  1. Can't think a better moment to post this:

      Funny that the image includes Street Fighter II, a game that had many re-releases before reaching a point where the last one was comparable to a "full game" to the first one, essentially the back then equivalent to patches and DLCs.

      But also more equivalent to a game that already felt complete simply getting more stuff added to it, rather than feeling incomplete and then properly finished later. Still counts in my book.

      @Teoskaven Saw the same where I took the meme. Posted it mainly because of Sonic and Mario. Still then, earlier I was talking with my brother some of our childhood games and how I miss them.

      @Waveshocker Sigma completed my idea.

      Highly debatable. If back in the day people had the same attitude towards Capcom that they have today, SFII wouldn't even had the chance to get to one of its first re-releases.
      Having "incomplete" versions of games that were fixed later has been a thing in Japan for decades, the west has started experiencing it (and yes, no doubt exploiting it but not for everything) only recently thanks to the internet, because usually the time gap allowed devs to release in the west the complete versions first anyway. Gen I of Pokémon being a primary example of that.

      DLC is a bit of a double-edged sword.

      it can be used to bring substantial new content to expand an already great game.

      it can also nickel-and-dime players for all they're worth to get an experience that actually feels complete.
