As an outsider who doesn't play or follow Mega Man, I thought that MM9 was quite well regarded? And that MM10 is the one that fans didn't like, because it repeating the same nostalgia pandering schtick.

9/10 Imo are good games that do what they set out to well. 10 being more of the same isnt a huge deal when it's still good Imo. The only glaring issues is some cheap nes difficult at times and slide/charge shot being axed because "mega man 2 didn't have them", which is really stupid logic as it's like making Sonic Mania without the drop dash OR spin dash

MM9 is okay but I think it exaggerates how bullshit annoying and frustrating the NES games got in their level design. Usually those "gotcha!" moments you can't see coming were in the earlier titles before the devs got better at making levels, but 9 abuses them so much it borders on self-parody.

10 seemed to dial down on those moments, although I wasn't interested in the game enough to finish it.

It's actually very well done and I'm a big fan of the robot masters and the excellent soundtrack, but the difficulty is pretty brutal, like a cariacture of the past games. I'm not sure why they stripped back Megaman's move set so much to make it like Megaman 2, either...

The problem for me is I like a lot about the game. The RM line, weapons, music and stage themes are my favourite in the entire series I think, tied with MM1 and 2's lineups for me. But the flanderisation of difficulty kills the game for me. It feels frustrating to play more than it feels fun to me.

As someone who prefers MM4-6 over MM1-3 there's not as much reason for me to go back to 9 lol. I was glad that 11 reels back in the difficulty even if there's still a few fucking horrible design choices like the spike-filled watertunnels in Acid Man's stage.

11 problem is that it's so bare of content and you wish there was DLC or SOMETHING for it.

Also doesn't MM9 have an easy difficultly?

      No. MM10 does.

Are you playing the collection version? Doesn't it have a thing where you can reverse your actions like right before you lose a life?

Mega Man 9 is my least favorite game in the franchise only behind 1 and MM&B and on a bad day 4. The best way I could describe is imagine Sonic Mania without any of the QOL changes future games made. No spin dash, instant shield, no elemental shields etc it was just Sonic as he was in the original title. and the cheapest level design that will even make dimps call foul play. That's what 9 is to the Mega Man series.

@Pelvic WOO! engine That's only in the first Legacy Collection (MM1-6). The second collection doesn't have a rewind feature, so there's no way around MM9's more bullshit parts.

I still struggle to see why 9 was so beloved when it first launched. I'll gladly play MM10 over it any day of the week.
