...I mentioned the PYIB remix before anyone else...tongue.png

But Indigo provided a link :P

It's a stellar track and really does sound like something I'd be happy to hear in a Megadrive title. S4 isn't a 16bit game however, so I wouldn't want it in there. It just proves what Cash Cash are capable of though.

This is not better than his music. It's better than the arrangement the developers chose. The music itself is pretty awesome, memorable and classic-like.

As a piece of music, yes it is arguably better than what Jun dished out for S4E1 (subject to opinion of course). When it comes to deciding whether one piece of music is better than another, you have to look at each individual track as it's own piece. So you can't use arguments like 'it's just a poor arrangement' because that mean that a remix would always be of equal quality to the original.

For example, the version of Splash Hill 1 we hear in game is terrible. That is Jun's music for S4E1. This

however is awesome. That is not Jun's music for S4E1. Edited by HYDROCITEE

Half was good, and half was bad. Mad Gear Zone was all great, not good or decent. Could easily fit into a classic Sonic game, just needed better instrumentation. Lost Labyrinth was also good. Casino Street was meh and Splash Hill was decent. The worst tracks though, were the Boss, Boss Pinch and the Final Boss track.

E1's soundtrack definately needed better instrumentation and a couple more artists helping out.

I loved the boss music. The Final Boss track was fine, too.

I think Lost Labyrinth is better than Party in the Bedroom.

Listening to this mix of PIYB, I can't help but wonder if that song as it is would have fit as the credits for Sonic 4.

Really though, think about it.

Sonic 2 had a Genesis mix of Sweet Dream by DCT, and Sonic 3's Staff Roll was based off of Michael Jackson's Stranger in Moscow.

Why not continue that tradition?:o

I'd love Cash Cash to do music for Episode 2, or at least for a game in the future. For me they successfully modernised (in terms of technology) the Classic style for Generations, just as Ohtani and the others did. I don't like the idea of placing restrictions on the type of sound just to make it sound more retro. Ugh. Sonic 4 should be Sonic 3&K (if not better) as if it were made today.

That would be a sick idea! Although, I'd have to point out that it's the other way around with Sonic 3 Credits-Stranger In Moscow; MJ based Stranger In Moscow is actually based off of Sonic 3 Credits! It goes to show how well video game tracks can certainly influence alot of thing, including the MD/Genesis mix of PIYB!

I found the music in the Casino Street acts bland and unmemorable. The rest of E1's tracks I have no problem with, but I hope for improvement in E2.

Currently listening to the Big Arm remix from Generations 3DS. I really really hope that Cash Cash is involved with Sonic 4 Episode II, because that remix is absolutely brilliant. I bet they could do some awesome original stuff for E2.

I would personally prefer if the music in the game was just done like a modern game without technical limitations. I mean, if the game is going to have modern graphics I don't see why the music shouldn't be.

Though I wouldn't mind if they limited themselves to genesis sounding music if Cash Cash does it. Seriously, those PIYB and Big Arm remixes are just fantastic. I really hope Cash Cash becomes a recurring band like Crush40.

Remember, half of that Big Arm remix is also Jun Senoue doing something he's really good at, and that's rocking out loud.

Their powers combined...

I'm really sick of the "retro" thing in terms of music, I'm not shocked at all but I'm disappointed we're getting it again. Cash Cash I let slide because it's not deliberately limiting itself (though as PIYB shows, they are more than capable of doing that thing really well). I don't see why Sonic 4 Episode 2 should limit itself now the graphics are actually really good in my opinion. I mean Generations only had Mega Drive music for the Classic 3 levels to be true to the originals, and even then, the Death Egg Robot, in a stunning move that shocked me for sure, used an orchestral remix (I was honestly expecting a Mega Drive original like remix of this too). I mean Episode 1's tunes were fine aside from sometimes being repetitive, but the soundfont/instrumentation they used meant it was bleh and sounded kind of bland.

That music Swiss posted is really good though.

I think this guys stuff sounds pretty damn good and fits Sonic 4's musical style well.

http://youtu.be/uNDG_rNxjkE

edit: and here's the updated and final version of the Final Boss theme. http://youtu.be/Wk-45oPjrX8

This guy's stuff isn't half bad at all. I liked a lot of it. At least, it is so much better than anything in Episode 1.

Also reminds me how terrible the boss battle music was. Dear god that tune should have stayed scrapped.

If it were up to me, the music would sound like some of this guy's works:

Sadly, seems like we're getting that cat-synth again. It's pretty disappointing that they were willing to build a new graphics engine

Not sure if that many people knew this (I only found out while watching a Let's Play) but the boss theme from Sonic 4 is actually a remix of an unused boss theme from Sonic 3D Blast

I wonder whether they'll drag another old theme out of the woodwork for Ep 2 or just compose an entirely new piece (or, y'know... re-use Ep 1's theme)

Aye, I believe this is fairly common knowledge from when the soundtrack for E1 first leaked. Jun composed it for S3D, but it ultimately got canned. Why he recycled it to be used as the regular boss theme I'll never understand. It doesn't work at all. He probably won't recycle another, since there's nothing else unused from the classics that Jun created.

Yeah it was known as an old tune that was scrapped. And scrapped for good reason. I mean, its awful. Why did he decide to bring it back I don't know.

The music really does sound better!

...Compared to Ep.1, compared to everything else it still sounds bad.
