@Dejimon11 48 hours of tournament, if they go SSJ3, which they need to stand a chance they have 5 minutes to fight.
Btw here's a list of all options better than choosing fucking Freeza
-Future Trunks
-Goten/Trunks
-Yamcha
-Beerus dressed up as Monaka
-Monaka himself
-Mr. Satan
-Baby Pan
-Nappa
-Radditz
-Perfect Cell -

@Ratcicle King Yamaha? LOL NO we need Jackie Chun

@ThePrinceOfSaiyans Shin can use a timering, he's a Kaioshin after all, to get in touch with Trunks and ask him to come back, Gowasu was able to travel to Trunks' timeline, meaning he can use those to go to alternate timelines.
It won't even be problematic since Future Zen'O comes from the same timeline as Trunks so to complain about him would be to complain about Future Zen'O.

Arale is easily distracted.
@Ratcicle King I guess that would work.

Guys it makes total sense tho'.
Whoever wins the tournament will be condemning 7 universes.
They'll have Freeza win, this way it'll all be his fault.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the best Sonic game, period. Hell, I'd say it's the best platformer period.

At its core, I think people like the game because it balances Sonic's speed, platforming and exploration perfectly for much of its runtime. It gives you opportunities to whizz by with the camera struggling to keep up but at the same time it recognises that Sonic's speed isn't just about getting from A to B but is also a tool you use to explore more of the level.
The game also puts in an awful lot of effort into making each area feel like an environment rather than a video game level. It also manages to actually tell a pretty good story without any dialogue or being intrusive. The way each level transitions into the next makes the whole thing feel like an adventure rather than a series of stages being played in a particular order.

Every Sonic game since lacked "& Knuckles." COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!

It's all a matter of simplifying to controls. You'll always know what's going to happen when you hit any button. It avoids the possibility of confusion when you're travelling at speed.
It's also to do with balancing. The spin dash is meant to be a way of getting yourself moving again but the penalty is you need to stop to use it. That's to encourage the player to put the effort into maintaining their speed and flow on their own as much as they can since you don't normally want to stop.

Is it bad that I genuinely started chuckling when I saw that this status had seventeen replies :v
@Diamond From what I've read, it has been theorized that the classic Sonic games all use only one action button for almost every action for simplicity and as a contrast to Mario, which normally uses one button to jump and another button to run faster / use a powerup.
Depending on the character selected and if there are any shields being used, the action button alone can be used for:
- Jumping
- Insta-Shield
- Flying
- Gliding
- Air Dash (Flame Shield)
- Bouncing (Bubble Shield)
- Double Jump (Lightning Shield)
And when used with a directional input, you can do the Spin Dash (down) or Super Peel-Out (up).
It's worth noting Sonic 3D did change things up (A and C allowed you to jump, while B allowed you to roll when moving or spindash when standing still), but that's because of it's isometric design.
Personally I don't think it's too much of a problem until you get the Chaos / Super Emeralds, in which an accidental double jump causes you to transform. I will give Sonic 4 a very token acknowledgement of improvement by mapping Super transformations to a different button.
If they did make a new classic Sonic though, I wouldn't mind another button put up for use, at least regarding special actions with shields.

Ike, Arin should know the consequences of calling someone on the Internet out like that, especially someone with as many toady fans as him.
Even if the guy wasn't doxxed, for Arin to call him out because he himself doesn't understand how the game works- or, more accurately, doesn't care enough to do minimum research on a game before playing it- makes him look like an arrogant douchebag.
-
-
Yee. It's just that I've been seeing the term being thrown around everywhere lately. Don't mean to be rude; it's just something that I think needs adressing nowadays. : P
Also I feel I should bring up that Arin referring to him isn't all exaggerated hatred and contempt. He says the name of the guy, says the description which is basically "dedicated to *sweetheart* for *sweet saying*", then reads the post date which was like nine years ago, and then they say "I wonder if he ever got together with her?" and they both go awww
Idk maybe it's worth nothing but I don't think the episode was that bad
Him getting mad that there are emeralds in enemies still, now that's ridiculous

My Switch is more of a paperweight than my Wii U was TBH.
-
Seen this meme so much and I don't know what it's trying to say. It took the Wii u its entire lifespan to accrue that library, and nearly half of those switch games are new and in the first year. Also all the ports are at worst graphically enhanced, at best much expanded like mk8d.

So one console's stellar lineup that it slowly built up to across it's 5 year life overpowers it's more successful successor's lineup that is being built within 1 1/2 years?
That being said, I do agree that it feels like anyone who buys Wii U are being punished for supporting a dead console. Nintendo needs to work some serious magic at this E3, if they want to keep their lucky streak going.
-
@ThePrinceOfSaiyans I mean, people were willing to eat up the XBONE and the PS4 back at their launches and they had literally nothing worth actually owning so I can't really say this is all that surprising. To the switches benefit, even though it is mostly ports right now, at least they are good games from a generally good first party line up so I don't mind (though, if they pull more of the same crap that they did with DK:TF I might revoke that last statement).
-

Really? I mean yeah it hasn't got as big a roster of exclusives as PS4 but it has only been out a year and in that time we've had Odyssey, Arms, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, Kirby, plus cross gen BOTW. Plus it's got a much stronger base of 3rd party support. That's a dream year for any console let alone at launch. It kinda is hot shit.
Admittedly I don't like Arms at all but some do

See the difference is one failed and one didn’t. Can’t change that no matter how much you personally don’t see it’s worth. On top of that, Wii U had shit marketing which confused customers and lack of grabbing appeal to the major audiences.
-
The point is being missed is that the Switch at the moment is not looking to please Wii U owners who bought the Switch as well.
It's looking to please thoses Wii owners who they lost after the Wii U came out. Myself included.
That's why all these Wii U games are getting ported to give them new life again to those people they lost.

-
Clearly whoever made this picture hasn't been on enthusiast sites (like ERA) enough. There's a handful of complaints about the Switch's library being a sea of ports; especially so after the last Nintendo Direct from March (and by ports, I'm referring to both ports of existing Wii U games and ports of third-party games that have come out on other platforms a year or so after the fact).
-
Supah Berry reacted to this
-
@MegasonicZX tbf those systems had games guaranteed to come to them via 3rd parties regardless of launch, so there was still not that much fear regarding lack of games unlike, say, the vita or Wii U, which didn’t have much in its 3rd party support, and what it did get was rarely advertised. Plus PS4 had a good stream of indie games to keep people’s attention until the next big exclusive. A model Microsoft and Nintendo adopted
-
Relevant:
@Strickerx5 You basically consider all consoles that are not NES, Game Boy, and 3DS failures because they don't have KI games. You have the right to remain silent

@SupahBerryNah, those consoles get a pass because they were not enlightened by Sakurai's masterpiece at the time.
These two have no excuses.

Case re-closed.
(I still like my Wii U though ;_;)
-
I mean, no one bought a Wii U. I guess you can be salty about it, but it's not surprising that they'd try to sell their Wii U games to an actual audience.
-
-
@Tails spinI bought a Wii U, and I'm actually far more pleased with Switch than I was my Wii U. It's just better than the Wii U due to it actually doing the gimmick far better. And games that are ported generally have extras or better graphics and performance. I, for one, can't wait for Hyrule Warriors Definitive because it's the 3DS game that doesn't look and run like ass, along with the second season pass.
-
Yeah in all seriousness, as someone who has brought both systems at release, I have no problem in saying that the Switch has had a better first year than the entire lifespan of the Wii U and deserves the praise it's getting. Yeah, a lot of it is due to the leg work the Wii U did but that still doesn't change the fact that the output of games is far better than the first two years the Wii U was out and that it's actually succeeding with its gimmick to boot.
While I still think the Switch is a tablet with a slightly dated mobile gpu, it's still far more ahead of the curve than the Wii U was when it came out. Again, the Wii U was doing something that the other two big names had been doing for the better part of the decade at that point. As much as I harp on Nintendo and their low powered tech, at least they're capturing a market with the Switch that the other two simply weren't touching which, imo, is a smart move when you're that behind.
Add in that there are still quite a few games coming (simply going off the ones we know of) and, which really can't be stressed enough here, the system is still less than a year and a half old and simply put, it's no wonder that the Wii U has been left in the dust. Sucks for those with a Wii U (especially people who waited a bit for it), but that's just how business works.
-

The Switch has a better library than the Wii U ever got in general but that's because it has support from 3rd parties, some who never had a game on a Nintendo console before such as Milestone. This alone means that it got more racing games that the Wii U ever got (just an improved version of Need for Speed Most Wanted, Mario Kart 8 where you must buy the DLC otherwise you get a barebones game and Fast Racing Neo). Ironically Ubisoft who supported the Wii U until it got dropped off hasn't supported the Switch very well (e.g. Steep got cancelled, no Far Cry 5/Assassin's Creed Origins), similar thing for WB. Even EA hasn't done much on the Switch and so far even the Wii U got more games from them and that says something. I still wait a bit for more games and the cost to go down before getting a Switch. By the way, I tried to support the Wii U as best as I could, felt like a wasted effort... The Wii U does have games that the Switch won't get such as the Mario platformers and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
About the ports, a good thing for people who haven't played the games before but a bad thing for those who have the original game with some exceptions (e.g. Mario Ksrt 8 Deluxe is the version that should have been released). At least the Switch is getting a selected amount of ports rather than the PS4/Xbox One where it feels like its getting a "remaster" every month, now those feel like port machines with a couple of exclusives/online only games with PS4 at least still getting some Japanese developed games such as Yakuza. Even that was on the Wii U but sadly wasn't released in the West...

More originality, Knuckles' levels have more significant usage of his abilities in 3 beyond just Mirage Saloon Act K, Flying Battery was better designed in 3, a more fulfilling climax/ending, to name a few.
Of course Mania comes very close, and that's a hell of an achievement for a fan developed game seeking to live up to the reputation of a predecessor with two decades of hype fueling the desire for a faithful follow-up.
-
-
@Maxtiis those are very good points, though i'm not sure about flying battery. i think the original has more mechanics and setpieces that kinda waste your time, while mania's version is faster paced and more interesting to me as a result
-
Mania's takes me about 6-7 minutes to beat just act 2, whereas I can finish 3's in at least 4, but that's just me. The wind just gets on my nerves a bit and the boss's hitbox is just odd.

Sonic 3.
Outside of its originality, it's just the more complete game. For the time, it was actually pushing the industry forward in every aspect and was simply a well made, fun game at its heart.
Mania is certainly good and I still believe that it's first 4 acts are downright the best showing of the classic formula to date but after that... everything else just falls flat for me (besides the music). The later levels fall into the same basic pitfalls seen in other classic titles from years back. It basically being a level compilation doesn't help it. There is virtually no story to speak of. And, while it can't be helped, it doesn't have Sonic 3's credit of actually being technically outstanding for the time.
Though, this is coming from someone who is always going to be more Modern focused than anything so take this as you will.

I don't know... From what I hear from everyone, Mania surpassed Sonic 3K and is the best Sonic game. So be it I guess.
To me, Mania has the better art and level design, and for some, gameplay is everything. To me, Mania lacks in setting, structure, and the experience as a whole. Mania felt way too artificial to me, is hard to explain, but I can't help but feel disappointed about the way the game feels.
Is too much of a "party feel", it has no feel of adventure like Sonic 3K and even Sonic 1 did. The stage selection feels disjointed, the fact that the reused stages changed enough for some, not for me, specially Act 1 of most of them. I was hoping for more changes to it, like Hydrocity for example was an insane disappointment in the first time I played it. I was dreaming about how a Act 2 would have changed, and at the end... It barely changed. It made me see that despite the insane hype surrounding it, it wasn't for me. Meanwhile it surpassed everyone else's expectations.
I learned that I look forward about things that others don't. What is small details for some, to me is crucial. I was looking forward to the feel that Sonic 3K had, for the insane hype from the reveal to be justified, to feel nostalgic with everyone else and "feel the magic". I didn't see it. I still don't. And it just got worse because people treat it like the second coming of Christ. It makes me very upset that I do not see the big deal.
Sonic 3K is just a game has almost everything on point. Like... Every section is well made. Mania surpasses some sections but heavily downgrades others. (Example Sonic 3K has great level design and great feel of adventure. Mania has near perfect level design and zero feel of adventure for me.)
Sure, is nostalgia... But Sonic Mania wasn't for those fans of Sonic 3K in specific? What happend to me though? What I was expecting? lol
I still hope for a Mania 2 to change that. A smaller game with fully original stages and a more solid setting and structure is all I ask for.
Phew, that's a book.

Probably recently mega evolutions and z moves.
... and on another note of recalling "the good old days" I would have to say that I miss a more innocent time before I knew or cared about EV training.... 😕 it's really ruined the single player experience for me, because now all I'm thinking of when I catch a Pokemon is "gotta get all the effort values where I want them before I continue onward."
-
I'm surprised people bother with effort values during the main game. Natures I understand, but effort values seem like overkill with how overpowered the experience share is already. I worry about effort values, egg moves, and IVs post game, and that's only if the generation's meta is fun. I haven't done a ton of breeding this generation because of how bad the meta is.

Introducing and dropping things every generation, damn near annual releases, gating off useful features like move tutors to whatever immediate third version or sequel or alternate telling (since we've got all three accounted for at this point), battle facilities, while a nice idea (and actually give me ideas for teams now and then), are a real slog if you play more casually and you just want to learn new moves or get the useful items (Battle Tree did address this somewhat, but it can be kind of a pain). The last one kind of amuses me because money is fucking worthless in these games by the time you reach the postgame and I think that'd be a better option. I would also like to see more postgame challenges and areas to explore. A second gym challenge, if not a whole new region, would be great.

Tails remarked at Prince liking Zelda more than anything Sony showed, saying that's "sad". Which is a dumb thing to say as you're belittling someone's personal preferences. If you liked Sony more than what Nintendo is showing, good for you, but there's nothing "sad" about preferring Zelda and Pokemon to an entire conference, which tbh, wasn't even all that amazing this year.
So don't sarcastically act like nobody was doing anything to spark what I said

that's putting words in my mouth I sad nowhere in my sentence anything pertaining to Sony. Nor the fact that he likes Zelda. All I said was that he thinks Nintendo won cuz he likes what he saw. I on the other hand don't share that feeling since I wanted to see more game announcements.
And to add to that. I don't even own any Sony consoles so what your saying: " enjoy your Sony" doesn't even matter to me.

The Sony bit was pulled from Prince, to which you responded to his comparison of the two shows.
"That maybe a win for you but that's incredible sad"
why is it sad that he personally feels like Nintendo delivered the best content this year? I mean you could have used better words if you meant something else.

...but what you said there doesn't counter or make better the part I quoted specifically, nor have anything to do with it. Again, why is it sad? Seriously answer that. Why is it sad what he said that he feels that way?

Dude seriously get off my fucking back. I have nothing against his liking of the game or thinking that they won. What else do you want from me?

Eh, looks pretty meh so far if I'm being honest. Outside of being glad that they're sticking to Fighterz's way of rendering out the characters, I'm still not really sold on anything else.
Especially with this being yet another retread of Z. Look, I get it, the few original stories they have tried for these games haven't been hits (though I don't care what anyone says, I still want 21 in the new series don't@me) but this is the same way I feel about things when it comes to Sonic. They ain't going to get better if they stop trying. It has not been that long since they retold the story and there are only so many more times I can sit through the same scenes getting played out but with a new coat of paint before the impact of it all dulls out completely.
-

-
Dear lord, I just realized something too. This is a gd rpg... This is probably going to be substantially longer than your average game.
You're telling me that there's going to be next to nothing new in a story for a game like this? ... yikes
@ThePrinceOfSaiyansAgain, rather them keep trying than just fall back on the same story for the dozenth time which, in itself, wasn't perfect.
-
-
@ThePrinceOfSaiyansLeaving out my usual "I'd rather have the complete package rather than just one part of it in a $60 game. No matter how important that one part is" stance, this is an rpg. I'd argue that story is still... pretty vital in this case.
-
Okay but hear me out here: DBZ is three decades old.
People have always been engaged in Dragon Ball more for the fights and the setpiecing more than the plot itself, and I don't think there's any shame in admitting that even if it would be a welcome bonus - and that being said, we've literally seen all of this shit before. It's really hard to get invested in stuff when you already know how it ends, and moments that were once iconic in the sphere of anime have just been milked to death to the point that I think you can accurately make Green Hill parallels now.
Ultimate Tenkaichi might have been a huge dumpster fire overall, but the way Hero Mode utilized the existing characters was a huge breath of fresh air and it's honestly a crying shame that it didn't happen in a better game. We need more of that.
-
Eh, I'm gonna need to see some statistics when you start throwing around assertions like "people care more about the fighting than the story telling."
I don't have any problems getting invested in the Star Wars original trilogy despite seeing it a hundred times. It's also been 5 years since we've experienced the original story in an era where we've experienced Super and these new game stories, so for ME this is a breath of fresh air. Years of crap and I finally get something tried and true.

-
0:00-0:08 accurately describes trying to power scale modern Dragon Ball.
-
-
I disagree vehemently. Yeah, not much thought went into power scaling, but that's because not much thought needed to go into it. It was straight forward in how it approached hierarchy. Sure, there was some gray area, but the whole, the hierarchy was easy to understand. Modern Dragon Ball doesn't make a lick of sense because it's introduced 2 new types of Ki and a Goku who absorbed Super Saiyan God, yet can still use Super Saiyan God? It's a total mess, so much so that writers for the show are outright contradicting themselves on Twitter. This wasn't a problem in the original run, and it's not because the writers had a concrete understanding of the scale, it was because the scale wasn't convoluted like it is in modern Dragon Ball.
-
It was definitely a problem in the original run. From the first point that Goku arbitrarily became "stronger" and won a fight even though he received no new information or any change in approach, it's been like this. The "convoluted scale" isn't the issue, the entire nature of power progression in the series has been fucked for decades. Modern DB's inconsistency with the original series is a guaranteed result of trying to fix the progression issues of Z with different power sets and more of a tier-based approach. Otherwise you just hear more gigantic numbers read out even though every fight looks the same.
Better argument: Toriyama obviously never cared, the anime staff never cared, so why the hell should we?
-
And here's the answer: Because Goku's entire motivation is about power progression. I find this "oh power levels don't matter" nonsense to be genuinely fascinating. Like, how do people attain this mindset without snapping their spines bending over backward trying to justify such a perspective? Combat is defined by power levels in this series, and conflicts are resolved through combat. Even removing Goku's motivation from the equation, there needs to be a clear hierarchy to establish stakes and tension, which the original franchise was able to do. Modern Dragon Ball has been a tensionless snoozefest in part because of how power scaling is handled, although, I attribute that moreso to the gods, who claim to be neutral, yet keep fixing whatever problems Goku and Vegeta create.
-
Quote
I find this "oh power levels don't matter" nonsense to be genuinely fascinating. Like, how do people attain this mindset without snapping their spines bending over backward trying to justify such a perspective?
Because it's about the story, and not the numbers and comparisons and shit? A story where everything is rigidly stuck in absolute definition of ability is one that's completely predictable and boring. Dragon Ball has constantly, constantly set and broken rules for itself since it's inception because otherwise it's a terrible story. This is why Tenshinhan can hold back Cell. It's why Krillin can cut off Frieza's tail, why saiyans from U6 can unlock transformations as fast as Goten and Trunks. It's because if everything worked by these same rules, the Tournament of Power would have been 1 minute of Goku one-shotting every single other enemy and 47 minutes of Jiren battle. That's a terrible fucking story.
I mean, Dragon Ball has already been poorly-written for years, having actual twists and turns to the narrative is just trying to keep it from getting worse. Pro-Power Levels is pro-predictability.
QuoteCombat is defined by power levels in this series, and conflcits are solved through combat.
In the later parts of Dragon Ball and most of Z, this is partially true. In much of early Dragon Ball combat is defined by strategy and wit. Krillin didn't beat Bacterian by farting on him because his fart stat was at the correct level to purchase the "mustard gas" perk from the skill tree. Super is desperately trying to shuffle and work around these limitations, and while I'll certainly say it does so clumsily, it's Z's fault because we were only ever told a given character was stronger, when all of the fights look and move pretty much exactly the same. I'd much rather see a series try to fix things than wallow around in boring numbers land.
Quotethere needs to be a clear hierarchy to establish stakes and tension, which the original franchise was able to do.
That's not something you need arbitrary numbers or broken scaling to do. Take JoJo or My Hero Academia One Piece for example. Not all of their villains are physically superhuman, but their unique abilities (and most importantly their understanding of those abilities) are what allow them to rise to the top, but anyone is capable of taking them down with the right approach and the right counter. This makes the story unpredictable, something Dragon Ball constantly has to sidestep with some old guy trapped in a sword, some magic water or an elder Namek. Basically all of Super's oh-so-heinous scaling issues could be solved with a plot device like this, and what that thing is is basically meaningless. So if what it is, when they get it or how it works doesn't matter, does the fact that it's not there and they just happened to get rid of a rule that limited the storytelling from being interesting matter all that much?
SpoilerI'll answer for you: No. The answer is no.
-
And what rules are being broken when Tenshinhan can down Cell with a technique like the Shin Kikoho, or Kuririn removing Freeza's tail with the Kienzan, or U6 Saiyans unlocking Super Saiyan as quickly as Goten and Trunks did? Seriously, why can't fans of Super defend Super on its own merits instead of trying to find fault with the original series to justify Super's shitty writing? You've basically conceded my point and are trying to justify why Super is different, even though it really isn't. Power still matters, things are just too vague, unearned power ups are more frequent, and there are now blatant inconsistencies.
Also, regarding My Hero Academia specifically, there's still a scale, it's just not defined solely by power. Some quirks have the advantage over others. Dragon Ball's scale is defined by power, which is why maintaining a hierarchy matters.
And no, that's a loaded question. I don't find Dragon Ball adhering to the rules it has set up to be inherently boring. It's all about presentation.

Because it's all shitty writing. It's been broken from the start, so why single out Super? It's like blaming GT for you not liking Goku's hairstyle or something. Goku's hair has always looked like that. The scale's always been broken.
QuoteYou've basically conceded my point and are trying to justify why Super is different, even though it really isn't. Power still matters, things are just too vague, unearned power ups are more frequent, and there are now blatant inconsistencies.
because vagueness and inconsistency are all that can fester in a universe where nothing works correctly in the first place if you want an actually-entertaining narrative. And inconsistency with Z isn't necessarily a bad thing when it's rectifying a mistake, which is what all power levels are.
QuoteAlso, regarding My Hero Academia specifically, there's still a scale, it's just not defined solely by power. Some quirks have the advantage over others.
And some don't, but can win anyway, because the people using them understand and apply their abilities better. Something Dragon Ball used to do, and is trying to get back to, because when it stopped doing that, it was bland as hell.
QuoteI don't find Dragon Ball adhering to the rules it has set up to be inherently boring. It's all about presentation.
Well that's obviously on you then, but if everything is "A is always stronger than B but weaker than C" then it means that any possible combination of A, B and C is going to end the exact same way. It's completely predictable and boring. Having unique powersets or straight-up changing how things work is the only way to make that into a more engaging encounter. Z did this by just shoving Gohan up the scale via old men and rage boosts, Super does some of that but occasionally just skips the explanation because it's stuck in a series where the only meaningful way to show someone is stronger is that they win, and not because they're actually any more clever or nuanced in the way they handle a battle.

"It was always shitty, lol."
That's the typical response of a Super fan, yup. It's not that Super is shitty, it's that everything was always shitty. You don't do yourself, or the series your defending any favors by conceding that this franchise was always poorly written.
Except it hasn't been broken from the start. You keep saying that without providing reasons for that assertion. It made sense, it was consistent. If you're trying to assert that bloat made it a total mess, I can't even agree with that because we still understood where characters stood in relation to one another. Super can't even give us that much. If it did, I'd be much more forgiving, even if we did still get shit like Super Saiyan Fury.
Trying to get back to its roots? I must have missed the part where Goku and Vegeta are pretty much the only contributing players. Even in a tournament setting, the lesser characters only get the fodder. What's more, it was still mostly about power. Some strategy was there, but power won the day, and well, teamwork.
No, it's on you that you don't like how the original series was handled. A series shouldn't change how it works to appease people who didn't like it in the first place. That's backwards, doc.
Anyway, I'm done. If you wanna make one last response, be my guest, but I was just trying to provide a quick laugh, not start a debate about the merits of power scaling.

Besides the total ad-hominem at play here, the simple fact is that almost every problem Super has is a continuation of problems started by the original series. You know when people tell you this it's not because "man look at all these IDIOTS who like something I don't", it's because it's actually a valid statement. There's no reason to single Super out in the sea of poor choices this franchise has made.
QuoteExcept it hasn't been broken from the start. You keep saying that without providing reasons for that assertion. It made sense, it was consistent.
It didn't, actually. There were plenty of massive plot devices and rewrites just to keep *some* characters on the same level, and even then it didn't always work.
Better argument, "consistency" doesn't mean shit when things suck as hard as this. I cannot give a fuck if things are consistent when what's being changed actually makes things more entertaining. When your setting is toxic to the point that you can predict the outcome of every battle and only the characters the writer allows to get meaningless boosts in power, you change your setting. It doesn't matter if it's consistent, it's better. You wouldn't berate Sonic 2 and 3 for not having the spike bug.
Z was a frustrating bore-fest in it's later arcs for how useless the cast and characters I grew to love were. While you're busy jerking off the "Super only has Goku and Vegeta do anything" rhetoric, Goku and Vegeta were the literal only people that actually ended up damaging Buu, and only in the last 10 chapters for that matter. Everything every other fighter did could be irrelevant, relegated to time-killing filler. Mister Satan had more of an influence than Gotenks or Gohan.
Akira Toriyama is a bad writer. This is known, most people (myself included) can look past it because his series and characters are fun, nothing Super does wrong is specific to it (okay, the Whis/Beerus stuff I'll give you, but still), simply a further result of the same problems that have been eating away at the series for decadees.
QuoteIf you're trying to assert that bloat made it a total mess, I can't even agree with that because we still understood where characters stood in relation to one another. Super can't even give us that much.
Again, that's not where the issue lies. It doesn't matter because they never should have been using this straight vertical method of character strength in the first place. It has little to do with Super, because by your own logic, all Super would need to do to "fix" a character being stronger than they should is spend five minutes on some bullshit never-before-seen plot device to power up the characters by an arbitrary meaningless number and then the scale just "works". It's completely asinine. The only solution to the issue is revising how the scale itself works. Better argument: someone suddenly being way more powerful than expected is a twist this series has pulled constantly and consistently for thirty years. A better argument is that, again, "understanding where characters stand in relation to one another" is the essence of making things too predictable. I don't want a series where I know the beats of every character's role in every fight before they happen. I want to see Krillin and Piccolo do stuff again, I want to see more technique-based fighting like Roshi showed off in the ToP, it's good for Dragon Ball because it isn't repetitive angry-faced number battles.
QuoteTrying to get back to its roots? I must have missed the part where Goku and Vegeta are pretty much the only contributing players. Even in a tournament setting, the lesser characters only get the fodder. What's more, it was still mostly about power. Some strategy was there, but power won the day, and well, teamwork.
That's why I said "trying", even if this statement is full of brash generalization and rhetoric anyway.

"It's on you that you don't like how Super is handled. A series shouldn't change how it works to appease people who didn't like it in the first place."
Hey big question, why do you think Dragon Ball moved to being less about gags and more about martial arts and battles? Man, it certainly doesn't have anything to do with how much more popular it suddenly got, and I definitely think all those new fans were just hearing about it for the first time, reeeeeaaaallllyyyy.
I can't believe you're actually criticizing a series' writing while simulatneously telling me to stop not settling for shitty writing.

I know in the past Funimation did other anime like Case Closed (Detective Conan) and that had good English OPs/EDs... But yeah, I liked their efforts but don't feel it to be a giant loss that they no longer dub OPs/EDs anymore.-

Wait, it's been confirmed that Eevee can't evolve in Lets Go? What the fuck is the point, lol?
-
-
-
-
Not really. Most Pokemon do evolve, but that's not the point of their existence. Eevee isn't called the Evolution Pokemon for nothing.
-
-
Apparently you should be able catch wild Pikachu and Eevee in the game, which can evolve.
...Buuut since the game's restricted to just Kanto Pokémon (and some Alolan forms) wild Eevee can presumably only evolve into it's original 3 evolutions.
-
Supah Berry reacted to this
-
Most Eeveelutions aren't top tier fighters, especially now lol. Vapereon is the only viable one of the original 3.
Yes yes, Caterpie and Pidgey are stepping stones, but Eevee is different. What makes Eevee the Evolution Pokemon is that it has so many different forms. To remove that possibility of evolution is to make Eevee's existence pointless. Pikachu not being able to evolve makes sense because Yellow was emulating the anime. With Eevee, you're just removing it's entire shtick, making it an unappealing choice.

My problem with SSJB at this point is I guess it kind of just feels lazy to me? I mean it sort of just looks like SSJ with blue hair, and it seems to just be the be-all solution. Even Rose, which was technically Pink SSJ had shit like Vegito's spirit sword and such.
Also, it doesn't help that I really loved SSG's design because while it retained Goku's normal design, it was leaner, and more subtle with the design choices.

Having not played practically any RPGs or heavily Story based games, I never felt more urgency in any game before that Point. I was legitimately upset and worried about Hoenn. The fact that I had a huge Imagination as a kid and could very lively imagine how awfull the constant and extreme weather changing would feel also helped a great deal.
And then, when I ran up to the Tower and got Rayquaza and saved the Region...goddamn, it felt SO satisfying.

@Ferno That's what I was thinking. A Chao Garden app would probably print money with those nostalgic for it if they marketed right...though knowing them they'll probably pull a Runners and make it exorbitantly expensive to do anything.
-
Judging from how morbid the abuse system is, (Crying, trembling in terror, running away, and giving them headaches) I got a feeling a few of the programmers didn't really care much for the chao either.
Me, I have a love hate relationship with them. They're cute, I like seeing what they can evolve into, and I find that they have a bit of charm to them.
but at the same time, they can be too cute (Even for me), a pain in the ass to train, and I hate their random tantrums they'll throw. I often find myself attacking them when they do that.
-
Chao were a nice distraction, and gave you something to do with all the rings and stuff you could collect during the stages. Like a bottomless pit pushing you to keep collecting, knowing full well there was never an "end" to it.
That never hurts, particularly so for a series that often lacks content.
-
I'll actually admit I spent a lot of time with them when I played SA2:B. I actually recall having at least 10+ Chao at one point.
I still wouldn't want it to be added to a main series Sonic game again though (especially with how SA2 ended up tying them to 100% Completion). Sega should had capitalized on their popularity and made a mobile spinoff with them years ago (though apparently Iizuka only very recently learned they have a devoted following....so there you go.)

Well, the Star Wars prequels don't feel like that at all, so again, I'm not sure what that criticism is supposed to mean. The best I can imagine is that the Force abilities feel like video game conventions, which is inane if you ask me. Force augmentation, Force lightning, Force pull, Force push, it's all stuff we've seen in the originals, only employed more often, which makes sense given these are Jedi at the height of their power.

The trailer itself looks fun, but I can't say I like Ash's redesign. It's just very weird looking, especially since other characters don't really reflect this direction (and like Boomer said, his face markings don't look right, at all). What I've seen of the newer characters looks on par with what's been in XYZ.
-
-
-
I've started to look at each season of Pokemon as less of a continuous saga and moreso as a separate anthology where the previous canon doesn't really matter.
ie, you could watch XY from start to finish without having seen Indigo League or anything after it or Sun/Moon and still get a good chunk of story.
Not good for those who stuck through it since the beginning, unfortunately.
-
-
@Indigo Rush That's pretty much how I've been treating it. The original series-DP were pretty connected if you think about it but once BW started it was yeah screw that
-
Honestly that's how I see it too, it's just nice when they do have continuity nods. It's weird how even Best Wishes referenced Ash's adventures in past regions but (from what I hear) the Kalos saga doesn't. Like, ever. That's just weird.
Also there was a huge missed opportunity to have Ash assemble a team (for a League battle, I guess) that has one Pokemon from each generation. That would've been really cool.
