New pilots got confirmed for Starlink!

  2. I think I've read the name "Zavok" more often in the last 24 hours than in the 5 years he existed in before that

  3. Is Aunt May's whole character in the MCU "Get hit on"?

      The Tenth Doctor

She does have the nice scene when Peter just lost his suit and says to her he's lost his Stark Internship. She was a good comofrting Aunt to Peter there.

  4. Over a half of the TMNT review is complete!

  5. You know for a fact that if Lost World had came out before 2010 they would of done everything they could to explain what the lost hex is and who the deadly six are.

    1. Heckboy

      Heckboy

Lost World wouldn't have come out before 2010, because there wouldn't have been a Wii U for it to be exclusive for, and thus there wouldn't even be any Lost Hexes or Deadly Sixes because they wouldn't feel the need to appeal to a Nintendo/Mario audience.

And even if they did explain shit that wouldn't have necessarily been a good thing. Just because they did everything they could to "explain" Shadow (like in ShTH) doesn't make his story any better.

    2. Thigolf

      Thigolf

I desperately hope that Ian Flynn is allowed to flesh them and their world out someday. I'm still kinda bummed that he built up a Lost World adaptation and then... Archie Sonic was no more.

    3. Diogenes

      Diogenes

but would that have made the story better

    4. Yeow

      Yeow

@Heckboy I think Deji is suggesting "pre-2010" because that was before Iizuka re-assumed control of the series (as head of sonic team/producer of the games), which was what started the push of more simple and lighter stories (even taking unleashed into account, IMO it's lighter/softer like the Pontac/Warren-era of written games but it's clearly written in a distinct mold/presentation of those games)

Of course, we don't know if LW would even exist by that point. For all we know, the Zeti/D6 may have entirely been an Iizuka and/or Pontac/Warren creation in particular.

    5. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

@Thigolf I'm almost certain they will. The comics always do the thing of taking something from the games and expanding on it.

    6. Thigolf

      Thigolf

@Kuzu the Boloedge I know it's a very real possibility, but there's so much stuff in the Sonic World that it might be a loooong time until we get there xP

And I don't know if it would've made the story better, I think they did the bare minimum to make it work, but I still would've loved to see the world and characters more fleshed out.

    7. SupahBerry

      SupahBerry

Would the whole series really be better of if Izuka hadn't "reassumed" control and started the whole lighthearted stories, classic pandering fiasco? Thats what we're getting at?

    8. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

@Diogenes Depends on what you count as better given your tastes, but at least it wouldn’t be so paper thin and underdeveloped.

  6. So I know games when ordered online typically will ship a bit early to make the release date, so is it possible I may receive both the KH3 PS4 and the collectors edition a day early?(so Monday vs Tuesday)? I know when I got the KH2.5 collectors edition, I received that a day early

    1. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

      Possible? Yes. Likely, no.

Ordered games all the time during college (as it was just too much of a thing to travel across the city for them) and had most of them arrive the day of with one getting there 3 days late.

    2. Wraith

      Wraith

Never had a game get here early. Usually day of. Sometimes late.

    3. KHCast

      KHCast

Hmm alright. I’m not ordering from amazon, just the square Enix store and GameStop if that means anything. I know the square store typically gets me my products earlier than expected, but I’ll keep my expectations grounded

  7. Shadow is such a funny ass character from a fan perspective; first he was popular and we wanted him in everything, then he actually was in everything and we got sick of it, and now that he's been gone, we want him back.

I know the context, it's just funny how much pull the character still has after all these years.

    1. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

Don’t really know what you have till it’s gone and too much of a something is never really good. Sega needs to learn about balance one of these days.

    2. Yeow

      Yeow

i know you said you know the context, but yeah, depends on the fans in question you're asking about

i'm sure those who like him in the games he debuted/showed up in are the ones who have been consistent in wanting him to stay around

      everyone else may not apply

    3. Wraith

      Wraith

I know plenty who have come around on Shadow in retrospect. There's still some who want him to stay gone but it's never really been worth listening to them just going by the popularity polls and shit

    4. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

Like, he is one of the few characters outside the classics that people are likely to know about in the general sense.

They want Disney to buy EA so they can let them destroy it like with Lucasfilms

  13. Wonder if Shadow will be a fully playable character in all modern (Sonic) stages in the next 3D Sonic game. I mean, they tested the waters with him being playable in some stages in Forces, and Shadow's reception was positive, I guess. So I'm thinking Shadow will be playable again in the next game.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

All I'm really interested in when it comes to multiple playable characters is that they follow the S3K model - everyone plays like Sonic, with slightly varying stats and moves. Shadow is a good place to start because he's already so similar to Sonic and, unlike Knuckles and Tails, doesn't have and signature abilities that would just break the game.

    2. ThePrinceOfSaiyans

      ThePrinceOfSaiyans

I have no reason to get my hopes up.

    3. JosepHenry

      JosepHenry

I have that to look forward to I guess. Shadow was grossly underutilized in Forces, if they renove him in the next I will be kind of upset.

    4. Kiah

      Kiah

That would be cool. At this point  hopefully it will be someone in the cast playable other than Sonic and Sonic...

    5. Yeow

      Yeow

i could see them interpreting people happy about shadow being brought back as a playable character in forces meaning people want him to ride vehicles and use guns/weapons/chaos powers again; and shoehorning all of that into the next game

    6. JezMM

      JezMM

Honestly I'm fine with Chaos powers as long as they provide interesting platforming experiences.  The idea of a Chaos Control that freezes time can lend itself to that, or one that lets you warp across a space kinda like a teleport special move from Smash Bros.

Not sure about Chaos Blast... hard to think of any way to make that one useful unless they're gonna arbitrarily start using enemy hordes again which just aren't fun.  And if they exist simply to use Chaos Blast on, doing so has no meaning.  But Blast isn't really necessary anyway, it isn't a signature move of his like Control is.

  19. I think Silver being another hedgehog is what hurts his popularity more than anything. Should have been another species.

    1. Wraith

      Wraith

I think it helps with his popularity if anything. It's just kind of lame.

    2. ThePrinceOfSaiyans

      ThePrinceOfSaiyans

Naw, Sonic '06 is why he isn't popular. If he was put in a game where he was fun to play as, that apprehension would probably disappear.

    3. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

I mean, he's been "better" after, but he doesn't get anywhere near the same treatment Shadow or Amy gets.

I think he'd be a bit more well liked if he was able to differentiate himself.

    4. Ferno

      Ferno

There's always been something that's irked me about the Sonic/Shadow/Silver trio. I guess they just subconciously remind me of the subset of fans back in the day who wanted the future of the franchise to stay as edgy as ShTH and '06 was, and they always tended to have that trio in particular as their avatar/ sig, etc.

    5. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

The hedgehogs are always going to be the most popular species among fans, so that's not really uncommon.

Especially since Silver got top billing along with Sonic and Shadow in 06.

    6. Dejimon11

      Dejimon11

Him being a hedgehog was fine the problem was the game he debuted in and every time they bring him back it's either "oh no my future is in danger" or they don't bother explaining to the point where they're better off just retconning his backstory that he's from the future.

    7. TheOcelot

      TheOcelot

If Silver had first appeared in a good game and had good gameplay, better dialogue then he'd be more popular. Don't forgot Silver should not have appeared again in the franchise after 06 because he was from that games future which is where he should have stayed and not be used again. The more appearances he's made since 06 the less interesting he's become, much like Shadow.

  20. Sometimes I wonder how many new fans the Sonic series is currently getting? How many kids pick up recent or semi-recent games like Forces or Lost World and become new fans?

It's something I don't really have any perspective on, since I don't really interact with kids all that often, so I wonder. They seemed and seem more interested in Fortnite, Pokemon Go or Minecraft these days, I'm not sure if Sonic even comes up. But again, I basically have no experience.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I think that this is something that SEGA is acutely aware of, which is why  they wanted to launch Boom as a big new franchise and went other instalments are trying to capitalise in the nostalgia of the older market so much.

    2. Wraith

      Wraith

Sonic pretty evidently has a smaller pull than he once did but the kids will always outnumber the adults imo.

    3. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

I still see kids with Sonic book bags at school, so I'd say he's decently popular with young kids.

Most kids into fornite and stuff are pre teens

    4. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

If my 3 year old nephew getting excited about seeing Sonic in Wreck it Ralph 2 is any indicator, small kids love him.

    5. Yeow

      Yeow

kids are pretty much given to like sonic, considering the format of the games (colorful platformer with [talking] animals, especially since the original design is clearly modeled after characters like felix and mickey mouse). not really a surprise there IMO, especially with supplementary stuff like comics/tv shows/merch/etc. also aimed for them.

the more interesting question to me is if nowadays he (still) has any demographic appeal beyond kids and his own fanbase; and if it's something sega wants to fix if that is no longer the case. sonic's audience mostly being children may be the result but it doesn't have to be the intention; i'd say the legacy of the original genesis games (and how mania was considered a legitimate GOTY contender in the year of it's release) certainly proves that.

  21. Officially done with all Superman books Brian Bendis is writing. #7 broke me in two with it's stupidity.

  23. Will be seeing Broli at 2:30 today. I'm watching the Broli trilogy to prepare.

  24. Thinking about the story of Secret Rings, I do have to wonder if it would’ve had more impact if it was like a Light/Dark Gaia thing, like maybe instead of the storybook plot or whatever, Eggman is trying to unleash Erazor as his latest monster of the week scheme, only for Eggman to be able to unable to control him, and Erazor, being a monster who’d been sealed long ago (as in the actual times the book was set in ) uses his magic to literally turn Sonic’s world into the Arabian Nights and the reason for the random Sonic characters being characters in the world is literally because Erazor’s magic transformed the world itself.

    Idk, I’m just spitballing here

    1. Heckboy

      Heckboy

as much as i love eggman he doesn't need to be behind everything. the story has enough impact as it is.

    2. Wraith

      Wraith

Making the plot more generic and in line with other Sonic games when the premise is actually really good and unique would be a massive mistake

    3. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Considering I don’t remember much of Secret Rings’ plot bar the generic characters in Sonic skins, Sonic’s life being on a deadline, and it being all over the place due to the bad mission structure, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

    4. Diogenes

      Diogenes

eh, eggman releasing something he can't control is a pretty tired story, and back around '07 was about the worst for it. if they were to go for something like that i'd rather they work together, if maybe uneasily. like they both have their own vision for the world, and compromise on an eggmanified arabian nights kind of thing, but the more ground sonic gains against them, the more they start to blame each other, which contributes to their stuff going to shit at the end.

    5. Heckboy

      Heckboy

This is fine as is and wouldn't be improved by having it set in Sonic's World with Eggman and shit instead of a unique and interesting storybook world. If anything it would have less impact since it's just another monster of the week plot.

    6. Wraith

      Wraith

"I don't remember what the game was actually about but this is better I'm sure"

    7. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

I never said that, I never even implied this was better, I simply said I wonder if this would be good or not and said I was spitballing.

But sure, change the meaning of what I said altogether to make it sound like I’m saying I can write better and know better instead of simply saying an idea.
