for OVER $4 million. And there's this huge push to make it a massive franchise like Mega Man - a cartoon, a movie, god knows what next... and the game isn't even out yet.

TL;DR - Even if it's a successor to Mega Man, Inafune can stand to be more original with his ideas and give them identities and souls outside of what they're trying to imitate, and wait and see if your game's good before making a huge franchise out of it.

To end off this semi-rant I'm probably going to regret writing up later, a classic scene which is pretty much a perfect representation of what's going on now with this:

I actually don't think there's anything inherently wrong with releasing some merchandise before the thing is released. It actually seems to be a fairly common thing to do, and it could probably be a decent way to build up hype. It's just that for it to really have a point first you need a set release date and people already interested in the project. Neither of which Ken has.

Really, the patches or the phone cases could have been a smart move. They could have been used to gauge interest, and depending on what happens he could have acted accordingly (if they sold, make a couple more things, if they didn't, stop).  But, of course, that's not what happened.

There's not really any reason to believe he's only done one page. Yeah, we haven't seen any others, but he has no reasons to show us his completed images. The only reason he showed that one page was because it was supposed to be part of a free prequel.

If the guy had the idea that he'd have it done by Comic-Con, even if he missed that date, it seems extremely unlikely he has absolutely nothing done of the main book.

Sunwalker reacted to ProfessorZolo in RED ASH- Mega Man Legends Spiritual Successor?
    Y'know, honestly? I like this. I like Mighty No.9. I like Yooka-Laylee and Bloodstained.

I get that people might not. It's understandable. They want their favourite series to continue, not get replaced with like-for-like characters.

But for me, games like Red Ash are a chance to be part of something from the ground up, since I missed the original series' the first time around. By the time I got into Megaman, the series was just about dead. And Legends is bloody expensive to get hold of for a title I'm not sure I'll even enjoy. If they'd just put it on PSN or something... But that's another topic altogether.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I hope Inafune keeps going with these crazy endeavours.

...Just, maybe don't start planning movies before the game is even released. :V

"We're not gonna show you any gameplay what-so-ever so that you can get a clear idea on what you're paying for, but we're gonna show you all this cool concept art and tell you that we're already planning a anime series! Good? Great, now give us $815,000."

It seems like Comcept's main principle with Red Ash and Mighty No 9 is to advertise that it's basically Mega Man/Mega Man Legends again but different, but it's okay because the guy who helped design the main character of that series is on board. Mighty No 9 looks like a pretty mediocre game to be honest, but the fact that fans of Mega Man are already gonna shit money out of their asses for it because it's a slightly different Mega Man makes that fact much worse.

Hell, Mega Man's starting to make a comeback with that legacy collection coming out later this year, his new cartoon series in 2017 and the constant stream of Merchandise, but by the time that new cartoon series rolls round (alongside the likely tie-in game to go alongside the series), Mighty No 9 2 would of probably been released by then and people are gonna think that Mega Man is the fucking rip-off rather then Mighty No 9.

It's just become clear lately that Inafune doesn't care about delivering a successor to one of the most popular game series of the NES, he just wants a new Mega Man because that means he can merchandise the shit out of it and make money. I feel like Hideki Kamiya put it best.

here i've redesigned Sonic and friends for a little AU i called Skyline ... and that i'm doing just for fun.

i used a different Style, kinda chibi, cartoonish and CD-ish
Sonic's scarf is based on Sonic's emblem  patern .. with a ring and a wing at the end..

pretending this little dude is like a plane pilot and mail messenger...  that can run over the clouds..
ehhe that was me thinking about the greek messenger god, Hermes

i removed his peach tummy.. because i though.. if Sonic Boom has blue arms.. then this one can have blue belly

then next to him is Amy.. wich before i keep with this.... i have to say.. i wanted to not overuse the red .. so enstead i shoosed Pink for Amy 's clothes..
    her quills are more simple..

and her clothes are more like "sweet child" ish..

    and then we have
    Tails and the great Knux

Tails is wearing green..and his Tails are in wing shaped.. since i think he is like a little guardian angel..

then .. Knux... i like what i did with his head.. but not too much with the body... looks evil. wich.. its not the deal

maybe are the shoes....so.. i will change it later...

i still need to work on Eggman.. hehe he is the villain so he is important ..

Yeah, it's very odd for Ken to push apps when the book has yet to be released. Personally, the whole thing doesn't anger me. I just find everything up to this point to be incredibly perplexing. He's going about this completely the wrong way. I understand the need to generate buzz for your material, but there's no material on the market. There's no demand yet for any of these bells and whistles. That's why none of them have sold. He's doing everything backward. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Ken is far more interested in the idea of making money then creating material that stands the test of time. Everything about TL-SC feels like it was put together with only the most soulless intentions driving its creation. I just feel like the end result of all his effort will be a disposable form of creative expression with no real love poured into its production.

I don't want to attack Ken as a human being. I may not appreciate his antics, but he's still a human being with feelings and a family. I simply don't understand why he does all the stuff he's done for the whole world to see. I just find most of what he does to be truly baffling. The man is utterly fascinating to me.
