I just watched Panty & Stocking. It was absurd and non-sensical and just wrong for the eyes and ears...

But it was awesome.

Also, if the transformation scene was a one-time deal, then I can live with it.

But my gut instinct screamed to me that this was basically going to be the anime's stock footage. Guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.

that's like panning FLCL for the superflat scene. I read that bit on ANN and that guy is full of shit.

Anime communities have no taste, what else is new. I glance at ANN every once in a while for various reasons, but I cannot stand reading their reviews or even the message board.

Ugh, there are advertisements for Haruhi-chan and season 2. Like hell am I ever going to buy those pieces of SHIT.

I really doubt it. They didn't even "transform" in the second half

Okay!

So, anybody here seen the Professor Layton movie? I'm about to.

Late to the Panty and Stocking party despite watching it on Friday.

It's stupid.

Its innuendo is ridiculous.

And it's fucking awesome.

I can't imagine anyone but Gainax pulling it off and they sure as hell did.

So the Professor Layton movie was pretty good. Honestly when I first heard of its announcement, I was expecting it to be another crappy 30-minute anime tie-in billed as a double feature, but it's not the case here. The art and animation is as gorgeous as they were in the DS games. Level-5 is apparently coming out with more movies in the following winters.

I am surprised and appalled that anybody has yet to mention this in the thread. Have you guys not heard of it or something?

I'll be watching it once the DVD comes out in the UK in a couple of weeks.

Lucky. It's doubtful we Americans will be getting our hands on a release anytime soon. I'm looking forward to hearing an English dub, if anything else.

Yeah, at least the DVD release here will have dual audio. I'll obviously be checking out both.

Hell, we're getting massive deluxe box sets of it over here. 0_o

I finally got around to watching Panty and Stocking. It was so over the top, but yet it was done in a way that was just hilarious. I personally think it's biggest strength is it's animation style due to how it's more visually unique than the typical anime style. I really liked how it took more of a western animation style approach.

Just watched Star Driver.

I think this might just out-fabulous Geass.

Nothing really special so far but it's worth checking out since it does have potential. The mecha designs are pretty cool though.

Found something cool:

Both scenes must've been based off the same scene from something else, either that or it's an awesome coincidence. :D

Or both the movie and the episode were animated by the same people. It is pretty likely since Boondocks and Naruto had similar sequences as well.

That's almost "Disney in the 1970s" close.

isn't naruto studio pierrot and the bebop movie BONES?

I'd heard the "Same people" thing before but like unless pierrot shares staff with bones or something, I don't think that's true.

Boondocks is by a different studio again, IIRC

Aaron cited Cowboy Bebop as one of his main influences for The Boondocks' fight scenes.

Funnily enough; a good deal of Season 2 was animated by Madhouse.

Watching through the new animes this season to see if anything looks interesting and if I may say this season is full of perverted-non-perverted anime. o.o

Panty & Stocking was good, though it was really the animation, action, and music that won me over. On a story and humor basis it wasn't funny and it's story right now isn't too interesting. I feel you guys have talked about it enough though so I'll move onto the other two series I've seen so far.

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (fucking huge title, I swear) was the first anime to work off a fetish, it's about a rather normal family starring an older brother who wants to live a normal life and just blend in but finds out his younger sister (who has been treating him coldly over the years) is, in fact, a huge otaku (something both of their parents heavily disrespect) and more than that, she is really into porn games. To be specific, she is really into porn games involving little sister relationships. The episode actually wasn't as pervy as you might think and surprised me, with likable characters (or leads at this point) and managed to be excellently paced, acted, and the humor was good.

Next I watched MM! (wow, a lot shorter title) which is a series about a Masochist (person who derives sexual pleasure from pain, humiliation, and domination) who wants to cure his masochist-ness as he can't control it and only wants to be better (no one accepts it except his best friend). He goes to a place known as the Second Council which is made to help students problems annnddd of course the woman there happens to be a dominating type who's overly violent and thinks she's god. However she geniunely wants to help people and grant their wishes of pureness and yadda-yadda. This show I expected to be terrible BUT I will be honest, I was surprised. It was actually hilarious. It made me laugh multiple times, and though the story isn't going to win any rewards the characters are lively and likable (even if it's a bit creepy to watch the leads Masochist in action at first) and it left me in stitches. If the show doesn't become overly formulaic it could be something interesting. Anyone who wants to see something over-the-top in humor and doesn't mind a Masochist lead should likely watch it, though I warn you the show delves into lots of fetishes but it's not hentai or anything, in fact it went into some a bit shallow but somewhat deep messages about acceptance and being an outcast of society, letting fear control you and able to admit one's mistakes to better them and such.

Up next I am watching the Iron Man anime, Sora no Otoshimono Forte, and Bakuman.

show which i expected nothing from but really surprised me is Star Driver. Keep it together, BONES!

I need to check that out later.

OK, first of all Iron Man. I will say it was interesting the first half, but by the end of it it totally dissapointed me. First it was hard enough with me trying to get used to a Japanese speaking Iron Man. This anime is very evidently supposed to take place in the movie universe of Iron Man and tells the story of Tony Stark coming to Japan to make a energy source of the future which will make all energy free and with no pollution and harm, and he plans to retire as Iron Man soon building a new line of suits for special trainees to use. It started interesting and the style and up-frontness of Tony kept things interesting along with the clashes of Tony in Japanese culture. However it soon devolved into not feeling like Iron Man but some stereotypical Japanese Robot Anime and then the fight scene, it was cool BUT OH MY GOD WAS THAT SO FUCKING SHORT. I swear, he throws like two punches and POW HE'S DEAD. The fucking villain only said two lines of dialogue... TWO LINES OF DIALOGUE and he dies over NOTHING. He literally gets thrown into the air ONCE and then crashes down AND DIES. WTF. That was so anti-climatic... Hopefully they can pick up the slack or I can see myself dropping this. Also not a huge fan of the animation style i nthe actual show, I mean what happened to THIS?

^THAT looks a million times better, both in animation and style.

Anyways, I can't comment on Sora no Otoshimono Forte as I found out it was the second season of a series and I need to see the first ,but I will say the opening was hilarious but also extremely perverted.

BAKUMAN! <3 The begining of the episode made me go WTF as I thought I was watching the wrong series at first but once I figured out what it was, it's quite awesome indeed. Bakuman so far I feel has the potential to be the best anime this season from the 5 series opening episodes I've seen. HOWEVER, it won't appeal to everyone. It is a story about two guys, one a writer and top student and the other an artist and manga expert, who come together to try and make manga (the writer says to be number one, but as the artist says it's impossible to be number one, birth rates in Japan right now are low and there is no way they could beat Dragon Ball or One Piece). There's more to it than that, and the series story while simple in concept pulled it off wonderfully in making the series realistic, relatable, and even a bit emotional. This definitely had the best story out of all of the series I've seen so far and was the most human and not overexagerant one. It also apparently follows very closely to the manga, which people seem to only have good things to say about so it promises to be good AND HAS THE PLUS SIDE to be 25 episodes long as opposed to 13.

SO FAR, even though I may try a few others like Star Diver, I would rank them like this:

Best Story: Bakuman

Best Characters: Bakuman

Best Action: Panty & Stocking

Best Comedy: MM!

Best Drama: Bakuman

Best Music: Panty & stocking

Most Original: Panty & Stocking

Most Potential: Bakuman

See how this goes, and see if opinions change when I see more.

I personally found most of it disappointing so far but oh man that transformation and fight scene.

Also I read a bit on P&S future and apparently it's dropping the monster of the week soon. And the girls are trying to get back to heaven or they'll become human, which is interesting. I smell potential!

Think I may also check out My Little Sister Can't be This Cute. Aside from hearing good things, the otaku pandering is hilarious, should make an entettaining watch.

So what the hell is with this Kekaishi shit or whatever that keeps taking up space on the Adult Swim block? Jesus, it is like a back to back shit-a-thon with this and Bleach. I hope Adult Swim picks up Panty & Stocking. That would be the shit.
