I'm not gonna walk around with my expensive new 3DS. I don't know what effect snowy below-zero temperature would have on it, and I'm not about to find out. I only played one mission and it unlocked some unused concept art that I've never seen before, so that was really neat. I don't care about the missions at all, but I would like to see the artworks.

If you don't walk around with it, how are you going to get Streetpass hits?

Shake the crap out of your 3DS, it always works and you get some awesome arm muscles.

Actually I've 100%'d my collection. Anyone want me to make a video of it all or has one already been done?

Yesh please, I've yet to see a video with the entire collection in it

Sure thing. Need to charge my camera but I'll see if I can get it up in an hour or two.

I'll worry about that when I find out I'm missing out on content I care about.

Next week, probably.

Is this game underrated? The metacritic score keeps slipping and some people are giving out 5/10 to the game. Does this game REALLY warrant a 5/10?

Yes.

If 5/10 is average, then yes, that's a fair score. But in these twisted ridiculous times where anything below a 7 means it's movie licence garbage, 5/10 is not a fair score.

I respect those brave few reviewers who try to use the whole 10 point scale, but they're fighting a lost cause.

One problem I came across yesterday is how you can actually get somewhat screwed over if you run out of boost in certain places. At least in the Rush and Colours DS games, Modern Sonic could still spin-dash, but they've taken it out here and I can't really see why.

Was racing someone online yesterday and ran out of boost shortly before a big vertical wall I was supposed to run up. There were no rings and no enemies anywhere nearby; needless to say I lost the race because of it. Maybe I'd have been able to make it if I'd had time to backtrack and get a huge run-up or find a dash pad, I don't know, but it was pretty frustrating.

I think Colours DS actually got the controls a little better, even if there wasn't much difference. Mostly the lack of Modern spin-dash here, as well as sliding by pressing down whilst running feeling rather clumsy (holding R was much more accessible, in my opinion).

When I played the demo at Gamescom, Modern didn't have tricks like in Rush. Is it still like that? That would kind of suck :/

I know. I hated that, but I understood that it was trying to copy Colors gameplay as much as possible. I thought this was supposed to be Rush gameplay.

it is pretty stupid. They contradict themselves. They have modern Sonic as 2D only because that's how handheld Sonic is. Yet they remove spindashing and tricks even though 2D modern Sonic gameplay relied on those things in the past, and they greatly (IMO) added to it's fun factor. Without those things modern Sonic's gameplay is to.........simple I suppose.

Ah, Nintendo Power's review was surprisingly retro purist. I didn't expect that. It wasn't bad, though. NP is a professional outlet, not a bunch of douches. So, they kept it at a minimum.

This game screams 6/10 or 7/10 to me, depending on how highly you value length and difficulty in your games.

No one ever said this was going to mimic Rush gameplay. true modern's acts look like Rush gameplay but unless it has the Rush logo slapped on the label your not going to see mechanics from Rush being used like the trick system.

If anything this is Colors DS gameplay.

Finally unlocked and completed all the missions yesterday, all I need to do now is get all the profile card designs and S ranks and I've 100%-ed this game!

...don't think I'll be in any hurry to do that though, especially as the profile card unlock requirements are quite, umm, unclear?

Also, one point I think needs to be made - the 2009 artwork in the Collection. DAT SONIC AND THE BLACK KNIGHT RENDER. I have never seen it before, I need to get my hands on it! :o

I'd say a 5/10 is perfectly justified.

Graphics: Hideous. Every level is a downgrade from he original. Even the Genesis levels.

Sound: Some songs aren't remixed at all, half the ones that are were barely even changed, and this monstrosity exists. There are a few gems, but comparing the soundtracks of JENURASHUNS and Generations is like comparing a couple of nuggets of gold found in a trash heap to El Dorado.

Story: In Sonic Generations, what's there is great, but there isn't nearly enough of it. In JENURASHUNS, there isn't much of anything there, and what is there sucks.

Gameplay: Bland and boring for both Sonics. Classic is a bastardization of the Genesis games that doesn't understand the point of having classic gameplay to begin with, and Modern Sonic is a downgrade of Sonic Rush. Both Sonics play almost exactly the same as well, with the only difference being Classic's inability to boost, and Modern's inability to spindash (a move he was able to use in all of Dumps' previous handheld games, but was likely taken out to keep him from being "Sonic with Boost".

Hell, I don't think a 4/10 would be out of place either, to be perfectly honest.

Eh, I disagree here. Green Hill looked GORGEOUS in 3D. Same with Casino Night and Mushroom Hill. Tropical Resort and Water Palace also looked great. I have to agree with Emerald Coast and Radical Highway. I guess the 3D to 2D transition just didn't work too great here.

Green Hill is changed (HD's track), Casino Night sounds sexy. Mushroom Hill was blasted as epic before it was even released. Big Arm is considered by some people as the #1 remixed track in both versions. Emerald Coast isn't as changed but it still rocks, Radical Highway Classic sounds AWESOME. Modern sounds like a toilet but it isn't as bad as I thought. The Special Stage tune could be my ringtone. Supporting me is still good, not sure if it is remixed. Water Palace and Tropical Resort both sound pleasing.

I personally preferred these tracks compared to the likes of City Escape and Planet Wisp/boss music.

I agree that they're downgrading the Rush Sonic. The tricks were a HUGE part of Rush and they made the game much more fun to play. Still saddened that they removed in Colors DS. Also, what happened to spin-dash? There is no reason to remove it as both Sonics are still in 2D. Forget slide, that move SUCKS. The Rush titles also had great art and details in the levels. The Dreamcast Era in Sonic Generations loses a lot of the detail and thus becomes empty. A lot of the levels also lost the great amount of multiple paths and shortcuts. Sure they still exist, but not as much as the Rush titles had.

I liked all the music, but it did bother me that whoever remixed Classic Emerald Coast and Radical Highway must have had zero communication with whoever stated the direction for all the other classic remixes.

Water Palace and Tropical Resort were just lazy. The rule of OCD allows me to say "WELL, Water Palace's remix has never appeared in a GAME before", and "WELL, "Classic" Tropical Resort could still be seen as a remix of the DS Tropical Resort".

But no.

Anyway, I took a bit longer than a couple of hours as I promised, but here's the 100% Complete Collection Room:
