  1. http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2015/07/this-is-the-playstation-that-nintendo-never-released/ This is an amazing piece of gaming history. Never thought we'd ever see one of these surface.
  2. So it seems the old photography thread got lost in the wipe. At least, my original post did. This is kind of a good opportunity though, I suppose, as it's a chance to make my original intent clear with the older thread. So, we have the Post Your Pictures thread already. It never really saw much use, but the purpose behind it was to take pictures of random stuff and just show SSMB your snapshots. That's totally cool, but not exactly what this thread's intention is. I want to focus more on art photography in particular. High quality gear is not required, but very heavily encouraged. It's not quite as expensive as you think! Entry level cameras fall around the range of video game consoles, and go down in price quite steeply during big sales like Black Friday. Personally, I'm using this - Sony a6000 $698 on Amazon 80% on DPReview DPReview is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn about cameras. Best there is, imo. If you're in the market for a camera, consult that site first and foremost. The best entry level cameras of 2014 - Fujifilm X-M1 $599 on Amazon 77% on DPReview Nikon D5200 $646 on Amazon 79% on DPReview $699 on Amazon 76% on DPReview Now I know what you're all thinking - should I go mirrorless or dslr DSLRs have a wider variety of natively compatible lenses, slightly better night performance, and better battery life. Mirrorless cameras are substantially smaller and lighter, perform faster, and are better for video. It's up to you what you value most, but personally, I think mirrorless cameras are the future and the much smarter investment right now. If you have any questions regarding equipment or technique, ask away here. I'm more than happy to help and discuss. On to photos! I took a ton since I got my camera last November, so it would be stupid to post literally everything haha. The more photographers on here the better!
  3. Monday, June 9th 18:00PM PST / 21:00PM EST / 02:00AM BST (June 10th) Official Stream | Gametrailers | Eurogamer | IGN | UStream Welcome to the Sony E3 2014 Conference thread! We have existing topics for the other two, it's only suitable we have on for Sony right? Sony's conference was recently dated for 9th June at 6pm PT, and is set to reveal a lot of existing and new titles for the Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and (hopefully) Playstation Vita, including existing big names like the upcoming Uncharted 4. Audiences have been given the chance to see it streamed live in select cinemas (check out the above video), and invites have gone out to the press for the event. This thread is for discussion, hopes and speculation regarding the conference and what they'll show off, and eventual reaction when the day comes around. Looking for other E3 conference times, and their threads?

For my part, I will be unable to join in the live stream festivities this year due to full time work commitments, but I will be trying to watch one conference a night most of that week on my TV via the Wii U (hoping against hope that YouTube has all the conferences up, as the system won't play Gametrailers etc videos on its web browser) and I hope to not fall too far behind on the news front too.
  5. http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/sony-registers-domain-names-for-a-potential-bioshock-movie A Bioshock film had been planned before but was axed, presumably due to disagreements on the creative team over whether to aim for an 18+ or younger demographic film. Now however, it looks like interest has been renewed! What makes this notable is that all registered domains have "movie" in the URL; this indicates they are clearly meant for a film rather than a new game in development. The domains were registered about a month ago. Do you think the film will take a note from the original two games, or Infinite? I'm inclined towards the first two simply because Infinite makes more sense when the first two are taken into consideration. All I know is... Sony is clearly looking to make itself the next Disney whatever angle they take. With confirmed Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Last of Us, and Gran Turismo films, and speculative Sonic the Hedgehog and BioShock films... can anyone stop the Sony Empire?!
  6. This topic is being created with the sole purpose of granting you, our beloved forumites and dear friends, an easy means of identifying exactly when each of the major press conferences of this year's E3 take place in relation to your own time zone. Konami's conference is one June 6th at 9:00AM PDT / 12:00PM EDT / 5:00PM BST / 8:00AM AEST. Countdown clock: Clicky here! There may not be much discussion in here, but I'll leave the topic open, just in case.
  7. http://www.eurogamer...incoming-report http://www.eurogamer...g-image-spotted Seems a bit odd to do this when they already have ModNation Racers, but I love kart racers (as long as they're good), so I won't complain. Look forward to seeing more of this whenever Sony decides to officially announce it to the public.
  8. http://www.kotaku.co...any-as-a-whole/ That'll teach them for hiring someone courtesy of a talent show. The man's chances of being hired as a PR guy elsewhere just fell off a cliff, too; slagging off previous employers isn't looked at too favourably by many. Still, when it comes to certain aspects of advertising and PR, Sony hasn't exactly been great.

Additionally, rumors continue to persist regarding a 'Steambox' system from Valve, and who knows what else we might be shocked and awed by? The likes of Zynga are in attendance this year as well, so it will be interesting to see how seriously the media takes social gaming against announcements from the other major players. So, what do you want to see and what do you hope to see?
  10. I am hoping that, if we have a look back at past console unveilings, by Nintendo and the other guys, we'll get a little insight into how much depth Nintendo will go into at this year's E3. Maybe. Possibly. And if not, we can still look back at reveals old and new and have a good laugh and/or discussion. Some were good, some were bad, some were pure bullshit! The Xbox 360 reveal is still pretty amazing to me, as, at the time, they seemed to be ticking all the right boxes, and in 2005 all that online stuff was revolutionary for a console. Live integration, achievements, game invites etc, it was a huge leap from what the original Xbox was capable of. Will we see a similarly big leap from MS again? Or Nintendo; will they do the right thing and bring industry standard online features to the Wii-U? Hmmm! And, er, how about those prototype N64 cartridges, eh? Jesus. You could kill someone with those things. If anyone would like to post some of the other console unveilings which Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega and Sony have untaken, feel free to go ahead. Hell, that's what this topic is here for; getting insight into what we might see from Nintendo this year, and Sony & MS next year or beyond.
  11. Sony wants to interrupt your actual game time with ads! http://www.eurogamer...ming-with-an-ad Picture the scene; after an hour of fighting through hordes of enemies and solving a couple of fiendish puzzles, you finally make it to the end, when out of nowhere the lord of all evil appears and challenges you to destroy him before the entire world is vaporised. You sigh, summon up your last vestiges of strength and step forward to battle. Just before your first blow hits, the screen freezes for a second, and then this appears... Fuck off Sony. You are not going to fucking put commercial breaks into my quality game time.
  12. This sort of prediction I believe was already made by someone on the board (was it Tornado? Can't remember), but now it's being made by someone in the industry: Source I think, at this point, this topic deserves a discussion in its own right, now. This raises two major questions. 1) How likely is it for either Sony or Microsoft to bow out of the next generation of consoles? 2) Would either bowing out be good or bad for the industry? Firstly, let's look at the state of Sony and Microsoft as they are now, and how things went for them this generation. Starting from data gathered on NeoGAF concerning each console maker's earnings over the past several years (excluding 2011, if anyone knows where to find data on that, it would be much appreciated), plus a graph... Examining the graph, the writing is pretty clearly on the wall. Profits-wise, the PS3 was a catastrophic failure for Sony, even if they possibly did pick up in 2011 (don't know if that's the case yet), because it pretty much lost them virtually all the profits they gained from both the PS1 and PS2. Last I checked, the Vita is doing pretty badly in Japan (unless someone corrects me), so this whole gen has not been a good one for Sony. Even when it was losing, Nintendo was still making a ton of cash. The original XBox was never a profitable piece of hardware for Microsoft. And the 360, while it's doing better (as in, not causing Microsoft to lose money), it's still nowhere near the level to make up for the massive loss in cash Microsoft suffered from its predecessor, if the trend shown by the graph is of any indication, and I swear I heard somewhere that investors are clearly not happy with Microsoft's gaming division. Really, I wouldn't be surprised at all if either company dropped out. Sony lost two entire generations worth of profits from the PS3 alone, and Microsoft are still trying to recover the loss they suffered from the original XBox. Now, this leaves us with the second question. While variety and competition is not a bad thing, in an industry where games and consoles are getting more expensive, three consoles on the market might be a bit much for gamers who want to play some great games, especially if said games are exclusive to one console. One hardware maker dropping out would probably result in the same thing that happened to Sega, which started making third-party games instead of first-party - not exactly a bad thing, less money you need to spend on hardware to get exclusives. However, anyone who preferred the hardware of one company over the others wouldn't want to have to settle for the one who stayed in the running just because their favored hardware maker started making third-party games instead. I guess it's mostly personal preference, really. So, yeah. Thoughts?

  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14948701 Oh dear... Apparently you can opt out if you write to their office in Los Angeles within 30 days. If you don't agree to the new clause and waive your rights, you will not be able to sign in to PSN, and are effectively banned until you agree. Also apparently, the Supreme Court made this kind of thing accepting in a ruling a few months ago. Interestingly, the same practice is already everywhere: The ability of members of the general public to gather together to sue companies is being hacked to pieces. People may still sue individually, via arbitration, with all of the costs that entails, but because of those costs and the lack of collective force, people will simply be discouraged from suing altogether.
