  1. This is SO good. I wasn't expecting this at all, and it's one of the most pleasant surprises ever. Definitely one of my top favorite remixes in the game, without a doubt.
  2. Don't know if this has been spotted yet or not, but even the Werehog is a spirit. If nothing else, there will definitely be no shortage of Sonic-related spirits in Ultimate.
  3. Yeah, the whole blurry image aspect is where I'm kind of torn. On one hand, supposedly this wasn't even meant to be presented as any sort of leak and was just a random Snapchat video sent to a friend, and there just happened to be something that wasn't meant to be seen in the background, and the friend was only able to get those low-quality screenshots from the video, which would completely explain the blurriness and everything if this were the case. On the other hand, if this were fake, passing it off as a screenshot from a Snapchat video that's no longer available would be the perfect reasoning for the picture being so blurry and low-quality (which I'm sure would make the image itself a whole lot easier to Photoshop to look like a real thing). I don't know anymore. I think I'm still staying neutral on this, but, I still really want this to be real. I'll just have to keep tempering my excitement in case this does turn out to be fake. Also, yeah, if this is real, I would feel really bad for Sakurai and his team. I know how much he hates leaks, and considering how major this is, it must be tearing him apart if it's all legitimate. :/
  4. Oh man, what a thing to wake up to. I don't want to get my hopes up too much, because if this does somehow end up being fake then I'd be really disappointed. So I'll remain cautiously optimistic about this being legit. I'm trying to temper my excitement, but oh man, I really want this to be true. Especially since I was only expecting one or two characters left.

  6. Perhaps, but I'd much rather be pleasantly surprised by getting a lot more newcomers after expecting only one or two, than be disappointed by getting only one or two more newcomers after expecting a lot. I don't know, I just can't help but feel like that quote means we really aren't getting much more. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be proven wrong here. I'm just going to temper my expectations for now and not expect too many more newcomers.
  7. Woah, lots of new Metal Sonic stuff up on the SEGA Shop! I'm definitely going to be making some purchases here...

  8. Yeesh, quite a negative reception here towards the Isabelle announcement. o_o Am I the only one who's genuinely really happy about this? I'm a massive Animal Crossing fan, so yeah, I'm a bit biased I suppose, but with her massive popularity in recent years, I figured she was an obvious choice. Oh well, anyway, yay Isabelle! That was by far the most adorable Smash trailer ever, as I expected it would be. And hey, no one died this time!
  9. New Famitsu article! This one is all about music and the process of reaching out to composers, selecting which songs to remix, etc. Definitely worth checking out. https://sourcegaming.info/2018/09/05/no-such-thing-as-bad-music-in-a-great-game-sakurais-famitsu-column-vol-562/ A few key points: If Sakurai visited Sega directly, that makes me more hopeful for finally getting some new Sonic remixes. Even though he doesn't say directly, I think we all know a certain series specifically that he's referring to, especially considering that the Final Fantasy series was still shown to have only two songs in the recent Smash Direct.
  10. I really like that take on the SMB3 boss theme. It's definitely one of my favorite remixes that has been shown off so far; right up there with Gang-Plank Galleon and Vega Stage.
  11. This is awesome! I was not expecting this at all, but it's one of my most pleasant surprises in a long time. Streets of Rage 2 was one of my favorite games from the early '90s (probably my favorite Genesis/Mega Drive title that doesn't involve a blue hedgehog), so seeing it come back after all this time is just great. Definitely looking forward to this.
  12. That's right, I completely forgot about that. I was trying to consider games from all of Sonic's history when coming up with my "dream track list", but I completely spaced on Sonic Lost World, which will obviously get music representation considering there's a stage from that game in Ultimate. Realistically, I'm expecting the song list from the Sonic series in Ultimate to be pretty similar to Smash Wii U's, but part of me is still hoping that they'll have a bit more level music covered this time.
  13. Yeah, I say this as a fan of Dragon Ball, but there's absolutely no way that Goku is getting in. I have doubts on whether Sora or Banjo & Kazooie would be able to make it in as well due to the crazy licensing situations that would be involved (both Square and Disney for Sora, and a direct competitor for B-K). Still not impossible for them, though. If anyone were able to make it happen, it would be Sakurai. So, I wanted to talk about music for a bit; specifically, about the series that this forum kind of revolves around. Thanks to the recent Super Smash Bros. Direct, we now know that Smash Ultimate will have 20 songs from the Sonic series totaling 42:49 in time, assuming there wasn't any more to be unlocked, which is a little bit more than we've gotten in the past. What do you all think we'll be getting? Do you think we'll finally get a new remix or two? Personally, I'm hoping for at least one new remix, if not more, considering that both Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani are confirmed to be doing music for the game. Also, I'm really hoping that there's a little more variety in the songs. As much as I like Crush 40, overall there were WAY too many vocal tracks in Smash Wii U and a severe lack of the amazing level music that the Sonic series is known for. My ideal song list from the Sonic series would be something along the lines of this: 1. Green Hill Zone (already confirmed) 2. Angel Island Zone (already confirmed) 3. Sonic Boom 4. Open Your Heart 5. Live & Learn 6. Studiopolis Zone 7. Sky Sanctuary Zone 8. Flying Battery Zone 9. Windy Valley: The Air 10. Speed Highway 11. Sunset Park: Act 3 12. Stardust Speedway “B” Mix (JP) 13. Rooftop Run 14. Escape from the City 15. Planet Wisp 16. Seaside Hill 17. Chaos Angel 18. Isolated Island 19. Sky Troops 20. Crisis City Not that I’m expecting the outcome to even be remotely like this, but, I’d just really like to see a wider range of games and genres covered.
  14. New Famitsu article! This one goes into details about stuff that was covered in the recent Direct. https://sourcegaming.info/2018/08/22/more-information-about-the-smash-direct-sakurais-famitsu-column-vol-561/ Even though I think this was already assumed, Sakurai confirms that King K. Rool was added after being very popular on the Smash Ballot. Apparently, multiple characters were chosen from this, which makes me very curious. Certain characters seemed to be more popular than others from different parts of the internet, so unfortunately it's impossible to know exactly what the final results of the Smash Ballot were like. I put in my vote for Dixie Kong, at least.
  15. Apparently Gregg Mayles, who gave King K. Rool his name when DKC was being developed, always intended for it to be "Kay Rool." I've always used "Kay Rool" myself, and I remember how thrown off I was when they were calling him "Kuh Rool" in the cartoon series, haha. I don't think any way of pronouncing it is wrong, though, and as Gregg says, everyone is free to have their version.
  16. I love seeing King K. Rool in action! I'm definitely looking forward to playing as him. Also, I just noticed that this game now has an official ESRB rating, thanks to the character videos that the official Smash page have been sharing on Facebook. So, it looks like this game successfully got through the ESRB rating process without being leaked like last time, which is a good thing even though part of me wishes that it didn't because I'm impatient and want to see more stuff.
  17. Yeah, I didn't realize it for a little while, but, it's back... Seems incredibly pointless with Green Hill Zone already in the game, and it drastically decreases the chances of getting another Sonic stage, but, umm, at least the new lighting makes the windmill look a lot nicer, I guess?
  18. New Famitsu article with Sakurai talking about reactions from E3, for those interested. https://sourcegaming.info/2018/07/18/vol559/ He emphasizes how glad he is that the message of "Everyone is Here" wasn't leaked. Understandably, he doesn't seem to think very highly of leakers. Haha, yeesh...
  19. Since I've been curious about this and could never hear it in any of the previous Smash videos from E3, I finally found a video where you can hear Sonic's victory theme. I don't think this had been confirmed yet; forgive me if it already has.

  21. I can completely understand wanting Waluigi in as a fighter and everything, but, really, I don’t see how anyone could say that the Mario series doesn’t already have enough representation in Smash. This is clearly a case of looking at what isn’t there instead of what is. Which, I know Smash fans are already kind of known for doing, but, jeez...
  22. Woah, cool. Wasn't expecting that. If Tomoya Ohtani is on board, then hopefully that's a good sign for getting some new Sonic remixes!
  23. While in most cases I dislike the Sonic games that are generally considered bad, my clear choice for this topic would be Sonic Heroes. While it may not be as absolutely loathed as other games in the series, its reception is mixed at best. I absolutely loved this game when it came out. I loved seeing Sonic and the others return to the surreal, classic-inspired environments after the realistic settings from the Adventure games, I enjoyed the team gameplay, the soundtrack is amazing, and I generally just had a really good time with the game. Even playing this more recently within the last few years, I can clearly see all of the many flaws that Sonic Heroes has, but, somehow I have no problem looking past them and enjoying the game to this day. Seaside Hill, Power Plant, and Egg Fleet are always my favorite levels to run through. The dialogue, however, is beyond terrible; probably the worst out of any game in the entire series. It made me cringe back in the day, and it just makes me cringe even harder now. You can all say all you want about Colors and Lost World with their lame "Baldy McNosehair" jokes, but I would gladly take that over Sonic Heroes' writing any day.
  24. My first party choice would definitely be Dixie Kong (I've even updated my signature to reflect this). DKC 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, so, I'd personally love the duo from that to be together in Smash. She could do quite a bit with her hair, I'd imagine. As for third party, that's a tough one. My personal pick would probably be NiGHTS, but, a more popular choice would be Banjo-Kazooie, so I'd probably go with that. Microsoft even seems to be on board with letting that happen. Also, the more I think about it, the more I think Shadow may actually have a chance of being Sonic's Echo Fighter after all. The way the Echo Fighters were given mention in the Direct makes it seem like we'll be getting a few more of them, as a way to please fan who want more characters without having to put in too much extra work to do so. Shadow would definitely make sense for Sonic's, especially with Knuckles now being an Assist Trophy. Another Echo Fighter I could definitely see happening would be Ken being an Echo Fighter of Ryu (which I would personally love if that does happen). Ugh, the wait for more info on this game is going to be brutal.
  25. Some Green Hill Zone footage. You can barely hear it, but I'm pretty sure the music playing is the Angel Island Zone remix, which I'm very glad is in the game again. Also, Knuckles still runs through the loop in the background, despite being an Assist Trophy now. That red dude can just be everywhere at once apparently.
