I agree with him on a lot of points. CD, IMO, has far and away the worst level design of any 2D game. It's like the level designers were drunk and just threw stuff on the screen.

It's always sad to me watching people bash CD and the original as much as they do. As one is my personal favorite and defines Sonic to me and the other is still to me the most genius in its gameplay design of any game in the franchise, seeing people have no appreciation for them or seeing some of eth things hat make them so amazing is just disheartening. Oh well, I guess that's the way it goes.

Well this guy seems to favor Sonic 1's level design. Me personally, I would rather play through Sonic 1 since there is no need to do the special stages due to no Super Sonic. The checkpoint system in Sonic 2 kinda sucks (you have to scour levels for enough rings and then hunt down a checkpoint all without getting hit, versus just grabbing enough rings on the way to the goal) and the special stages themselves suck more. Between the classics I easily play Sonic 2 the least. For me it's mostly 1 and 3&K, mixing it up with some Cd now and again.

“Sonic CD feels like a Sonic special stage turned into a full game.”

God, that’s just the perfect description right there.

I don’t think there’s a single thing I disagree with in this video. CD is a game that had a lot of killer ideas, especially for the time, but its levels are simply terrible imo.

Agreed. I cannot stand CD, which isn't too surprising when even Sonic 1 and 2 drive me up a wall from a level design viewpoint. CD is the very definition of style over substance for me. Tons of cool ideas, awful execution, especially the levels, which have good ideas for themes, but are just so awfully designed.
