That depends on what you are demanding from the new comic, and how you consider it successful. Thinking the comic won’t be worth reading (for YOU) if the FF isn’t in is understandable, for example. But thinking the comic is hopeless and will fail because of that is pretty extreme. Especially since there are people right here in the forum looking forward to it, either because of that possibility or regardless of that concern.
If you are having a hard time being positive about something, it's not effective to read discussion forums to motivate yourself (unless there was a topic specifically dedicated to thinking positively). It's better to go to, say, Tumblr or dA where people can look, group and talk about similar views.

This is a forum where people discuss so it can't be helped.
Sonic fanbases are pessimistic, but I think it mostly depends on the group. Various forums and social media sites have  their own Sonic communities. Some are more toxic, some are optimistic, some are pessimistic, and others are silly.

There are many times the game doesn't have any civilians, but when they do they were always human NPCs (were there ever mobian NPCs outside Forces and Sonic Rush Adventure? I can barely remember), so I assumed that was what they'll keep doing.
I do wonder if they will keep the "both mobians and humans coexist" thing from Archie.

Didn't they say the mandate/limit will be more loose? Most of the mandates that I heard of were either reasonable or "uh, ok, whatev" for me.
Sonic can't cry his eyes out? There are many other ways to express sadness or despair. Sonic can't be in romance? Well there are other type of relationship/dynamics, and apparently flirting doesn't count (please no more shipping wars). No relatives for game characters? Don't make the lack of them feel unusual. Cream can't fight, and wasn't allowed to appear until later? Give her a support role, and give her an intro instead of suddenly appearing. Sonic need to always win? Doesn't mean a grand victory, and doesn't mean he can't suffer some (permanent) loss.
I think the writers can write a good story that don't feel limited or mandated as long as they do it right. There were times Ian had found loop holes/twists or did great without breaking rules, and in another time did something sloppy that made "well the mandate..." feel like an excuse. Of course I don't know the whole mandate and I can't write, so I shouldn't judge...

If people give it a try and think it's not good, that's totally fair. I was trying to say people who think IDW isn’t worth reading if "it doesn’t have [something from Archie]" is not.
From BlueSky’s reply I learned that some can’t read because of emotional flashback. I’m sure some hate IDW because it feels like they “ended” Archie. It is unfair because it’s not IDW’s fault, but I guess that can’t be helped.
Still, it is a little bizarre for me that a new adaptation from a different company should carry on original characters and ideas from a different adaptation in a possibly different world/environment. Liking or hating certain adaptations is normal, but rating/valuing IDW  by how close it resembles or brings from Archie is so weird. That, and I’m more used to abrupt ends and multiple different adaptations of the same work. When a series get cancelled I am surprised at first but says “too bad!” and move on. So it was hard to understand why people can't see as separate. I wonder if the comeback of Ian and co. is making it harder for people?

I don't think the problem is how serious he is. I personally remember him as goofy or creepy.
I think it's more of his personality and action, as well as how the entire plot/timeline of 06 is seen by the fans. That and the atmosphere/tone of 06 feels different from all other games. From what I hear the criticism centers around his design as "Shadow clone" & "spiky Shadow", how his plan is all over the place (I do wonder why he went all the way to the future to manipulate Silver, if he could easily kill Sonic by himself), and his character is just "evil guy who want destruction" and nothing else.

I kinda explained why I thought it was unfair right underneath: "Liking or hating certain adaptations is normal, but rating/valuing IDW  by how close it resembles or brings from Archie is so weird."  That's what I'm saying. It's fine if you were attached to one interpretation/adaptation and hated the source material, or just not interested. That cannot be helped. But reasoning it on whether it's similar or not is odd. IDW and Archie are two separate adaptations. It's not supposed to be similar, especially when each adaptation should be unique and attractive by itself.
Also, is it really a new, increasingly completely-unrelated thing? IDW is new and different, but both are Sonic as source material. Both (will) have the same basic setting, world, and main characters + characters from the old games. Archie made a unique world, but many were based on concepts and materials from game or cartoons. We even have the same writer, and possibly same artists (we don't know if Tyson Hesse will draw outside of promotional, but IDW had said something about listening to fans)....
....I really want it to be different but tbh I'm expecting it to be the same  "Sonic comic by Ian and co.", without the Archie-exclusive assets and perhaps change in art style.

I was wondering when he (or anyone working for IDW) would make it clear. Not a surprise, more of a relief tbh.
Just hoping the fans of those characters won't say "the comic isn't worth reading anymore!" without giving a try. I know many were attached to the Archie series and are bummed. But Ian and other staff who made the characters/stories/art, which most of those people praised and loved, are coming back for IDW Sonic.

KoDaiko got a reaction from RedFox99 in Anthropomorphic Animals
You mean one of those funny sickkick animal buddies in disney films? Or just Anthropomorphic animals in general?
I clicked on the first furry thread on google that talked about it (slightly nsfw ), and a person says "It's the combination of the best characteristics of humans mixed with the best characteristics of cute animals. If you're attracted to something anthro, you're most likely actually attracted to the human elements that are wrapped up inside the cute, "furry" aspects." So something that is boring if a human character does it can be cute or funny if an animal does it, because you have a different impression/bias on them?
Maybe people like them  because they are human-like but not actually human. Or because animals are considered cute, pure or innocent in general.
