He has a tenuous grasp on reality at best. And clearly has a fixation on the individual effort as opposed to the results of good team work. I doubt he could comprehend that the first Sonic games were a combined group effort with Naka, Naoto Ohshima and Hirokazu Yasuhara steering the major elements of the projects.

No, in Pendersopolis, Naka made everything with his own two programming magic hands (and probably stole all his post-1993 work from Penders, of course).

I really don't like playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles anymore these days.

Sonic 3 Complete, on the other hand, is pretty fantastic

I'm sorry that it took you 20 years to realise Ken Penders is an awful idiot. That's a purgatory that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

In a world where I'm quite annoyed with Sonic's overall shaky quality control (to put it very politely), it's heartening to know that Ken Penders continues to be even worse somehow. Clinging to the back of the monstrous beast that is the modern Sonic franchise, like a gibbering moustached leech. It's beautiful in how pathetic it is.

This is probably going to be controversial, but.....he absolutely hit the nail right on the head about SA2. When a game has only a third of it's content relevant to the subject matter and arguably fun, there is a massive issue. When you play a Sonic game, do you expect to be spending most of your time running around at high speeds and platforming, or shooting thins in a giant mech walker or (very painfully) treasure hunting? These alternate play styles did not match the game, and it elongates the issue that SA1 had where it did contain play styles that deviated too much from the core fomula. SA1 had Big, Gamma, and Knuckles (though he wasn't nearly as bad as SA2) play completely differently in their stories, with Sonic, Tails, and Amy all having something in common (Tails was Sonic but could fly while having to race Sonic to the goal, Amy was a slower Sonic with a big ass robot chasing her, Sonic is Sonic). Overall, the amount of play styles that don't fit in take up half of the stories in SA1, but two thirds of the game in SA2, which in my opinion, is a step back.

Overall, this shouldn't be what current Sonic games should aspire to be, because otherwise they wouldn't be Sonic games. They would just be a mish mash of gameplay styles which happens to feature Sonic The Hedgehog. I just find it extremely difficult to be able to say that only a third of a Sonic game is the height of the series, and if I were in a situation where I would have to recommend some Sonic games to a friend, I would probably skip straight past the Adventure games despite me liking the first, reason being, I don't want to recommend games where only certain parts of the game are fun. Is SA2 a bad game though? Oh no, it's not broken or anything and the Sonic stages are a lot of fun. However, it's definitely not the peak of the franchise, like, at all. [MAJOR CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT INCOMING] For me, it's about on par with Lost World, another game that tried to be too many things at once and suffered partially because of that.

TL;DR There are much better Sonic games out there to take cues from.

I don't think they're afraid to do Sonic gameplay.

I think they're too incompetent to know how.

Just got done watching the video proper.

Aaaand he was right on the money about most things, to be honest.

The only thing I found myself disagreeing with was the last part (about everyone "not wanting to play as Sonic's stupid friends", as they all say, you know how it is..), especially since it defies the arguments he made earlier in the video about how they should rather be used to their strengths instead of doing dumb things, and I think that represents his argument more while the last statement seems like a broad statement meant to match status quo for your average Youtuber crowd. :v

And yeah, he was right about a lot of that with Sonic Adventure 2 actually being a bad (well, not bad, but not-so-great) game, but I'd prefer him to make a video of Sonic Adventure 1 rather than put both of them in the same category. Since.. you know... they're actually really different games, despite similar issues.

Despite that, his argument that there doesn't need to be a 'Sonic Adventure 3' rings pretty true, considering it'll only give Sega ideas that alternate gameplay styles are what we wanted as well.
