Generations 3DS Chat - Oh look guys new rules (p.58)

Oh, I found another pretty awesome little thing this game does. Unlike the HD version, Sonic air boosts in the direction you're pushing the control stick, not the direction he's currently facing. The latter really ticked me off in the HD version at times, especially because the jump dash DOES react to control stick direction, causing many a mix-up.

Tried it out online earlier and gotta say, frame rate is HORRIBLE. I mean it's a sacrifice you have to make I suppose, rather have choppy online than none at all, but goddamn. o_o

At this moment in time (1 being great, 7 being poor - based on overall product, not just gameplay)

1. Sonic Advance

2. Sonic Generations 3DS

3. Sonic Advance 2

4. Sonic Rush

5. Sonic Rush Adventure

6. Sonic Advance 3

7. Sonic Colours DS

Regarding online play, for me, the framerate drop hasn't been too bad. Versus is amazingly fun. I can get through the levels on single player just fine, but the moment I see that the yellow star representing the opponent has caught up, panic stations activate and mistakes are made.

I'm very positive about this game, and I haven't even started Water Palace and Tropical Resort yet :)

I've been playing it for a little while, just finished classic Radical Highway. I'm really mixed on Classic Sonic in here. Heck, at first I wasn't really liking him at all. The first three levels were literally all stuff I've played dozens of times before now, and there's something off about the controls- but I can't quite put my finger on it. And why the hell do we now have to jump on every single spring before we can use it? It completely kills the pacing. But I admit, Classic got a whole lot better once I opened Emerald Coast. Finally, brand spanking new level design, with some uber-nostalgic twists. While I'm not crazy about being forced to use the Homing Attack, it adds something new to the earlier levels.

Modern, on the other hand, I'm really liking. Kind of has a Sonic Advance 2 vibe, only with more platforming and boosting. Also, the music for Modern Casino Night. I looooove this 40's-esque soft jazz remix!

Buy this game. Really, I mean it. If you own a 3DS and like Sonic then buy this game. Youtube videos don't do this game justice; you need to see and play it hands on. It's FUN, and also very nicely presented in the graphics department. There's so much I could say about this, but I'm going to wait until I've completed everything.

Hmm, well it came out today in Europe so...I'll take your word into consideration :)

Heh, Gold Beetle cameo in Radical Highway is a pleasant surprise. (I can't remember which Act)

I'm loving the multiplayer, though the frame rate is dissapointing. And for the first time ever, I give a crap about my player card. It's a really nice touch that I can actually pick a relatively obscure character like Emerl as my favorite character.

So close..so close..3DS

Are we really surprised that they are 7 zones?..c'mon guys look at sonic rush..

I wish Modern's boss was Johnny and Whisker...except Classic fights Whisker and Modern fights Johnny plus Dimps could've been way more creative than egg emperor.

Even if the battle is more or less the same, my fave boss is Biolizard...and DAT music.

But I must say that Big Arm IS better than the Death Egg HD boss definitely IMO.

I was always more excited for the 3DS cos' the zones felt much better chosen.

SEGA..thank you so much for water palace!

bad connection with you or the one you played with. I got no frame rate problems cept one person. But I played over 20 times online with no problem.

So any news on what/who is in the 3DS's collection?

(The statue's room is now simply called "models" and there's some funny concept art of Blaze and Marine)

So...apparently the Biolizard boss only makes you move on one path, right? A bit disappointing, but having a crouch instead of only a somersault really helps against the orbs. (I've only seen it)

^To be fair the boss pretty much proves that, aside from the last phase, 3D is not really needed at all for it. The bubble popping part is so much nicer, though I'm not sure if it's just because it's 2D or because the homing attack aiming is just more reliable these days.

In terms of collection, I've been playing all the missions in order (I've had 300 Play Coins saved up from finishing Streetpass Plaza ages back).

Music-wise I haven't seen anything yet that wasn't on the HD version. As said, all vocal songs seem to be the shorter trailer versions.

Model-wise you get one for every "Special Challenge" (the final mission for each stage, usually 6th or 7th) you clear. All the poses seem to be unique but I might be wrong. No surprises in terms of characters yet, and oddly, unless they're further down the list in their own section, I can't see any spaces under Sonic, Tails or Eggman for their classic counterparts.

Art-wise, by finishing all missions in the classic era I have unlocked several bits of concept art and original sketches for - a nice surprise - Sonic Advance 3 and Sonic Rush Adventure. Including character expression sheet and references for Marine, and the original sketches of the Sonic Advance 3 Best Ending artwork, and Sonic and Amy's "Cute Couple" team artwork. There are also pieces called "1991 Illustration", "1992" Illustration" etc which are basically cropped portions of box art from the biggest Sonic release of that year.

Shadow's Sonic Rivals 2 pose huh. Pretty nice. Wonder how they'll handle Silver and Blaze there. Oh and I wonder what sketches we'll get.

Started collecting a few new pieces of music now. They included Tails and Amy's theme from SA1 (but not Sonic's oddly). They also threw in Emerald Beach from Sonic Battle in "slightly beefed up" Act 1 style form, though it's named "Sonic Stage".

Is it just me or is the point system in the multiplayer quite unfair? I mean, I battled someone and I got each time I won like 80 points, but when he won once, he got like 250 points of me! Happened this to someone else as well?

How many points did he have originally, if you out classed him in points that's completely normal, it happens all the time in any nintendo game with a point/rep system

But if you were basically at the same level, or were below his point count, then it is quite unfair

Well, I was much higher, but its still stupid if you have to do like 10 Races to get a certain score and lose all these earned points by loosing three times, in my opinion.

Fight for the glory, kid.

Edit: Okay, sorry, was in a hurry. What I mean is, it forces you into being good at the game and making efforts.

There was so much potential for some sort of epic Blaze rival battle with Vela Nova playing in the background. Even a race through Water Palace would of been great. Silver in Tropical Resort is quite unfitting.

Too bad I won't be picking up a 3DS for a while. I really want to pick up the game and go straight to online. I'm BEGGING for another Rush/Classic experience, especially for one on a handheld.

I agree they really should have made Blaze a rival on the 3DS instead of Silver. Nintendo players know her far better.

Exactly.

Is she even in this game? Silver didn't even have a game appearance while a Rush title did. (Same with Metal Sonic, but who cares)
