I'm getting more and more concerned about Digimon Tri even airing now and possibly being delayed. Air date is only a week away and we still don't have a trailer! D:

I watched the first episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan and I have to say as a long time Haruhi fan, I rather enjoyed it.  It felt like all the previous versions of Haruhi (including the spin-offs) all rolled up into one.

I really loved how Kyon still does his little inner monologue thing.  That was always one of my favorite parts of Haruhi.  Ryoko and Tsuruya were awesome as always and Mikuru was, well... Mikuru. :D  I also liked how Nagato was your stereotypical anime shy-girl, but at the same time wasn't totally spineless in letting others know what she wanted.  It should be interesting once Haruhi actually makes her presence known.

It was like the show never left all the while being different but the same.  Very good start for this series and I really hope Funimation goes the extra mile in getting the original dub cast from Bang Zoom to reprise their roles when they do the eventual English dub.  Especially with Kyon doing his inner monolgues... I need my Crispin Freeman fix.

Urgh. I made the mistake of watching Food Wars today. Yeahh I'm never gonna watch another episode of that. Why? It's literally food porn. Not like food porn as in "oh wow that food looks good" although, that is in there too. But no. I mean there's naked people in here. The sequences when people eat food is just disturbing. Their clothes get ripped off and they pretty much get an orgasm by the food. I mean... what the hell. It didn't help that there was a freaking tentacle rape scene in the first 3 minutes either!

When I first heard about Food Wars, it was on Twitter. And people were saying by how amazing it was and how good the food looks and what epic culinary battles it had. There was none of that here. No. Just a shitload of fanservice and food. Almost hentai territory, I swear. I just... I really didn't expect it to be like this. Wow.

Well, on the bright side the other two shows I've picked up this season are rather good. Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic! is great lighthearted fun and Is It Wrong to Try and Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is alright. Not sure if I'll be following the latter much though. It's not bad. I mean, it has an alright plot so far and there isn't much fanservice as of yet so that's good..

I'm still waiting for The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan to get good subs. From what I hear the ones currently available aren't all that great. Still waiting on Sound! Euphonium to air, which I believe will be the best this season. Only time can tell though.

I do also have plans to check out Show by Rock!!, Re-Kan!, Ultimate Otaku Teacher, and The Heroic Legend of Arslan by the end of the week. I have a feeling I'll be dropping a good amount of them though. :L

Speaking of manga, did anyone hear about the localization of the Yo-Kai Watch manga VizMedia is doing?

I know this is based off a game, right? I watched the first episode of the anime and it's actually pretty good. I got a massive amount of Pokemon vibes from it. From the little things like the "remember to watch anime in a well lit room" message at the beginning of an episode, to the character designs and even that Y-Kai database thing they have at the end of an episode that's like the Pokemon of the day thing. Whisper even impersonated Professor Oak. Or.. maybe it wasn't intentional. :V

Still, I've been hearing a lot about Yo-Kai watch lately and it seems like they really wanna get it out there, especially in America.

hooray spring season. got a fresh Funimation subscription too, so I'm ready! first impressions part one

Disappearance of Yuki Nagato: Same cute gushy romance stuff I remembered from reading the manga. I dig it. Hoping the inevitable dub is able to get the original voice cast..

Denpa Kyoushi: Slightly disappointed with episode 1, mostly due to the subpar art style/animation. Kind of a shame since I loved the source material. Story still seems to be intact, which is a big plus.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (season two): So happy to see these guys again. New art style looks nice. Can't wait to see what goes down this season.

Sound Euphonium: K-On: Wind Ensemble edition. Real talk though, having been a member of the concert band in high school, this show gives me tons of nostalgia. Also I love the fact that the main character plays the euphonium, my secondary instrument back in the day.

Woo! I got to watch Sound! Euphonium today and I loveeedddd it! So far, it's my favourite anime to air this season, just as I expected. ^^

The plot is rather simplistic and kinda reminds me of Your Lie in April a bit. There's this girl who used to play in a band but then after not making it to the gold rank or whatever if it was called, stopped playing. Now she's in high school and after much debate, she decides to give music another go and joins her newly made friends in a band.

Now, one of the first things that impressed me was the animation. Everything looks so gorgeous. The production qualities remind me of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's like a movie. And the art style to me looks like they meshed Haruhi Suzumiya with K-ON! in the best way possible. I hope they keep it consistent though, since I know animation studios tend to make the first episode the best looking one. But wow, if they keep it up I think this will be the best looking anime I've ever seen. Check out these screencaps. The characters are so detailed and beautiful.

Now, being a music anime, the music is as expected, really good. I really liked the band performances we got to hear. Even the one that supposedly sucked according to the main character, Kumiko Oumae, sounded pretty good. My favourite was probably the Can Can performance at the end of the episode. They called it something else in the episode but I know it as the Can Can song so.. yeah. As for opening theme, it's the most forgettable to me but the ending theme was rather nice.

So yeah, just like how I recommended Your Lie in April last fall, I'm gonna recommend Sound! Euphonium for the spring season. I guess there's something about music anime that really draws me in. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that the past 2 shows I've loved are music related. Anyway, check this out please!

Well, thats sad... :(

The editors of Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine announced on Wednesday that manga creator Cocoa Fujiwara passed away on March 31. She was 31. A service was held for her family and close relatives.

Fujiwara made her debut with the short story "Calling" in 1999. She later serialized the manga Inu × Boku SS in Gangan Joker from 2009 to 2014. Yen Press publishes the romantic comedy in North America, and the manga inspired the 2012 Inu X Boku Secret Service television anime which Sentai Filmworks released in North America.

Fujiwara began her Katsute Mahō Shōjo to Aku wa Tekitai Shiteita. manga in Gangan Joker in 2013, and the chapter that the magazine published in the April issue on March 20 is the final one. The magazine and its website will report on the compilation of the final chapters, which have yet to be published in book form, and other details as soon as a decision is made. Fujiwara's other manga included Watashi no Ookami-san and dear.

But on more brighter news:

Isao Takahata, the Oscar-nominated anime director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, received the Officier decoration in France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) on Tuesday. French Ambassador Thierry Dana presented the honor in a ceremony at his official residence in Tokyo and praised Takahata as "legendary in the world of anime." The Officier rank is above the Chevalier, and below the Commandeur.

Takahata commented that he was truly happy for this honor since France is a special country to him. He added that he has visited France several times for film festivals and has spoken there about Japanese picture scrolls.

Takahata had a long career directing such classics as Little Norse Prince Valiant (Taiyō no Ōji - Hols no Daibōken), Alps no Shōjo Heidi, and Anne of Green Gables before he co-founded Studio Ghibli with Hayao Miyazaki. He went on to create the feature films Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, and My Neighbors the Yamadas.

Continuing my experiments with the spring 2015 anime season, today I watched Show by Rock!! And yeah I'm gonna say it now. Another winner!

L23e14i.png

Basically what happens in this show is, this girl that loves playing music gets warped into a game world where people fight using the power of music. I like to think of it as a magical girl anime of sorts, as when the battle sequences take place, the animation style and character designs change. I think it's really cute and fun to watch. And the music is great too. I especially liked how in the OP, they made an effort to sync up the lips to match the lyrics which made it look more smooth and nice. You know, it wasn't the usual "yappa yappa" mouth.

Needless to say, I'm interested where this will go. I've never really seen an anime quite like this before. Maybe the closest thing was the movie, Summer Wars but this is much more different. The only thing they have in common is the game world. So yeah. Really though, why is it that as of late musical anime is the best? Not that I'm complaining. I love music anime.

I wish I had more to say about this but.. yeah not much happened in the episode besides what I already mentioned. But it does show a promising start, so that's good.

Just saw that Shokugeki no Soma's 1st episode and all I can say is... it looks to be in good taste, but the fanservice symbolism humor was bitter and sour. At least the look of the food was sweet and the language was not salty. I might watch the official streams to ketch up on it, if I have the time for it.

One thing I found interesting about the show: you can tell by the reactions of both the people watching the show and the characters in the show themselves if they may or may not have been band kids. I was with Kumiko on that first performance. Lots of phasing of the tempo, players clearly not weatching the conductor, notes were out of tune, etc. Having been a band kid for about 7-8 years, it's one of those things that you just can't help but nitpick after it's been drilled into your head so damn much haha XD

Looking at your PSN name, are you a Gosick fan?

Nah, I've been asked that before though. It was something I picked during my middle school weeb phase because I wanted to know what gray wolf translated to in Japanese haha.

Last night I watched the first episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. And, as a fan of the original series this spin-off is based on, I was a tad iffy about watching it. In fact, I had to force myself to watch it. But! I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought. The first thing that stuck out were the character designs. I was put off by them at first but as the episode went on, I found myself liking them more than the original ones. Seriously, I went back to watch an episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and was like "Woah... those eyes are humongous. Kinda.. gross even." I even liked how they had "chibi" moments in the show. It really made it a lot more fun to watch!

The plot so far is rather.. non-existent. I mean, it's playing out as a normal slice of life show. Though since this is still a Haruhi Suzumiya series, I hope there will be some sort of action or mystery going on. Heck, Haruhi is in the show. She just made a one second appearance but I can assume she'll become a part of the crew sooner or later.

6d6jZBt.png

Character interactions were also really well done and every character was still like their normal counterparts aside from Yuki (obviously because this is a "what if.." about her). And really, the writing style actually surprised me because it felt like something Nagaru Tanigawa wrote. And if I'm not mistaken, this spin-off was originally written by someone completely different (part of the reason I didn't want to read it in the first place). Kyon is still the best character in my eyes. All his reactions and thoughts are exactly what you'd expect of Kyon. He's just the average Joe that doesn't want to cause trouble or get into nasty shenanigans. And the new art style really emphasizes on that with his reactions.

JrdU3dg.png(Yes, he's the white log in the background)

With that said, this is yet another anime I will be following this season. I expect some great stuff to be delivered by this show and I hope it doesn't disappoint. If anyone is a fan of the original Haruhi Suzumiya series and is on the fence, I'd say give the first episode a go. As I had previously mentioned, I was iffy about it when I saw the promotional art and heard the concept but I'm now rather enjoying it. So yeah, don't knock it 'till you've tried it.

Wahh I'm tempted to watch it but I'm just really really bitter we never got a true follow-up season to the brilliance that was season 1 and also just KyoAni's overall shittiness and the multi-layered drama that surrounds the Haruhi franchise to this day. If the Disappearance movie didn't serve as the utmost perfect conclusion to the anime I would have gone fucking bonkers

I really don't like the idea of injecting a(n even more) moe personality into Yuki as well as the obvious anime facefaults and reactions, but I'll probably cave because I'm utterly desperate for some kind of Haruhi fix at this point. Your post has made me a little more interested and less reluctant to give this version a go, but maybe I'll wait until a few more episodes have aired before I jump into it

Apparently Grisaia no Meikyuu is getting a 1 hour special in 9 days.

Not sure if I should watch it or wait for Sekai project to finish the localization

Is Hulu.com not working for anyone else? I've been trying to watch the new Sailor Moon R dub while I can, but all I get is a blank white page. This has been happening since last night.

They're doing the next Anime right after so you may as well.

So I watched "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon" against my better judgement; to be honest, for a Light Novel adaptation, I was expecting worse. It still has that shitty ass fanservice(why do you put breasts on the body of little girls Japan, why!?) but overall its pretty harmless.

And now, for Seraph of the End.
