  1. I'm currently reading "Sonic and the tales of deception", one of the last Sonic-related books in being released, and despite how cheesy it feels at times, I'm enjoying it. As a matter of fact, the more I read, the more I want SEGA to start investing in this type of content. Let's imagine for a second the amount of possibilities Sonic literature can easily open for this franchise: Prequel books that provide the fans with more context and backstory from the games. Short novels based on the IDW comics, or even the Sonic cinematic universe. Informative books that give us an inside look of locations, artifacts, and the background story of every character of the series. Gotta ask, am I the only one who wants to see stuff like these?
  2. If you know me by now, I have a ton of respect, love and concern for sonic and his creators. they've been in such a bizarre place for such a long time, but Sonic team, looking at the comments they made on fan games and videos, has proven that they've been listening to it's fans, one of the best examples being Christian Whitehead and where he stands now. sonic mania is not only one of my favorite games, but also one of the highest rated sonic games of all time, even surpassing sonic adventure 2, one of my other favorite games. their are a lot of fan games that have consolidated a direction for sonic to take going forward, but when you look at the pitches & editorials that they've made, holy cow they're amazing. I wish I could show you one I love the most but it's one that isn't allowed in this forum so I'll leave it for now. however, this fanbase has been through so much derision and bad games that whatever move This team got, the fans go critical, some even lost trust with this team. they've lost all of the optimism because of Sonic Forces, and now all this separated fanbase feels about sonic team is distrust, cynicism, and bleakness. they constantly go make a fangame with literally no originality from all of the others and go "hey look I'm better than sonic team" (which in retrospect, they are, sonic forces was made by inexperienced developers who'd be better off working on something else at this point. We'll get to that game later just you wait.) to the point where the only thing it takes to BE better than sonic team is to go on a physics engine and make a sonic game level that basically goes in a straight line, but said straight line has some multiple "paths" so It generally means they're better (despite mortar canyon existing). it literally takes no skill to be better now, and that only SOURS sonic team's reputation more to such a disgusting degree. Sonic Team is in a confusing fever dream of a place because of all this. to start things off, sonic team has a lot of live and spark despite what people say, rockin music, nice staff and a ton of care for this franchise like we do. but after sonic forces, sonic team has so many holes of lost members, we were promised a game made by the people who made colors and generations, but instead we got level designers who were only experienced with lost world, writers who only worked on happy tree friends and knew nothing about this franchise, 3 years wasted on make a graphics engine because the old one couldn't use next gen hardware and only had one year to work on the game, after all this, parts of the team left. it makes sense why these fans feel betrayed and they shouldn't have to cope with this, But Sonic Team shouldn't feel Desperate making a new game either. to reiterate all this: The fans are full of creativity and care for this franchise. the trade-off is that this has gotta be the most critical fanbases of all time, not that it's a bad thing, criticality is quite helpful overall. but the thing comes with a huge amount of cynicism and distrust, to a point where when you say your better than sonic team, you're now factually right by the fans. Sonic Team is just as caring for this franchise as we are, the creativeness isn't really there though because of the inexperienced members. but the biggest trade-off is what this franchise now represents to the fans after forces. forces, for all the fun I had with it, is shallow, mediocre, hollow fan-service that was only made to please the already broken fanbase with an already incompetent game. overall, Sonic's future is literally unpredictable, there's no telling what this company is going to do next, there is evidence that can consolidate a direction that sonic team can possibly go, but after that, what about the fans? what will the fans do? why would they do it? this fanbase is so unpredictable that Sonic Team thinks there's no idea what they want. I just don't know what to do about this, any thoughts you guys?
  3. I'm currently working in the construction of +Sonic, a new guild on Ruqqus. While I do not recommend to join our guild in this current state, I do would like to encourage you to give it a look. This forum will change a lot in the next couple of months! Peace out!

  6. Hey all, For many months now, I have been hard at work restoring an old website that some of us used to use long ago. Many of you may be familiar with the acronym MFZ, which stood for "The Mystical Forest Zone." For many Sonic creators, this place represented a creative place that held all sorts of comics and sprites. I for one used to use this site all the time for my personal projects. As of 2014, the site no longer exists with no way to access their archives except through the wayback machine. You no longer have to wait hours just to access your favorite sprites. I have now finished a complete restoration of their archive, including additions being made by our members to continue where it left off. There are plans for having a convenient uploading tool to easily add new sheets, but until I finish that part, all creators are welcome to join our small community in the forums or in our Discord. We are currently accepting new sheets to the collection, as well as encouraging anyone who wants to start their own sprite projects. I thought some of you might want to enjoy this resource for yourselves, and hope for old time sonic spriters that this will bring a bit of nostalgia for you. 7. Hello, my name is Jonathan and late last year I decided I'd cope with depression and unemployment by being creative. I have recently been accepted into university to study 2D Animation and Stop Motion. I love to draw, and while I was putting my portfolio together I found a piece of art I made using Art Academy on the Wii U, Scrambled Egg Zone and the Silver Sonic fight. Sonic 2 for the Master System, what a game! I grew up with this one and didn't get to play the Megadrive trilogy until I got Sonic Jam for the Saturn. I love the art style, the strange level tropes, the music and the variation. It's a punishing game but I still enjoy to complete it in about 40 mins from time to time. I've been quietly appreciating SAGE and the wonderful efforts that have come out of our fandom. I am especially excited for the Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble remakes! But what about MY favourite game? Well I'm doing something about that. Using the Open Surge engine that debuted at SAGE 2019, with the co-operation of it's community, my partner, who is a programmer, I am remaking the 8 Bit version of Sonic 2! I aim to: - Recreate the game's unique art style using digitised hand drawn assets coloured using the original game's palette - "Modernise" the original experience (for example, 2 acts per zone each with bosses, special stages, drop dash, cutscenes) - Make the level design fun and in line with Sonic 3 and Mania standards - Have fun and put a new spin on my favourite title - Have a demo of Under Ground Zone release in 2020 Finally, I am looking for anybody who also loves this game, and wants to remix it's soundtrack! The more people want to contribute the better! Thank you for reading this post, may you have a happy new year and keep on expressing yourself!
  8. I've heard most people say Sonic has always been 15. Sometimes I hear 16, 17, any many more. Though I'm sure he's 15, What's your thoughts? (If you can, please put in the ages of Sonic Characters that are not on this list) http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicChannel/character/tails.html
  9. Amy was "cute and full of energy", as she would call herself in Adventure. But I don't know what she'd call herself nowadays, except "bland". I get trying to have her "mature" (which she was never as bad as people made her out to be in the games imo) but couldn't you have done that without taking her whole personality? She's so boring now. The last time she ever did anything was Unleashed. Nowadays she's just... there. Like I said, I feel like people really exaggerated her crush on Sonic. They saw Sonic X and used that interpretation on everything. Her crush was only emphasized for jokes like in Heroes. People talk about her chasing Sonic but they never talk about her speech to Shadow about how not all humans are bad. Or turned Gamma against Eggman through kind words. Or had a robot chase her throughout the entire story just to protect this bird. And then put the hurt on him when he finally got to it. Amy was a sweet character whose bad side you wouldn't want to get on. If Old Amy was "immature" and New Amy is mature, shoot, give me immaturity any day. Amy used to have been my only problem with the IDW comics. She felt like Sally 2.0 to me. Then someone told me it because she was overworked since she's the only Sonic character besides Knuckles that would be leader. That made alot of sense to me.
