  1. I've never been able to get into traditional turn based RPGs but I'm definitely considering giving the original FF7 a shot after enjoying the remake so much

    1. Tornado

If you don't like turn based games the original Final Fantasy 7, especially the back half of the game, is absolutely not for you.

  2. Any of y'all play the Panzer Dragoon remake?

    1. neezTHEhuman

will do once i get a Switch despite its shortcomings. will also play Zwei once that gets released.

    2. Strickerx5

Waiting on the PC version honestly. The current Switch version seems too rough for my taste, almost to the point of being rushed. Just a lot of minor graphical issues from the looks of it.

    3. TCB

      Not yet

  3. Seems like just about everyone on Twitter is convinced we're getting a new Sonic game this year. I can't help but feel like they'll be disappointed.

    1. JosepHenry

maybe not this year, but if you say that we are not getting anything on the event announcement they had to delay... well....

    2. E-van

I could totally see there being some sort of teaser for a 2021 game but I just don't think a game will actually release this year with the 30th anniversary right around the corner.

    3. JosepHenry

      Oh, I agree.

  4. Can't wait for the Sonic Direct

    1. Milo

no game reveals, sonic only, final destination: june 23rd (for the next announcement)

  5. So if Mania is canon, does that also mean the super emeralds are canon?

    1. Betz

Super Emeralds have been canon due to 3&K being canon.

    2. Your Vest Friend
    3. Diogenes

      the super emerald-shaped-rocks are canon

    4. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

      Everything is canon

      Nothing is canon

The true canon was inside you all along

    5. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

      @Diogenes is right.

It was handwave that those are stone relics created after the Chaos Emeralds return to the Special Stage dimension. Which further supports the headcanon that the CEs got their new shape from fusing with the SEs.

    6. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

      No this is Canon

    7. Betz

      no this is canon

    8. Ferno

      these are cannons

    9. blueblur98

      this is a cannon

  6. I'm like 99.9% sure they're gonna announce a Chao Garden mobile game at SXSW. It just seems like such an obvious opportunity.

    1. Big Panda

      Big Panda

It is an obvious thing to do.

Which is exactly why they won’t.

    2. E-van

      That is a fair point

    3. Polkadi~☆

It's been an obvious opportunity for years.

  7. Olive Garden

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

    2. Strickerx5

we dont deserve their endless bread sticks

yet they grace us with them anyway

    3. Polkadi~☆

is this some sort of american thing i'm too australian to understand

    4. The Master

      The Master

It is an Italian restaurant chain in America @Polkadi~☆. It also gets a large product placement in the Sonic Movie.

    5. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

At this rate, Sonic Team will make a new good 3D Sonic before they ever let him be a sponser for the Sonic Drive-In resturant.

    6. Polkadi~☆

I know it's in the Sonic movie, and I even openly mocked it. But once again with Hollywood self-centredness, that product placement works nowhere else but America.

    7. AdventChild

And yet they still can't get Sonic Drive-In product ties?

  8. God damn the new data battles in KH3 are a ton of fun once you get the hang of them. Only ones I didn't care for were Xehanort and Vanitas.

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

I honestly really disagree, I'm not finding these fun at all, and I've completed all of them on KH2FM.

Larxene is fine enough, even if her desperation is a pain, but the rest, I'm really fucking hating how perfect you have to be. KH2 at least had Second Chance/Once More work properly, KH3 has superbosses who can not only spam to a ridiculous degree, but actively break it. Saix, and Ansem especially is notorious for that bullshit, especially Saix since he can stun you.

  9. Air Dash > Double Jump

    1. Strickerx5

I agree honestly. The air dash promotes more forward movement and maintaining flow rather than the double jump which is basically just a double check.

    2. StaticMania

If Sonic had a proper double jump, I wonder if this would still be the feeling...

    3. E-van

I mean, I certainly wouldn't complain if they gave Sonic a better double jump but I still feel the air dash is much more fitting for typical Sonic gameplay.

    4. Sean

Something I wish they'd bring back is the curved air dash from SA1 and 2, having it go in a straight line in the boost games (and 06) really bugs me

    5. Tarnish

What @Sean said. The "modern" air dash not only makes no sense, it's completely useless. Sonic goes like 5 feet forward in a 100% straight line, then loses 100% of his momentum and falls straight down like a rock. You miss platforms you should easily reach no problem.

Who made that, why weren't they fired, who approved that, and why wasn't that person fired as well? I think if this was in any other game, everyone would laugh their ass off at this amateur hour execution.

And if anyone wants to say "Well, just use boost midair", good luck not overshooting with that shit.

  10. I ended up buying Virtua Racing, Celeste, and Freedom Planet in the eshop sale. I've been particularly interested in trying Freedom Planet so it's nice to have that now.

    1. Sean

      Celeste is phenomenal

  11. It's sort of an interesting thought that I really only dislike 3 of the mainline console Sonic Team games, and 2 out of those 3 were released within the last 7 years...

  12. Why does Sonic Forces feel like it was developed on a budget of $5

    1. Strickerx5

It's a game that, by most accounts, only had about a year in full development.

    2. Milo

It's a game that, by most accounts, only had a combined total of $5 spread out in all of those accounts

    3. The Master

      The Master

I dunno, I feel they probably spent a lot more because they got the London Symphony Orchestra. Thats where all the money went.

    4. Ferno

big portions of the money went into the HE2 as well, but the lackluster art direction really distracted from all the improvements that the HE2 brought in

    5. Sean

Sega buried most of Forces's budget somewhere in the Nevada desert and there are cryptic clues within the game itself that point to its location

    6. Ferno

"you want our budget? we've left every penny that could've gone into the game in the desert- now you've just got to put the clues together and find it! Use the money to make your own damn game since you're all so smart!"

    7. Sean

-We Are starts playing in the distance-

    8. The Master

      The Master

Well it fits the Sonic Twitter's M.O, leaving dumb clues.

    9. Ferno

*sonic fans heading to the desert to snag the money first, each having very different ideas on their ideal sonic game and whoever finds it will get to make their ideal game the standard for the series moving forward*

    10. E-van

Sonic Schoolhouse 2 is the 30th anniversary game confirmed

    11. Thigolf

Sega still hiring the London Symphony Orchestra while skimping out on basically everything else is still the most amazing thing

      Like why

  13. Oof the latest news article is one long ass reach. We don't even know the leaked audio files are real or not, let alone it suggesting an SA remake/port.

    1. Tracker_TD

Yeah I found it kind of strange that TSS went for the super-reachy clickbaity post (and then got uppity about it on Twitter) whereas TSSZ did actual analysis of the clips and while they had a kind of sensationalised headline, they were a tad more rational about what it might actually be

      welcome to bizarro world

    2. Blacklightning

For real. I thought Sonic Stadium was above this.

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

All this just after posting a hot take on that the movie design is somehow the best design ever.

Ladies and gents, welcome to The Pits. Enjoy your stay.

    4. TCB

      2020 is weird already

    5. Tracker_TD

I think whoever got handed the keys to the Twitter today needs a hug

    6. TCB

Wow someone running the TSS Twitter in that convo there sounds like they got worked, brother

    7. E-van

Yeah this whole thing is very odd and out of character to me.

    8. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

Oh so that's why everyone is talking about SA1 for some reason

    9. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Incredible. Just begging to give this website a bad name again, all at our expense.

    10. Sean

      This is embarrassing

    11. Polkadi~☆

Sonic Adventure Music Experience (what an exhausting name) planning another concert is nothing new. But this much with it? We need to temper our expectations and look at what we actually know.

Taking the thing and running a mile with rumours is not the appropriate response.

    12. Kuzu

      Is Dreadknux ok?

    13. Ferno

I know traffic to the forum (and I assume the site too) have slowed down a ton, but I wonder if these are well-intentioned but not-well-executed attempts at getting people to pour in here again

    14. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

Yeah, I really am pretty disappointed. I expect better from TSS.

    15. Dreadknux

Hi. Our story was based on TSSZ’s initial article, plus additional tips that were sent to both us and TSSZ. We felt there was legitimacy to report on TSSZ’s article based on their findings. We often report on rumours and speculation if the source believes they have good grounding for it, and it was the case with TSSZ here.

We misspoke here on Twitter, but we have noticed a distinct lack of people reading our articles (and we have the stats to prove it), and so we mistakenly went on the defensive here. Apologies, it’s not how we usually do things as you all know, and you expect better.

Our 20 year history is rife with under-appreciation of our work and subtweeting us from both the online Sonic community at large and other community websites, and so our defensive approach here was coming from the position of being attacked. We should have rose above it. We didn’t this time. So I’m sorry. It won’t happen again! x

  14. The next 3D Sonic game seriously needs to be an actual 3D Sonic game imo. Pretty damn tired of the games being 80% 2D.

    1. Polkadi~☆

I want this more than anything. Sure, it was a cool little thing back with Unleashed, but the series started relying on it more and more. I’m convinced it’s a crutch for poor controls, because Sonic doesn’t play the best in 3D spaces of boost games.

    2. Soniman

Ive heard people ask this for nearly 10 years so I don't think it's gonna change

    3. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Obligatory mention of the fact that even the 3D sections of the boost games are more like 1D.

    4. Blacklightning

      Preaching to the choir there.

    5. buranflakes

  15. One of these days I need to sit down and git gud at Mega Man

    1. Sean

I recommend playing some of the easier games first like 5, 6, or 8, and then working towards the more popular games like 2, 3, and 4. If you really want to play through all of classic, save 1 for until you get better at them. And just pretend that Rockman & Forte doesn't fucking exist whatsoever.

  16. Shenmue is an experience

  17. Colors is fun.

There is way too much 2D block platforming and the cutscene dialogue is painful but it's still enjoyable enough.

  18. Maximum comfy

  19. I bought an awesome looking clear pink Game Boy Advance today. Any game recommendations?

    1. Sean

      Drill Dozer

    2. Adamabba

      Hamtaro Rainbow Rescue

    3. Red

      Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak

    4. Menace2Society

      Mother 3.

Get a reproduction cart, or just buy the untranslated cart. Either way, play it.

    5. Zaysho

Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is a nice and different type of RPG if you've never played it.

    6. Strong Guy
    7. Sean

also Sonic Pinball Party is a solid pinball game with great ball physics and enjoyable Sonic/Nights board design

    8. E-van

I definitely wanna try the Sonic Advance games since they're some of the very few Sonic games I've never played and they look pretty fun. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

    9. Polkadi~☆

Drill Dozer, the Mega Man Battle Network series, and the Mega Man Zero series.

    10. dbzfan7

      Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland/Amazing mirror.

      Castlevania Aria of Sorrow

Super Mario World (Yeah it looks worse than SNES but you do get to play as both Mario and Luigi)

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure/Legacy 2/Buu's Fury.

    11. Maxtiis

Final Fantasy V, VI, Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Golden Sun 1 & 2, Castlevanias (just any of them), Sonic Advance 1-3, TLOZ: Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Ninja Five-O (good luck getting this one legit), Fire Emblem Blazing Sword (just called Fire Emblem in the States), Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Wario Land 4, Advance Wars, Gunstar Super Heroes, Mega Man Zero 1-4.

Y'know, just to name a few.

    12. Sean

It might be worth mentioning that the Mega Man Zero games are better experienced in the DS collection - you can remap controls to a limited extent, get access to Zero 3's e-Reader features, and even hear the Japanese ending theme for Zero 4 which was removed from international releases. Whether or not the upcoming Switch/PS4 Zero and ZX collection will hold up remains to be seen considering the horrible input lag that X Legacy Collection suffers from, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with the DS version. It's just four games but it's the best Mega Man collection ever made.

    13. The Deleter

      The Deleter

      Metroid Fusion for sure

  20. Lost World or Forces, which one would y'all rather play?

    1. Sean

I enjoy SLW a lot aside from a few of the levels being total duds, so easy choice there

    2. Ryannumber1gamer

Forces. Lost World wears out it's welcome by the end of World 2.

    3. Big Panda

      Big Panda

      Forces by a mile.

    4. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Forces if I just want a casual Sonic romp to run through, Lost World if I want something with engaging gameplay

    5. E-van

Yeah Lost World is alright for the first couple zones but man it drops off a cliff as the game goes on.

    6. Menace2Society

Lost World atleast tried to do something new, instead of being an massively water ed-down formula perfected two games prior.

    7. Dr. Detective Mike

      Dr. Detective Mike

Lost World is probably a better and more complete game. However, Forces is easier to play both for quick bursts of the typical Sonic gameplay and mostly to mess around with when it comes to some of the Avatar stuff. Plus, as minor as it is, I do like hearing the other characters speak in the levels.

    8. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

      Sonic 3D Blast

    9. E-van

@Indigo Rush You know what you're right

    10. Red

Forces. I like the Avatar gameplay.

    11. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

      Forces. Not even a contest.

Despite everything, I find some enjoyment in Forces. Mainly with the Avatar.

Just the MENTION of Lost World makes me mad about the time and money I wasted on it.

    12. Radiant Hero Ike

      Radiant Hero Ike

Forces, Shadow is in it AND playable in some stages 😄

I do like some of the stages in Lost World though

    13. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Tbh I've never understood how Lost World is supposed to get worse as time goes on, since basically all the 3D stages plus some of the more platformer-centric 2D ones were more fun and elaborate than the first few, and give more purpose to the parkour as time went on.

Unless we're talking about the 3DS version. That version can jump off a cliff for all I care.

    14. Jango

Why not throw both in trash?

    15. Polkadi~☆

Maybe it's because I played it on PC with the pisspoor optimisation, but I still know what I played, and Lost World isn't fun.

  21. I think I genuinely enjoy Sonic's personality in the movie trailer more than any of the games since 2010 and I'm not sure how to feel about that

    1. dbzfan7

I said the same. It's because for me it's more sincere and not cynical.

    2. Lord-Dreamerz

I actually enjoy the idea of Sonic being hyperactive and excited to experience everything in life. In the games I haven't been a fan of Modern Sonic's personality starting from Sonic Heroes & anything afterwards.

  22. Was playing some Sonic Forces Speed Battle and played against someone with the name of "MAGA Nation '20"

    ...Really? Why?

    1. BlueSpeedster

To make Sonic fans support Doof Failure?

      Which will backfire, trust me.

  23. Crazy how Generations is 8 years old now. I still find it to be a really enjoyable game and easily beats anything that came after it that's not named Mania.

    1. Jango

That is correct. The only tangent is Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed.

  24. New Movie Sonic doesn't look horrifying so it's automatically an improvement.

  25. tfw Sonic 3 had an episodic release 16 years before Sonic 4

    1. PC the Hedgehog

      PC the Hedgehog

One thing I did like about Sonic 4 was how when Episode II came out, the Episode Metal DLC felt like sort of a pseudo-lock-on thing like Sonic 3/and Knuckles had. I was kind of hoping Episode III would have continued that trend.
