Eddie Lebron Sonic Movie: New Teaser Trailer!

In retrospect the environment definitely needs more work if they ever do more CGI on  real life action.

Granted, that's only on closer inspection... I didn't actually notice it while watching. But maybe it's one of those subconscious things your brain takes note of and puts in evidence towards the "This is fake" argument.

Truly, this fan film is the film that keeps on giving.

Doug Walker

The Room

Sonic

There is a connection here, I can't put my finger on it...

Major bump.

If the finished film had Doug Walker playing Robotnik as an Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonator VS Doug Walker as Chester A. Bum as Sonic, that would had greatly improved the film IMO.

Why is the Nostalgia Critic not funny anymore?

Edit: Okay the last 30 seconds made me smile a little.

Ok...I know I'm really late but I finally watched this "movie"..I only ever saw that clip of Knuckles WITH FINGERSWTFFGHGJGH

Anyway, it was bad. The Room bad, and just like The Room it was hilarious in its badness. Sonic's CG model wasn't great, Jaleel White was SO CHEESY and WTF was up with the cameos? Did they really have to be there? What was the point?! I guess Dr Eggman wasn't too bad though...

I commend the guy for at least trying to make this fan film, and heaven forbid it wasn't as God awful as other Z grade movies like Birdemic. But if you can make such big mistakes as Knuckles with fingers, how can you be a fan of Sonic? IS he a fan of Sonic (I don't feel like going through this topic to find out)? I have to wonder...

Anyway, this is up there with The Room but not as horrible as Birdemic. IT'S SOMETHING.

He said that he is but after watching this it's kinda hard for me to tell.

His film-making abilities aside, I don't doubt his personal fandom. At the end of the day, this piece was basically fanfiction on a massive scale: he took the things he liked about the series and threw them together with his own personal touch to present a work to an audience. Giving Knuckles fingered gloves (honestly, I doubt he's got some freaky fused mitten for a hand) and other quirks should not call into question his love of the franchise. He's on record for saying he's a fan, so I take him at his word.

Tsk. If he says he's a Sonic fan, why did he make a huge error like that? Honestly, I hope there isn't a sequel for this so I don't have to see a stiffly animated FLUFFY echidna with fingers who puts the Pakistani McDonalds Knuckles to shame. =|

Edit: Again, I commend Eddie Lebron for at least trying and I don't have anything against him at all. But no way was this made in a few years and no way is this a good fan film.

I can see this being made in a few years. Making a film is time-consuming and tedious. It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of it. To just get a film done, you will invest a significant amount of time, energy, and sometimes money to seriously see it through:

A film just isn't conceived and then comes to life through mere diligence. It's a constant rotation of ideas and refinement from conception to wrap-up. Things get discussed, tested, debated, changed, tweaked, and thrown out among yourself and other collaborators. A script has to be written, proofread, and edited. Stuff has to be storyboarded and sometimes animatics made, which means people sitting down and desks and computers drawing the whole film out, shot by shot, sometimes action by action, using the proper terminology and jargon to keep track of panels, pages, camera moves, and actions. Actors have to show up and be directed. Things have to get filmed. People have to operate the equipment and check it and make sure it's working properly. Stuff has to be fixed when it breaks down. Green screen needs to be set up right. Takes have to be done and redone and redone again until the best performance is secured. Voice acting needs to be done, which means calling up Jaleel and striking a deal with him which takes time and negotiation. Costumes need to be conceived of, designed, sewn, and fitted to their respective actors.

If CGI is added, that means you need various artists and technicians in the field: modelers, riggers, texture artists, lighters, animators, and others, all of whom are collaborating back and forth and working in tandem. This animation can't be done right? The rig's sent across the aisle to get fixed if time permits. Meanwhile, the modeler may be working on a higher quality model to be referenced into the animation later on. Texture artists and lighters are slaving away to make sure environments and models look good without bogging down the program speed using technical prowess I still can't comprehend despite my four years of schooling. Project files need to be set up correctly so you can reference things without breaking stuff. Stuff has to be rendered which, depending on how well your scene is constructed and your access to high-quality render farms, can take days and even weeks. Film footage, CGI, and effects have to be composited together, which requires its own set of specialists sitting down for hours at a time for days on end. Editing has to be done to make sure the shots flow into one another in an aesthetically pleasing way that's significant to the narrative. Music has to be recorded by someone and added in. Titles and credits have to be done properly. The film has to be rendered out.

A film of this level of technical quality and length isn't just churned out in a month or two. It requires effort and time that most of you probably don't have the patience for. The fact that it ended up bad doesn't mean anything. For a film to truly see the light of day, and for it not to be completely and utter shit like film scratch or photographed kiddy drawings, you are basically opting to give up several months if not a few years of your life.

I saw the movie. It was okay, but to be honest, this wasn't really Eddie's best film. I mean, there were some areas in which the film could have had improvements. Still, to me, it was not too bad, but it wasn't too good either in my eyes.

....is it a huge mistake? I'd say changing the style of a characters gloves is soooooooo tiny a change. I don't get why so many people get caught up on that....

I hope they haven't seen the OVA, you should see the mistakes they make with knuckles in that one, they give him a hat.....or in SatAM where they give Sonic a backpack.....

Characters change for different incarnations. This film is a mixture between the archie and games series, so stuff's gonna be different. In this version of the sonic universe, Knuckles has fingers in his gloves.

As for the cameos, I've defended these in the past but....once more can't hurt. James Rolfe and Doug Walker (can't speak too much for the other cameos, never watched their stuff), are film makers and actors. These guys all meet up at conventions and become friendly, it's only natural they'd want to collaborate together. I honestly don't think they're in it for the sake of having a cameo by the Nostalgia Critic or the AVGN, they're more likely in it because their friend phoned them up, told them he was making a movie and asked if they wanted to help out....I don't see the problem...

..Then again, I'm the only person in the world that actually liked the film

Those are accessories the characters wear on top of the base character designs, which are faithful (minus Knuckles' miscoloured shoes in the OVA and American Sonic's design in general) to the original character designs. Knuckles' key feature and his namesake is in his hands, the most important part of his character design and something that isn't shared by a single other character in the series.

Adding a hat on top of his original design doesn't take away from those giant mittens; taking away those giant mittens takes away from his character.

I think what he's saying is that the design of Knuckles' gloves should reflect his skill at fisticuffs. Personally, I don't mind the idea of Knuckles having gloves with fingers. And they retained the spikes, so it really isn't that much of a change anyway!

Not when they've never come off, even once.  As far as SEGA is concerned, Knuckles's gloves are his hands.

The only character who has hands are the characters who are shown without their gloves.

So, I can only think of Sonic because of the werehog.

Wow.

It started off slow but after about a minute in it just became hilarious. Thank you for sharing!

I liked the film, personally.

I give him a lot of credit for trying to take all the various continuities and merge them into a new one (something I've done before myself), and all the hard work that went into it. Does it have drawbacks? Yes, of course it does. But I can tell good lord they tried.

So it has a lot of flaws. But I can find it enjoyable simply because it was made for the fans by the fans on a small budget. It could have used better CGI (clashes badly with the background) but so far a lot of the critiques seem YMMV: Knuckles' hands or Jaleel White's ability to be Sonic.

taking away those giant mittens takes away from his character.

Knuckles' fingers or lack thereof have never entered my mind when I think "Knuckles." I think his temper, his association with gems and the Master Emerald, his being the last of his kind, and of course, his namesakes.
