Duke Nukem Forever

There's always the chance that the code and stuff could be given over to another developer by TakeTwo to finish off, you know.

That does look pretty cool.

Haha, so that one post earlier that said that DNF was still in development was a false alarm? What a damn shame. This game actually did look pretty promising after all this time.

That gameplay footage reminds me why I enjoy the Duke Nukem series so much. It's unlike any other series in it's in-your-face attitude.

I love the obvious inspiration from Resident Evil 4.

It sure would've been fun to fry a shirtless swine with some kind of flamethrower and watch him squealing in agony. Now that would make some real bacon! Enough to feed a whole family on a Sunday morning. ;)

*sigh*

So much for being a rambling fan with a run-away imagination.

Anyways, man, I really miss the flamethrower from the 2D Duke Nukem II!

First of all, it had an awesome digitized soundeffect.

Second of all, it could be used for more than just frying things. If you aimed down at the ground then it propelled you to greater heights allowing you to explore out-of-reach areas. (Just like those mushrooms and springpads that Sonic & Knuckles jump on.)

I was disappointed by the lack of the flamethrower in Duke 3D, and by the fact that I couldn't liberate the women from the slime pods. But I was very impressed by the moon base and the space stations.

Who knows? maybe DNF would've given me an equal share of both pleasant and upleasant surprises?

*shrugs*

As for Apogee games... Blake Stone: Aliens Of Gold and Rise Of The Triad: Dark War are still my favourites. I've got them preserved on DVD for life. Amen.

As it's that time of the year, with E3 coming up, we're getting all sorts of crazy rumour; the latest being 3D Realms being bought by Microsoft.

David Villarreal brought this up the other night before the Warzone and I nearly flipped out. It makes so much sense it’s not even funny. This is purely speculation and not a rumor or fact.

So it begins with Microsoft getting rights to distribut Duke Nukem on Xbox Live. Isn’t it kinda strange that they would put such a classic PC game on Xbox Live? They updated it, added Live support and now every gold user can have a blast from the past online.

On May 6th, 3D Realms closed their doors and their site went down. The site came back up a day later. The funny thing about the timing of the closing of 3D Realms is that it’s less than a month away from E3. What David told me completely blew my mind the other night. He thinks that Microsoft bought 3D Realms and that they are working on Duke Nukem Forever as an exclusive Xbox 360 title to be published by Take Two.

It just seems to make a whole lot of sense. Microsoft loves releasing classic versions of their games on Xbox Live before and sometimes even after an updated version is released. This could be one of Microsoft’s megaton’s at E3. Again, it’s just speculation but it would be really cool to see this happen. I’ve been waiting for Duke Nukem Forever since the game was announced.

Why would anyone want to buy a studio which took 12 years to fail to produce a game? Kind of shows they can't keep to a deadline. ;)

Exclusively for Xbox... So does this mean that there won't be any PC version? Have they gone completely bonkers?

PC is Duke's motherland. He's supposed to defend his motherland, not betray it.

This better not turn out to be a fact. Or else I'm really pizzed.

Why does every rumor nowadays go to things becoming exclusive to Microsoft? I don't believe it.

When exclusives are mentioned, they tend to be treated as only about the console world. PC releases are kinda unmentioned on the side and have just as large of a chance to appear as a multi-platform console game, especially in Microsoft's case.

Because Microsoft keep buying rights to games?

I know that, but it looks like its based on Microsoft Fans wants that these rumors are being made.

Rumours show demand. The more demand a port gets the more likely it'll happen. Look at FFXIII and Tekken 6, those wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the rumours.

To be fair, all rumours are based on wants. Where to false rumours come from? Fans. This goes for rumours of Star Ocean 4 going to PS3, rumours of Kingdom Hearts III going to Wii, etc etc.

See, this is what I'm getting at. Those rumors are false ones made out of wants alone which is why I can't believe it.

I think you'll find the grand majority of rumours are the same. Usually if truth comes out of the rumours it's because of a communication error between companies or its because the rumours are so popular.

Maybe if the fans plead enough, MS will indeed end up picking up DNF.

Butt-load of new screens, this looks like so much fun, this better get picked up by another company I swear. Tiny Duke in a giant Casino, desert monster-truck riding, so much good looking stuff. The screens make the game look quite finished, there's no reason why a division of Take-2 can't pick this up and finish it off.

The strip club one is absolute fucking lol. I wouldn't expect any less from a Duke game.

Chose not to read anything else. Guess I don't want to be spoiled on the offchance this game actually gets handed to someone else and finished.

I had to go to work in the 15 min after posting it = (

Also as finished as it looks to you guys, it still has a long way to go from what I've heard of an employee from over there, at least a good year. What you see is mostly alpha and some working beta.

I hope it gets picked up as long as they stick as close to the design docs and original team's vision as humanly possible.

The summary of Level#13 sounds awesome. I hope that the idea makes it through into the final version, if there will ever be a final version.

To be honest, I first heard about Duke getting a female assistant named Bombshell back in 1999 when the DukeWorld website was still alive and booming with updates.

Back then they were saying that Bombshell would be a tomboyish lesbian and that her relationship with Duke would be strictly professional.

But I'm guessing that her profile has drastically changed, after seeing the recent summary of Level#13 which has been revealed in here.

I sure would love to see her rendered on my laptop's monitor someday. :D

Anyways, if Microsoft really does acquire the rights and puts this on PC, I hope that they'll make it compatible with Windows XP rather than being mean pricks and forcing people to switch to Windows Vista.

Seriously.

I really must wonder what bizarre cosmic curse kept Duke Nukem Forever in development hell for like a decade. You'd think "Make a shooter with campy humor" would be pretty straight forward, but I guess things can get pretty nonsensical in the game industry at times.

IIRC one of the reasons they've been stating over the years is that they worked so much in every detail that after a while of production, their graphical engine was terribly outdated and needed replacing which then lead to development delays.

Can't be the only reason, but definitely one pretty logical.
