  1. Yes indeed folks, it's just about that time of year again, when we can all sit down and and enjoy hour after hour of corporate press conferences. Boy, do I make it sound fun! Despite how interminably boring that sounds though, anybody who is familiar with the annual ritual we know as the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or 'E3,' will only see that as being a good thing. Every year, these great big corporations try to wow the world with their wares, and every year they all find a way to do or say something we find hilarious, amazing, baffling and/or bizarre, and some of them find a way to screw up even worse. Some of these things end up becoming immortalized in the form of animated gifs and videos, which then spread like wildfire across the gaming forums of the net. We've already enjoyed two bonus rounds of excellent giffage and videos, thanks to this being the launch year of no less than two new consoles, but we're not done yet. In just a couple of days, Konami is going to kick off the proceedings a few days ahead of the competition with the first of the big press conferences, to be streamed online in multiple languages. That's right everybody, it's almost time to welcome back for just a few short days the one, the only, the always spectacular...
  2. Like last year, I think that we need to have a one-stop destination for these things, as I feel like I'm missing out on some classics because as I can't read every page of every topic, here or on GAF, obviously. Oh yeah and I can't be fucked looking for the old topic as I'm too excited about Nintendo's event today. These are my favorite three so far: But of course there are so many more around. Post them!

Additionally, rumors continue to persist regarding a 'Steambox' system from Valve, and who knows what else we might be shocked and awed by? The likes of Zynga are in attendance this year as well, so it will be interesting to see how seriously the media takes social gaming against announcements from the other major players. So, what do you want to see and what do you hope to see?
  4. Every year at E3, somebody's wildest dreams are realized after god knows how many years spent waiting, while others' are dashed upon the rocks of reality. Usually it's the latter that holds true more than the former, but given how everyone has different desires, different wants, different criterion for that one special announcement / reveal / demo / etc, there's always somebody who's pleased as punch after the event, even if most of us wind up sorely disappointed. So, What are your biggest hopes and dreams for this year's highly anticipated E3 event? Do try to give a short description of why you want x, y and z too, please. I'd rather not have to lock this topic up due to rule violations. For my part, I'm wishing for three things: Wish #1: Quake V Why: It has been forever since Quake got its last outing and, while Q4 was a bitter disappointment in many areas, I love the universe which id forged with Q2 and its expansions, and I dearly hope we see something of the game soon. It would just about make my year to see this one debut at E3 out of nowhere. Likelihood: Not happening. id seems to have a habit of alternating between Doom and Quake, pioneering new engines on the former and refining them on the latter. I doubt we'll even spy a new Doom for a year or two, and even when it does come it'll probably be at QuakeCon rather than E3. Wish #2: To get really excited about the Wii-U Why? I want them to show me all the cool things it can do, tell me about and show me the great exclusives and multi-platform games we can expect around launch, explain to me in a language I can comprehend the online system and everything else. I want to shut off the feed to their conference when it ends excited to distraction. Likelihood: Sort of probable. Nintendo has been pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to getting me excited; some years they knock my socks off, others they fail even to raise a smile. I hope this year is of the former variety, rather than the damp squib of the latter. Wish #3: Anything new to do with GTA, Metro, Metroid, Rage, Sonic, Star Wars, Warp, Zelda, and whatever other games I like. Why? They're my most cherished game series', some of which I grew up with (and still view with a certain sense of nostalgic awe), others I discovered more recently and became very attached to in a very short space of time. It's only natural to hope for good news regarding them, right? Likelihood: Certain... for some at least. I've spread the goalposts as wide as can be for this one. I can't fail to be pleased! Can I?
  5. Welcome to the official topic for the Nintendo 2012 E3 broadcast. I'll update this post more over the coming days and during the conference to make it easier to find the big news related to Nintendo at E3. STREAM LINKS: --- (Links in here) WHAT TO EXPECT? - Hordes of adoring fans, rushing to the stage to get a glimpse of The Regginator - Games, games and more games - Wii U information - More amazing .GIF material - Sales figures of how well the 3DS is doing this year - Finalized Wii U Design - Castlevania: Mirror of Fate trailer - Pikmin 3 What we want: - 3D HD Pokemon RPG - Mother 4 - New Mario - New Metroid - New Star Fox - New Zelda - Reggie one-liners - More games Hardware Controller to be called 'Wii U Game Pad'. 'Proper' analogue sticks with 'click button' rather than 3DS-style thumb pad. Game Pad is also a TV remote. Wii U Pro Controller (above) - looks very much like 360 controller with right stick and buttons swapped. Some sort of Wii U internet hub for discussion on help for games and what-not. Smartphone app for Nintendo network/Wii U internet hub shown. 'Mii Wara Wara'/'Miiverse' - the home screen for the Wii U is akin to 3DS' Streetpass Plaza. Miiverse can be accessed by all games - e.g. after dying on Mario speech bubbles will pop up on the black screen saying 'Can't believe I died there!' etc. Can post screenshots from your Wii U. Curtains. Not all features at launch. Software Castlevania: Mirror of Fate - (Thread Link) (Info from E3 in here) Software (Info about games in here) Downloadable Titles (eShop info in here) But Patticus, how do you make sure you're ready?
  6. This topic is being created with the sole purpose of granting you, our beloved forumites and dear friends, an easy means of identifying exactly when each of the major press conferences of this year's E3 take place in relation to your own time zone. Konami's conference is one June 6th at 9:00AM PDT / 12:00PM EDT / 5:00PM BST / 8:00AM AEST. Countdown clock: Clicky here! There may not be much discussion in here, but I'll leave the topic open, just in case.
  7. It's that time of year again! The time we're treated to a barrage of often funny memetic animated gifs and other images centered on the videogame industry's biggest trade show. Most of these pictures originate on the NeoGAF forums, which we are only too happy to shamelessly steal them from. The Rule of Two Rules (or How Courtesy Does Us All Good) 1. Please don't quote image tags without a spoiler box, or better yet just remove the image tags entirely, because the image still has to load even if it's in a spoiler box. Not all of us are equipped with fast internet, and pages full of quoted gifs are a pain to navigate to say the least. 2. Please don't post the same gif multiple times. Once is quite enough. Let us begin with this happy little pre-E3 trio...

For my part, I will be unable to join in the live stream festivities this year due to full time work commitments, but I will be trying to watch one conference a night most of that week on my TV via the Wii U (hoping against hope that YouTube has all the conferences up, as the system won't play Gametrailers etc videos on its web browser) and I hope to not fall too far behind on the news front too.
