Should Sonic's next game include more playable characters?

Also adding to Scar's point about making the characters able to move well, there's also the aspect of different characters having different level designs and mechanics added to the game in order for their play style to work. For example, like Knuckles looking for chaos shards in Sonic Adventure or Big's fishing, those were different parts of the game with different goals that had to be put into the game, basically meaning more work and longer time to get it all done. They also had different level design, which takes a while to complete to, it just means having to do more than twice the work, depending on the number of characters and the length of their stories and such.

As opposed to the 2D games, where characters were optional and able to run through the same exact levels, just using different abilities, basically the Sonic Advance series and even Sonic 3 & Knuckles. All they would really have to do here is do the animations, attacks, and the rest for the characters themselves rather than for the characters AND their own stages.

It really all depends on what SEGA wants to do with the story of the game, like I said, I'm just adding more to the point that adding in various characters to the game is pretty difficult to do and get right.
