But the biggest sin of all? Aside from Mickey, Donald and Goofy, you can’t use ANY Disney characters. Anywhere. In any world. I just... why?!

Probably because disney are very protective of certain characters and don’t  want them in questionable scenes. Especially the Frozen cast. But yeah I agree, data greeting is kinda disappointing overall. Especially areas like The Caribbean.

Btw, did anyone catch that bit in the Re: Mind story stuff where Saix purposely triggers Xion’s memory. Thought that was a neat detail.

Also just fyi in case people didn’t know. Attraction flows can be officially turned off on lower difficulties through the premium menu. It’s not limited to critical

I did not notice the Disney characters aren't in Data Greeting so I guess that's where I'm at wrt their contribution to the series.

It’s most noticeable to me in the Caribbean. Like as a whole DG disappoints me with the lack of areas(especially the Disney ones), but the character pools you can use in certain areas being so small especially hurts it to me. I get why the Disney characters weren’t heavily used outside the essentials, but I would have at least liked the cast that was available to be used in all these scenes. It’s not like the consistency of their designs matter when it’s perfectly fine to have human Riku in toy box or monstropolis, so would it really be a big deal to have him in the Caribbean or Shibuya? I’m also kinda baffled characters like Ienzo, Ansem the Wise, and Demyx, and the twilight town gang, just straight up aren’t there.

Ive seen a lot of posts about how the Xbox ports of the games leave in the PlayStation button commands in a few areas, and I can’t help buy laugh at whenever I see this. (IlaughbutinsideimjealoustheyhavethebetterBBSsaveandloadsystem)

How is the save system different on Xbox?

On PS3/PS4/PSP - the games were designed to use the system's own version of saving, instead of the typical save menu the other games in the series have. For example, the PS3 instead of having unique save menus for the majority of their games - you instead just have the screen go black, save appears in the top left, and you just choose to create a new save.

It's difficult to explain, but generally - it was standardised saving instead of the unique menu systems (and 99 slot capacity) that KH games had up until KH3. Birth by Sleep is the only game in the series effected by it because it was the only game developed for a Sony console during the time period the standardised system was used for game saving. Sony more or less threw it out around the PS4 or so. The collections still use their original versions of saves (So for KH1, COM and KH2 - They use the save menu), while BBS defaults to the standardised saving system because that was the one it was originally designed for.

Sony more or less got rid of it by the PS4 - while there was a standardised save system in the early days, devs weren't restricted to using it, meaning unique ones could still be made (See - Persona 5 or KH3). However, since again - collections use their original save menus, BBS keeps getting defaulted to that.

However, since the Xbox doesn't have the standardised save system like Sony's consoles had (the closest being when you pick a hard drive to save in at the start of a 360 title), Square had to create a completely unique save system for BBS when they ported it to Xbox consoles. The result was a typical 99 save slot save system being created for BBS.

Basically what Ryan said. The save system on PS3 was super cluttered and messy imo. Especially when you would make new files for new episodes, and did second and third playthroughs on new files. Made managing files a chore. With Xbox using the typical kh save system, it’s a lot more concise and to the point

Sora’s reaction prompts even still pulse with a triangular light.

I'm pretty sure it still does that in 3 as well. I'm not gonna fault them for that, but it's pretty dumb to miss putting a Y button in the menus or reaction command jpegs.

Hopefully this isn’t another mobile game, data miners are suggesting it possibly could be a console title

That sounds a lot like a mobile kind of title.

Interesting thing to note, whenever the K in Kingdom and the S in Hearts have long... tails, I guess, Sora isn't the main protagonist.

What could this mean... 👀

This is Eraqus’s and Xehanort’s master. EaoCd6dUwAARyWg?format=jpg&name=900x900Master Odin....yeah the fanfare to this isn’t as big for obvious reasons. I always imagined it would be a big hype moment to see their teacher, but nope...I mean I appreciate the FF summon callback at least. But his first appearance really should have been in a proper Kingdom Hearts title.

Melody of Memory is a rhythm game, releasing for all three console platforms (including the Switch) this year:

This being a Kingdom Hearts game, it'll still have further plot.

You've got to be kidding me...

Right, so let's begin.

  • Rhythm games aren't exactly the strong suit of this series, given both KH2's atrociously bad music sections, and Ice Cream Beat from BBS
  • Why are we still using the fucking PS2 era models? These consoles are more than capable of handling KH3's models. Switch might need some downgrading, but still.
  • Are we seriously doing Kingdom Hearts 1 again? For the FOURTH time??
  • So to be clear - we can't get Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 on the Switch, but what we can get is Square showing us the Switch can easily handle both games by using the same models, and worlds?

Oh lord, I don't think I've been this disappointed in a Kingdom Hearts title in a long, long time.

Indeed, and on top of that, to add a extra touch of salt - this is seemingly the Kairi game people have longed for - the framing device seems to be this is where they're trying to search Kairi's memories for any trace of Sora after KH3.

This doesn't look all that interesting mechanically. It would have been nice if iconic cutscenes were redone in higher quality, but it seems to be playing the same ones or reusing assets from those 20 year old games.

I own the soundtracks to these games a couple times over too so I think I'll pass on this. The new Kairi lore will be on YT when it's out.

At least the KH3 soundtrack is coming!

140 songs! Awesome.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the ending thing was just a teaser thing for an upcoming Kairi game. This rhythm game focuses on Data Sora, I believe.

Also, we're in phase 2 of Kingdom Hearts now, apparently.

The side there also says "3 new stories, 6 new playable characters. We have two more games to be announced after Melody of Memory. Not sure what the arrows and mostly empty boxes are for though.

Pretty sure if this is coming to Switch then the collections will too.

EDIT: Translated info from the official site.

I'm pretty sure Kairi parts are part of Melody of Memory, since according to translations someone (I think Young Xehanort?) says those specific words (Melody of Memory I mean).

Honestly, I don't really hate this? It sucks that she didn't get her own game, but at this point I didn't expect anything at all. 140 songs is nice, using older models is kinda eh, but if it's a lower-budget game that's also coming to Switch, I don't mind (cutscenes are gonna be in video format on Switch I bet, Switch is just too weak to handle a somewhat demanding UE4 game that was made for current-gen consoles, no matter how much you scale it). Overall not super happy, but I can't say I hate this.

I laughed when I saw "2nd Phase" - I guess we're Marvel now? Okay, sure.

Other news that haven't been mentioned - KH Dark Road is coming in 5 days (in Japan at least); KH3 soundtrack is coming Fall 2020 (thank god), more KHUX story coming, and 2 new figurines for Ichiban Kuji, a lottery thing in Japan (the one thing Nomura gave a hint to in a tweet a couple hours ago fucking stop doing that).

And yeah, 2 more projects for the phase makes sense - a game from the 4th dev team and the main Osaka game are things we know nothing about at this point.

I'm in for the next hack-n-slash that comes along and I hope it somehow manages to be Kairi focused but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't even get it, they had a model for KH1-era Sora, as well as both Donald, and Goofy made for KH3. Why the hell are we back at KH1 on PS2, complete with Sora's dumbass potato default face?

Hell, they couldn't even move him into his KH2 appearance for when he's fighting Xemnas?

This is hilariously tone deaf on square Enix’s side. And the fact they have the Gaul to call this “phase 2” like it’s some hype MCU shit is even more hilarious. Also hilarious how this canonically is after KH3, but it’s the first game for Switch owners. Like...lol

also of course the Master of Masters is here. MoM/Melody of Memory, yknow

I dunno what you mean by tone deaf, but considering this is the part of the next overarching plotline that started with Re:Mind, it being called phase 2 makes sense.

Personally I've been wanting a KH rhythm game for a while now, and the gameplay looks really fun! I do wonder what other playable characters there are aside from Sora.

I think on its own looks fine, I’ll probably get it. I always figured they’d do one of these games after the success of theatre rhythm (I think they even in a interview once said they’d like to do one). I just think it being the first, possibly only, Switch KH game after so much asking for the ports that even got on Xbox, is funny, especially since it’s a plot heavy game that takes place after 3/Re:Mind

but anyways, that aside, a few more thoughts. To start judging by the Pixar trademark, I take it we’ll probably see FMV’s of the KH3 Disney worlds or something. Multiplayer is neat. Didn’t expect that.

This shit better not be full priced tho. I know Square like to take their fans for a ride because they know they can cause of how loyal Square Enix fans can be, but like this being full priced with a expensive collectors edition and shit would actually baffle me, especially if people hyped that shit up. At best I could see this being like 40 bucks with a 60 dollar deluxe edition, but even that kinda rubs me wrong, especially if there’s pre order exclusive stuff. This is a music game after all, they could very well go balls to the walls with monetization on this with music packs or something. So I’m cautiously watching this game

Oh also guess this kills the K & S theory
