  1. Air Dash > Double Jump

    1. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

I agree honestly. The air dash promotes more forward movement and maintaining flow rather than the double jump which is basically just a double check.

    2. StaticMania

      StaticMania

If Sonic had a proper double jump, I wonder if this would still be the feeling...

    3. E-van

      E-van

I mean, I certainly wouldn't complain if they gave Sonic a better double jump but I still feel the air dash is much more fitting for typical Sonic gameplay.

    4. Sean

      Sean

Something I wish they'd bring back is the curved air dash from SA1 and 2, having it go in a straight line in the boost games (and 06) really bugs me

    5. Tarnish

      Tarnish

What @Sean said. The "modern" air dash not only makes no sense, it's completely useless. Sonic goes like 5 feet forward in a 100% straight line, then loses 100% of his momentum and falls straight down like a rock. You miss platforms you should easily reach no problem.

Who made that, why weren't they fired, who approved that, and why wasn't that person fired as well? I think if this was in any other game, everyone would laugh their ass off at this amateur hour execution.

And if anyone wants to say "Well, just use boost midair", good luck not overshooting with that shit.

  2. I ended up buying Virtua Racing, Celeste, and Freedom Planet in the eshop sale. I've been particularly interested in trying Freedom Planet so it's nice to have that now.

    1. Sean

      Sean

      Celeste is phenomenal

  3. It's sort of an interesting thought that I really only dislike 3 of the mainline console Sonic Team games, and 2 out of those 3 were released within the last 7 years...

  4. Why does Sonic Forces feel like it was developed on a budget of $5

    1. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

It's a game that, by most accounts, only had about a year in full development.

    2. Milo

      Milo

It's a game that, by most accounts, only had a combined total of $5 spread out in all of those accounts

    3. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

I dunno, I feel they probably spent a lot more because they got the London Symphony Orchestra. Thats where all the money went.

    4. Ferno

      Ferno

big portions of the money went into the HE2 as well, but the lackluster art direction really distracted from all the improvements that the HE2 brought in

    5. Sean

      Sean

Sega buried most of Forces's budget somewhere in the Nevada desert and there are cryptic clues within the game itself that point to its location

    6. Ferno

      Ferno

"you want our budget? we've left every penny that could've gone into the game in the desert- now you've just got to put the clues together and find it! Use the money to make your own damn game since you're all so smart!"

Sega still hiring the London Symphony Orchestra while skimping out on basically everything else is still the most amazing thing

      Like why

  5. Oof the latest news article is one long ass reach. We don't even know the leaked audio files are real or not, let alone it suggesting an SA remake/port.

    1. Tracker_TD

      Tracker_TD

Yeah I found it kind of strange that TSS went for the super-reachy clickbaity post (and then got uppity about it on Twitter) whereas TSSZ did actual analysis of the clips and while they had a kind of sensationalised headline, they were a tad more rational about what it might actually be

      welcome to bizarro world

For real. I thought Sonic Stadium was above this.

Sonic Adventure Music Experience (what an exhausting name) planning another concert is nothing new. But this much with it? We need to temper our expectations and look at what we actually know.

Taking the thing and running a mile with rumours is not the appropriate response.

I know traffic to the forum (and I assume the site too) have slowed down a ton, but I wonder if these are well-intentioned but not-well-executed attempts at getting people to pour in here again

Yeah, I really am pretty disappointed. I expect better from TSS.

Hi. Our story was based on TSSZ’s initial article, plus additional tips that were sent to both us and TSSZ. We felt there was legitimacy to report on TSSZ’s article based on their findings. We often report on rumours and speculation if the source believes they have good grounding for it, and it was the case with TSSZ here.

We misspoke here on Twitter, but we have noticed a distinct lack of people reading our articles (and we have the stats to prove it), and so we mistakenly went on the defensive here. Apologies, it’s not how we usually do things as you all know, and you expect better.

Our 20 year history is rife with under-appreciation of our work and subtweeting us from both the online Sonic community at large and other community websites, and so our defensive approach here was coming from the position of being attacked. We should have rose above it. We didn’t this time. So I’m sorry. It won’t happen again! x

  6. The next 3D Sonic game seriously needs to be an actual 3D Sonic game imo. Pretty damn tired of the games being 80% 2D.

    1. Polkadi~☆

      Polkadi~☆

I want this more than anything. Sure, it was a cool little thing back with Unleashed, but the series started relying on it more and more. I’m convinced it’s a crutch for poor controls, because Sonic doesn’t play the best in 3D spaces of boost games.

    2. Soniman

      Soniman

Ive heard people ask this for nearly 10 years so I don't think it's gonna change

    3. Blue Blood

Obligatory mention of the fact that even the 3D sections of the boost games are more like 1D.

    1. Sean

      Sean

I recommend playing some of the easier games first like 5, 6, or 8, and then working towards the more popular games like 2, 3, and 4. If you really want to play through all of classic, save 1 for until you get better at them. And just pretend that Rockman & Forte doesn't fucking exist whatsoever.

  8. Shenmue is an experience

  9. Colors is fun.

There is way too much 2D block platforming and the cutscene dialogue is painful but it's still enjoyable enough.

  10. Maximum comfy

      Castlevania Aria of Sorrow

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure/Legacy 2/Buu's Fury.

    11. Maxtiis

      Maxtiis

Final Fantasy V, VI, Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Golden Sun 1 & 2, Castlevanias (just any of them), Sonic Advance 1-3, TLOZ: Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Ninja Five-O (good luck getting this one legit), Fire Emblem Blazing Sword (just called Fire Emblem in the States), Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Wario Land 4, Advance Wars, Gunstar Super Heroes, Mega Man Zero 1-4.

Y'know, just to name a few.

    12. Sean

      Sean

It might be worth mentioning that the Mega Man Zero games are better experienced in the DS collection - you can remap controls to a limited extent, get access to Zero 3's e-Reader features, and even hear the Japanese ending theme for Zero 4 which was removed from international releases. Whether or not the upcoming Switch/PS4 Zero and ZX collection will hold up remains to be seen considering the horrible input lag that X Legacy Collection suffers from, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with the DS version. It's just four games but it's the best Mega Man collection ever made.

    2. Ryannumber1gamer

Forces. Lost World wears out it's welcome by the end of World 2.

    3. Big Panda

      Forces by a mile.

    4. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Forces if I just want a casual Sonic romp to run through, Lost World if I want something with engaging gameplay

    5. E-van

      E-van

Yeah Lost World is alright for the first couple zones but man it drops off a cliff as the game goes on.

    6. Menace2Society

      Menace2Society

Lost World atleast tried to do something new, instead of being an massively water ed-down formula perfected two games prior.

    7. Dr. Detective Mike

      Dr. Detective Mike

Lost World is probably a better and more complete game. However, Forces is easier to play both for quick bursts of the typical Sonic gameplay and mostly to mess around with when it comes to some of the Avatar stuff. Plus, as minor as it is, I do like hearing the other characters speak in the levels.

      Forces. Not even a contest.

Despite everything, I find some enjoyment in Forces. Mainly with the Avatar.

Just the MENTION of Lost World makes me mad about the time and money I wasted on it.

    12. Radiant Hero Ike

      Radiant Hero Ike

Forces, Shadow is in it AND playable in some stages 😄

I do like some of the stages in Lost World though

    13. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Tbh I've never understood how Lost World is supposed to get worse as time goes on, since basically all the 3D stages plus some of the more platformer-centric 2D ones were more fun and elaborate than the first few, and give more purpose to the parkour as time went on.

Unless we're talking about the 3DS version. That version can jump off a cliff for all I care.

    14. Jango

      Jango

Why not throw both in trash?

    15. Polkadi~☆

      Polkadi~☆

      Forces.

Maybe it's because I played it on PC with the pisspoor optimisation, but I still know what I played, and Lost World isn't fun.

  13. I think I genuinely enjoy Sonic's personality in the movie trailer more than any of the games since 2010 and I'm not sure how to feel about that

    1. dbzfan7

      dbzfan7

I said the same. It's because for me it's more sincere and not cynical.

    2. Lord-Dreamerz

      Lord-Dreamerz

I actually enjoy the idea of Sonic being hyperactive and excited to experience everything in life. In the games I haven't been a fan of Modern Sonic's personality starting from Sonic Heroes & anything afterwards.

      Which will backfire, trust me.

  15. Crazy how Generations is 8 years old now. I still find it to be a really enjoyable game and easily beats anything that came after it that's not named Mania.

    1. Jango

      Jango

That is correct. The only tangent is Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed.

  16. New Movie Sonic doesn't look horrifying so it's automatically an improvement.

  17. tfw Sonic 3 had an episodic release 16 years before Sonic 4

    1. PC the Hedgehog

      PC the Hedgehog

One thing I did like about Sonic 4 was how when Episode II came out, the Episode Metal DLC felt like sort of a pseudo-lock-on thing like Sonic 3/and Knuckles had. I was kind of hoping Episode III would have continued that trend.

  18. I think the avatar gameplay in Forces would've been a lot more interesting if you could switch between a few different wispons on the fly during a stage.

    1. Perkilator

      Perkilator

Maybe two Wispons at a time?

Good lord that would get extremely annoying.

Or is that dual wielding I'm thinking of?

    3. E-van

      E-van

Two or three would be ideal, yeah.

    4. Sean

      Sean

I went into this game fully expecting to switch wisps mid-level, so I was surprised that it wasn't the case

    5. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

My idea is more akin to Mega Man's weapon system, with a transforming gun similar to Whisper's Variable Wispon. Your start out with a basic, short ranged projectile (it looks like the White Wisp gun used by background NPCs) but can collect different wisps to obtain more powerful abilities with limited use. Each one has a different amount of uses depending on the Wisp, for instance, a Cube wispon could be used a dozen times before needing to recharge, while the OP Void can only be used once. The special action is also available with the wispon upgrade you've got, and depletes the gauge more than the regular action.

    6. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

Imagine if they had the means to dual-wield wispons. Double the LASER! DRILL! effects for extra irritation!

    7. Celestia

      Celestia

I guess you can technically do that with the rental Avatar feature...thing. I'm not sure how it works but I've seen it in videos, in particular the GDQ speedrun.

  19. Hope the PS5 has some solid launch titles. PS4's library was pretty weak until it was a year or two in.

  20. A proper new Crazy Taxi would be pretty sick

  21. Had so much going on in the last few weeks that I totally forgot TSR comes out in just a few days. Should be pretty fun.

  22. Pretty excited to see how KH3 critical mode is. Hope it's a lot better than the other Osaka games.

  23. Video game music > Everything else

    1. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

No not really. You really need to expand your horizons more.

      It builds personality.

    2. The Deleter

      The Deleter

The way it can combine with the experience of the game itself will always be the pinnacle of the art form to me... but video game music started with what came before most of the time, and the more I listen to, the more I realize I was kinda limiting myself with this line of thought tbh. The vertical slice it offers of music genres is by all means fantastic, but you can do a lot better if you listen around long enough, not gonna lie

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

You know, I feel a big reason why I could remember more music from games than music from movies, especally newer games and films is that games usually have you hear a song play over and over in a level or two until you finish it, so it's easier for them to get stuck in my head.

  24. Ok but DID YOU KNOW Sonic 06 was bad???

    3. Diogenes

      Diogenes

      i expect sa3 before an sa remake, and i don't expect sa3

really though i just don't know how they could even approach an sa remake. you can't do a straight faithful remake...it would be terrible. but then how do you fix it while still being true to how weird, experimental, and scattershot it was?

    4. Indigo Rush

      Indigo Rush

Not especially. I wouldn't be awestruck, but I'm not betting on it. I think it's a bit more likely we'll see Adventure-esque games with Nishiyama-san back, in a position of influence to boot.

    5. Ratcicle King

      Ratcicle King

      I sure hope not
