  1. This is the meaty bit but the whole interview is on Abbey Road Institute's YouTube channel. Brad Buxer spoke to Abbey Road Institute in Paris back in May and talked about his professional relationship with Michael Jackson. As part of that topic, he uses a Sonic 3 anecdote to illustrate how a lot of the work attributed to Jackson was developed by Buxer instead - what Buxer calls the 'blank slate' approach to their collaborations. We covered it on the site here, but here's the major quotes. The rest was history. Well, Stranger in Moscow's history anyway.
  2. A new character, Knuckles the Echidna, is the guardian of a very special Emerald. This is called the Master Emerald, and it is even more precious and powerful than all of the seven Chaos Emeralds. The Master Emerald is situated on the Floating Island, and Knuckles has sworn to protect it - no matter what. Robotnik, still licking his wounds after Sonic 2, believes that the Master Emerald could power his Death Egg! He tricks Knuckles into letting Robotnik on his side, and therefore have access to the Master Emerald. Knuckles is in turn fooled into thinking that Sonic and Tails are the bad guys! As Sonic and Tails reach Angel Island, Knuckles nicks off with all of Sonic's Chaos Emeralds. It's up to Sonic to save the day. Well, here we are with Sonic 3, which has had a total overhaul in graphics and gameplay. Sonic and Tails look much better than they did in Sonic 2, and this game brings a new addition to the Sonic party in the form of Knuckles the Echidna. This native redhead is on Robotnik's side, and will do everything in his power to bring Sonic down. Sonic and Tails have a lot on their plate - bring down Eggman, evade Knuckles and to retrieve all seven Chaos Emeralds? No pressure, guys. Fatboy is pretty wary of Sonic's actions after the last two games, so he has made sure that every act of every zone is covered by a boss robot. While these guys aren't as difficult as Robotnik, these Act 1 guardians do get meaner as you progress. But so does Robotnik, who still makes an appearance at the end of Act 2 of every zone. At the very end, you must infiltrate Eggman's Launch Base Zone and bring his evil plans to an grinding halt! After Knuckles scarpered off with all of Sonic's precious Chaos Emeralds, it's your job to get them back! You do this by finding a giant ring anywhere within a zone - jump through it and you will be taken to an all-new 3D Special Stage! To complete, you must collect blue spheres, while avoiding the red ones. Run over all of the blue spheres and you gain a Chaos Emerald. Running around groups of spheres (say, running over the outside of a square of blue spheres), will make rings appear. If you collect all of the rings possible in a Special Stage, you will gain a 'Perfect' 500,000 points (an extra life). No more will you have to depend on repeating each level to complete the game each time you turn the Mega Drive off. Why? Because of Sonic Team's backup save data which is included on the cartridge. Start a game in any of the 'NEW' spaces and whenever you complete a zone, the file you are playing will automatically save for you. You can start a game as Sonic, Tails, or Sonic & Tails - and now Tails can use his flying abilities in game. If two players are playing (Sonic & Tails), Player 2 can fly and grab hold of Sonic so he can reach places that he normally can't! Cool, eh? Sonic Team has taken everything from the last two Sonic games and made them 10 times better. One particular feature I'm talking about is the advanced 2-Player competition. You can now race a Grand Prix (a set of levels played one at a time), a Match Race (just one level race) and a Time Attack mode where you can race any level and test your speed! You can set items in play, and these include banana skins, enemies, rings, speed shoes, slow shoes and the switch around item from Sonic 2. AAAAND, you can play as either Sonic, Tails or even Knuckles! Without a doubt, this is one of (if not the) best Sonic games you can possibly get for the Mega Drive! If you find it, get it! NOTE: This was given a score of 9/10 at time of original publication. We have converted its score to the below 5-star rating based on this score, and adjusted to best represent the original intent and sentiment of the overall article. 3. When Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are locked together, they produce one of the greatest Sonic the Hedgehog games ever made. This page largely focuses on the changes between playing the games together compared to playing them individually. Our extensive guide starts off with when Sonic and Tails defeat Eggman at Launch Base. You don't fight Big Arms from Sonic 3 in this extended version, which is nice. You are then moved on to S&K's Mushroom Hill Zone, but SEGA have added an extra scene to the beginning of it. It features Knuckles being very sneaky and hiding something. Investigate when Knuckles leaves, and you realise its a giant ring. If you've already got all of the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic 3, you'd be wondering why the heck this would be here. The ring is actually multicoloured and when you jump into it, it takes you to the Hidden Palace Zone! Why? Well, if you've got all of the Chaos Emeralds, you can start to collect the SUPER Emeralds, which go alongside the Master Emerald. You might think that this is totally pointless, but get them all and you can turn into... HYPER SONIC, HYPER KNUCKLES AAAAAANNNND...... SUPER TAILS! Yes that's right, all you Tails fans can now rejoice that you can now control him in Super form. For Knuckles fans, the big draw for this locked-on experience is that you now can play the Sonic 3 stages as the gullible red echidna. Unlike Sonic & Tails' story, you fight BOTH bosses on Launch Base, but hey, Knuckles's story is shorter, so there :D. Anyway, after Launch Base, a robotic 'Eggman' drops a bomb on the Launch Base, and Knuckles get caught in the explosion throwing him into the Mushroom Hill Zone. Again, you get a special scene here if you are playing Sonic 3&K, with a giant ring. When Knuckles enters the ring he is taken to the Hidden Palace, just like Sonic and Tails. Seeings as Tails does not get a part in Sonic & Knuckles, when you do get to play him in Sonic 3&K, there's certain areas that are inaccessible to Sonic and even Knuckles. This is because of his flying ability. Knuckles can glide and climb, but he can't hover in mid air and not lose altitude, only Tails can do this. You can use this to your advantage in Hidden Palace Zone, where you can fly high into the sky and find a platform full of these goodies, with two more ring monitors and a 1-Up nearby that. All this hype about special hidden areas, you'd thought we'd forgotten about Sonic, eh? Well, think again, because Sonic is the star of the show, and the reason that The Sonic Stadium is here. In fact there WAS a level I erm, 'forgot' to mention in S&K. That level was the VERY last one, and that was The Doomsday Zone. After you defeat Eggman on the Death Egg, if you have all of the Chaos Emeralds and Super Emeralds, you can enter this final battle between HYPER SONIC and Eggman as he tries to get away with the Master Emerald into Space. Thankfully, air isn't a problem for Super, or even Hyper Sonic. This level has Sonic transform into either Super Sonic or Hyper Sonic and using your provisional 50 rings, you must try to stay as your alter-ego for as long as possible until you complete the level, by collecting rings. Run out of rings, and you transform back and fall to your death. Defeat Eggman for the last time and peace will be finally restored! Now, this is what it's all about - this was the main intention of Sonic 3, however the remaining part of the story had to be carried over to Sonic & Knuckles, but boy was it worth it! All the goodness of Sonic 3, playing as Knuckles to open previously inaccessible pathways, playing Sonic & Knuckles levels in a two player co-operative mode, with the addition of Tails, and the final apocalyptic ending with Hyper Sonic! This... is a legend, not a game. Believe it. Oh, and buy it. NOTE: This was given a score of 10/10 at time of original publication. We have converted its score to the below 5-star rating based on this score, and adjusted to best represent the original intent and sentiment of the overall article. 5. So long story short, while I was away at Uni my Dad's girlfriend moved in and without consulting me at all seemed to just "throw away or donate" (no idea which one) a load of things in my room which I had not prior put into a box and put in storage. Things like the first and only PC I made as a kid which of course I never got around to clearing or even saving whatever pictures or such I had on there, as well as this... My prized possession which my Dad got for me as a kid. He used to work in finance at SEGA UK and was able to get me things like this. It hung pride of place on my far wall in my bedroom and was something I was going to have up in whichever house I finally settle down in as an adult. But nope. I learned recently that it's gone and has been so for while since after all this time when I first enquired of it's ware abouts was told that it was either in storage in the attic or under the eves. After a recent phone call I found that this was just a lie as to not bring up problems between his gf and me... (there's already a huge rift between my sister and her...). So anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone happened to see and even purchase this from a charity shop around the Surrey, I'm guessing Wallington area...? I very much doubt I'll get it back but I figured either here or Reddit might be my best shot! And even if I can't get it back to know it's in a good home would at least give me some solace.
  6. When I was growing up, I always thought of Knuckles as being the serious, solemn character who is slightly naive in certain places. It was an interpretation that has stuck with for years until someone posted a few posts that challenged this view of the character. I am aware that Knuckles was something of a trickster in Sonic 3 and Sonic Triple Trouble but I had no idea that he was supposed to be a joke character. Someone pointed out that one of the rival fights in Sonic the Fighters was played up as a joke as opposed to a serious rival fight. I never thought Knuckles as a "joke character" but I had not considered that Knuckles was not as "serious" as he pretended to be. To be honest, I was somewhat shocked that Knuckles was treated as a joke in those games as I always assumed that Knuckles was a somewhat serious character but I was wrong about him. What do you do you think about this? Was Knuckles ever a serious character? Did this revelation Knuckles was a joke change your view of the character? And what does that this revelation mean for Knuckles appearances in other Sonic media?
  7. I've been playing S3&K with blue knuckles(AKA Character Number 4 Code: FFFF0A:0004) for awhile now I decide to do a full playthrough with him anyway, When I got to Hydrocity ACT.2 I went in a special stage and I accidentally triggered debug mode, after the special stage I GOT TURNED INTO A BRICK I quickly did some research about this and... I found nothing, I realized that I found a glitch that is easy to do and is funny so I instantaneously started recording I was worried it was a one-time thing but I did it again and it worked here's a video, https://www.dropbox.com/s/xe9xt4ai6r1k4oa/My Video (1).mp4?dl=0 Maybe we can name Brick Knuckles, Bricklkes the Echidna? Bricks the Echidna? you can decide in the comments if you want. Edit: I'm sorry if the dropbox flie didn't work it should now be up and running now
