He....he....

He's back...

Oh man, this is what I've been waiting for.

Not werehog, specifically, but this whole... porting thing. I mean, I knew Dario had started on it with Sonic Glvl, and I knew that he had recently made it available to all, but I did not expect people to work so fast. We've already got a nearly perfect-looking Werehog? That's insane.

Seriously, at the rate this is going, I would not be surprised if we soon have just about every canon Sonic character playable. I mean, a bunch of them work as just model swaps, a bunch work as model swaps with new animations (Vector, Eggman, who have yet to be done, unfortunately). On top of that, we can now port any model in and use those. So basically, the only ones I can see being a REALLY big challenge are people like Shade or Mighty who have never had a 3D model (or at least, not an HD one available to us).

I'm so excited for this and other future model imports. Keep up the good work, everyone!

How long would take to someone at Retro try to make a classic 2D level instead of a modern 3D one? I believe is easier, right?

I'm the guy doing stage layout design and music for Melpontro's Sky Troops -- we're making a Classic stage after we do the Modern one (figured the music would make it obvious, but just to be perfectly clear).

Speaking about Modern Sky Troops...

Azu, I forwarded your question to JoeTE since theres allot of commotion going on right now, he seems like the one best to know. He should be responding soon...

Awesome work on Sky troops guys. now what are you going to do about enemys and gimmicks for the stage? (falling scenery, cannons, etc.)

1.) Is it possible to force super sonic in the bosses using cheat engine? I'm not talking about a model swap.

Who was the guy? maybe if we prod him about it now he will let us know.

Any ideas on the second question?

There's probably no point in asking him by now. Remember, he did it back in November 2011. Tons of people were already asking him how he did it on his youtube video comments, and he has made no responses at all... And from what I've seen, he has had NO online activity at all since then... If he had (or has) even the slightest of intentions of telling us how he did it, he'd have done so a long time ago...

As for the second question, I have nothing. I've figured out how some of the LUA files work (especially the missionscript ones), but the ones mentioned in the question are completely beyond my know-how. And I wouldn't know anything about how to find files from Xbox360 games outside of illegal methods...

But it can be done and thats what counts. Mind if we see the video?

Hmm, maybe Melpontro or DarioFF then, thanks for your help JoeTE I look forward to your next supersonic mod update.

You don't need to be from Retro to make a stage... : P Especially not with how intuitive and easy to use the tools aim to be so anyone can give it a try.

As I always say, if you want something done properly, you gotta do it yourself. (Or at least take the initiative and see what happens)

We worked on Sky Troops a bit more

First off, I'd like to say that I really like the work you're doing. I do have some criticism though, the first section you have looks a little too easy seeing as you can just boost through with that spring right in the middle. Can't wait to see what else you do with this!

Edit: I understand this is a really early map but I just wanted to give some food for thought.

What I'm about to say may or may not please you, but it needs to be said:

I really, REALLY fucking hate asking for this, but I need donations, and I'll explain why:

In short: I've been working with Dario FF, Chimera and TwilightZoney on the Unleashed PC project, doing general beautification. Chimera and I are also designing the hub for the project. We're going to need to generate GIA for any custom modifications we do to the game, in or outside of this project.

You can donate via paypal to sonictheplumber@gmail.com

Global Illumination Ambiance (GIA) is all of that pretty and detailed lighting and shading you see around the stage. Hedgehog Engine is one of the few game engines that use this. Unreal Engine 3 running Mirror's Edge is the only other game/engine combo that does this to my knowledge, but I digress.

The problem with GIA generation is that it requires OODLES AND OODLES of power. SEGA used a render farm to create the GIA for Unleashed. I have enough computers lying about to make my own downscaled render farm, but I don't have enough graphics cards to do it. I need at least one nVidia GTX 470 to make this work. Using the delicious CUDA Cores in the 470, along with the three others I have in other computers in my house, I can create a render farm to make GIA for custom stages. The reason I'm choosing the GTX 470 is because of it's cost/power ratio. I can get one cheaply, so I don't need a whole lot of money to reach my goal (approx. $100-$150) I plan on first using this to make Global Illumination for the Unleashed PC hub world and my port of Sweet Mountain, coming soon to a theatre near you. And know this: I'M NOT TRYING TO SWINDLE YOU PEOPLE, I HAVE A TERRIBLE JOB AND CANNOT AFFORD THIS WITHOUT HELP. IF YOU WANT A PRETTY GAME, THIS IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST. I won't be able to use my computer for a few DAYS while the GIA is being rendered, so this isn't for lol vidya. Besides one 470 will take anything I throw at it, much less two or four.

Anyway, here's a taste on what I've done to Unleashed PC so far:

Replaced the most noticeably shitty textures in the game with stupid high quality ones (2048x2048 and higher. e.g. The grass is TEN TIMES the size of the original.)

Added Ambient Occlusion and HORY SHET THIS IS FUCKING NUTS Texture Filtering. Fucking pretty shit all up in hurr.

What's to come:

More extensive texture replacements

(If the donation is successful) higher quality shadows in Unleashed and Generations stages.

A new, much higher resolution video. The reason this video is so small is because I'm doing this all on an IDE Hard Drive from the late 1990s. If I were to record this at a high resolution, the bottlenecked transfer speeds would produce like an 11 FPS video. I'm getting a new HDD in the mail in the coming days, so expect a video around the same time.

Pay up, chumps. It's Global Illumination time. Think I'm full of shit? Feast your eyes, heretic: (I know it's too orange, shut up.)

ok, hellp, I am new to the commynitty, but I do have some modding experience, just finished the main part of the game the other day, and I noticed the lacking of quite a few characters(come on, adding classic knuckles wouldnt have been that hard), and I was really disappointed by the lack of the classic super robot sonic(technicly its not metal sonic, and I like its appearance a bit better infac, as it appeared from sonic 2 to sonic and knuckles long before sonic cd) in the sky sancturary level, so thought I would check out the modding communitty, see what is needed, and what has been done, get a few mods, and give a go at adding some stuff myself. so thought I would pop on here, ask if there are any mods that are really worth checking out yet(anything good that adds levels), and get my hands on the modding tools. if anyone is willing to give me a hand I would be grateful, and I think it would be kinda cool to add the rest of knuckles chaotix(from the old x32 game, quite a few fun memebers, like mighty, and the 2 bots), and maybe the other metal sonic from adventure. willing to listen, and willing to team up, already have max, and have done quite a bit of modelin in other engines, and ready to give a go on this one, I saw the link ot the modding tools, so time to give it a go(sorry if this is the wrong place to post this). also, has anybody looked at how they attached the casino city DLC, and seen if that method may be usable by mods? also, nice 3d hub, and classic super sonic

Uh, it would help us all greatly if you could put this into proper format, and possibly improve your grammar. Eh screw it, I'll correct it.

I think he's saying:

Ok, hello! I am new to the community, but I do have some modding experience. I just finished the main part of Sonic Generations the other day, and I noticed the lack of certain characters (Come on, wheres Classic Knuckles?). I was also disappointed by the lack of Mecha Sonic from Sonic 2/3/Knuckles in Sky Sanctuary. I figured I would check out the modding community, see what is needed and already done, and then make some mods my self.

Are there any mods worth having a look at, and if so, can someone help me? I would be grateful, and it would be great to put in the rest of the Knuckles Chaotix from the 32X game. I'm willing to team up, and have had experience with modeling with other engines.

P.S. Also, nice 3D hub and Classic Super Sonic.

I'm belgian too. My bank is AXA. Just create a Paypal account, link it to your bank account. Send money from it to your Paypal account and, two days later, ta-daaa! Money on Paypal :) That's the way I do it and it works fine :)
