Disney's Wreck-It Ralph

I just found out that the movie is showing Thursday at the Philadelphia Film Fest, $12 a ticket.

Problem is, I also want to see Rifftrax Birdemic that same night, but if that falls though then I'm doing a SEGAbits podcast. Thursday is a busy night!

Barry, I too am going to see Rifftrax: Birdemic. I missed my chance to get an advanced ticket in my area, so I'm stuck seeing the Rifftrax thing (it's awesome, but considering that I could see Wreck it Ralph early, it's disappointing). Hopefully, there's a midnight release in MN. (Dammit AMC, why don't you list it? D: )

Adult Swim is promoting the film through Toonami. They've been airing an AD promoting Toonami and at the end TOM endorses the film. He even says that this Saturday, he is going to review Fix-it Felix Jr.

Skip to 0:16 for the part about Wreck-it Ralph.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of odd to be promoting a family film on Adult Swim but with TOM's game reviews, I guess it makes some sense. Kinda. Not going to complain. The more promotion for the film, the better.

They put him in as a reference to Disney's past films. Disney likes doing that a lot. For instance, you can see Ms. Potts from Beauty in the Beast briefly in Tarzan, and on top of that you can briefly see the genies lamp from Aladdin during the "Dig a little deeper" song in Princess and the frog.

Cool! Of course, SegaSonic Arcade would have been even better (especially if we got to see Mighty/Ray cameo).

And Hogfather, you'd probably be interested to know that there definitely is some merch coming out for WIR. I found action figures of Felix and Ralph at Target. They're accurate and to scale with each other (so Ralph is about 10" tall!) Do some googling and you'll find the toys.

Freddie's Wreckin' (Sorry) Review of Wreck-It Ralph

Un-Spoiler Review

So, basically the movie is what you thought, bad guy wants to become a good guy, jumps from game to game. Here's my review without spoilers though, so these are just my thoughts on the film...it's awesome, incredible. I'm not saying it because it has several cameo appearences from videogames, but it's just awesome, I was interested the entire movie, and it didn't even disappoint hardly at all. It had it's heartfelt moments, and it's happy moments. It was just awesome, I can't really say much more, it's one of the best 3D Disney films of all-time, and probably one of their best films period. The animation was great, and the voice-actors did a great job as the characters. The best videogame (can I call it that?) film of all-time.

Spoiler Alert

Alright, so the story starts out with Wreck-It Ralph feeling lonely and such, as he decides to go to Fix-It Felix Jrs. 30th Anniversary, he goes to the building and everyone is pretty much a jerk to him, except for Felix, he's more scared of Ralph. He gets mad at Mr. whatever his name is and says he'll win a medal, because basically the idea of Fix-It Felix Jr. is to win the medal, so he travels to Heros' Duty after he steals the suit of one of the soldiers in the bar "Tapper" (or whatever), he goes to Heros' Duty, travels to the tower, and gets the medal, while also accidentally releasing one of those parasites, him and the parasite are rocketed to Sugar Rush after he accidentally stumbles into a escape pod. The parasite escapes Ralph, and then his medal is stuck in the tree, so he climbs the tree and meets Vanelope (Or however you spell it), she steals his medal and uses it to get into the race of Sugar Rush, so she can be a playable character, King Candy does not want her to race though. Ralph comes storming in all angry, in green sticky candy, and "wrecks" the place basically. He gets arrested by the donut police and is taken to the Candy Castle, he is then told to get out of the game by King Candy, or else he'll be sent to his Fungeon. (Yes, Fungeon.) Ralph just wants his medal back, but King Candy can't give it to him because it's a code right now, and he can only get it back after the race is won by Vanelope. Ralph then befriends Vanelope and helps her build her kart in a Karting Factory, they escape the Donut Police, because Vanelope is a glitch and she is wanted, into a secret unused stage, and she learns how to drive there. Meanwhile, Felix and the Heros' Duty lady join forces to find Ralph and stop the Parasite in Sugar Rush from multiplying, then they fall in love and other shit and get married at the end of the film. The Candy King comes along and tells Ralph that if Vanelope passes the finish line, the game will glitch and she will not be able to escape, because of her being a glitch, so Ralph tells her and wrecks her vehicle, and she is taken captive by King Candy while Ralph goes back to Fix-It Felix Jr., which is now empty except for Mr. whatever his name is, because everyone left because the game would be unplugged the next day. Ralph then goes back to Sugar Rush, realizing that he has been tricked by King Candy, because when he goes ontop of the Fix-It Felix Jr. building, he notices Vanelope is on the arcade machine and he says "If she's a glitch, why is she on the arcade cabinet?" He goes back to Sugar Rush, uses Felix who has also been taken captive, to fix the Kart and to use her to win the race. King Candy was also a game-jumper, forgot to mention this, his name was Turbo. (Which in the movie, game-jumper is titled "Turbo".) and he was upset his game was old, due to the fact of a new racer, so he game-jumped and went into the other racer, wrecking it, and getting both machines shut off, he managed to escape and go to Sugar Rush. Vaneloppe and Ralph go to the race, and then the Parasites start to rip out of the earth, so Ralph goes to the unused track, which is a Diet Soda volcano with mentos on top (Hahahahahaha.) The Candy King was taken over by one of the parasites and is now King Parasite or something, and tries to stop Ralph from setting off the mentos volcano to save Sugar Rush. Ralph then manages to get free of the Candy King and sends all the mentos flying into the diet soda, he is then saved by Vaneloppe and they race back to the finish line, as the parasites mistake the explosion for the light, which attracts them in Heros Duty, and they are instantly destroyed. The Candy King can't resist it either, due to him being a parasite now as well, and is destroyed. Vanloppe crosses the finish line and she is no longer a glitch, due to the game resetting, and King Candy can no longer mess around with the wiring now that he's dead. Ralph and Felix return to their game right before it is unplugged, and the arcade is saved. They also create a bonus round that includes Q-Bert. Q-Bert and Fix-It Felix repair the damage Ralph and the Q-Bert enemies have caused, which is pretty awesome, and the movie pretty much ends there, with Ralph being happy and welcomed by the citizens of Fix-It Felix Jr., and basically a loved villain. The End.

Sonic the Hedgehog Cameos

I'll put this in a spoiler just incase people want to see them on their own, this is also not in the order they appear in, just the ones I remember.

1. Game Central Station First Cameo - Sonic appears on the screen and talks about how dangerous it is to game jump.

2. Fix-It Felix Jr. - Sonic appears in the building celebrating the Fix-It Felix Jr. 30th Anniversary.

3.Tapper - Sonic, Tails, and Dr. Eggman all appear as pictures in the background of the bar.

4.Game Central Station Second Cameo - While Fix-It Felix and the Heros Duty girl are talking, Sonic appears in the background and starts talking to...I can't remember, but I think it's Q-Bert.

5. Game Central Station Third Cameo - Sonic is hit by the rocket Ralph flies out of Heros' Duty and loses rings.

6. Game Central Station Fourth Cameo - Dr. Eggman is seen walking with the purple rhino from Altered Beast.

7. After-Credits Scene - Ralph and Fix-It Felix, I believe, are in 16-bit, running next to Sonic in Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2, which Sonic then hits 16-Bit Dr. Eggman and rings flies out, it then shows the names of the writers or producers I think, which was a pretty damn cool touch, and they did this with Q-Bert and Street Fighter as well.

8. Therapy Meeting - Dr. Eggman is in the room along with other villains, he is also seen on the train or whatever leaving the therapy meeting.

9. The Arcade - Sonic the Fighters is seen

Any questions you want to ask me about the story, other character cameos, etc.? Also, Mario didn't have a cameo, but he was mentioned at the 30th Anniversary Party of Fix-It Felix Jr., where Fix-It Felix said "Probably Mario, he's always fashionably late." after he heard Ralph ring the doorbell or something. Great to know the movie's good. I'm very hyped up for this film, not just for the cameos but for the story and characters as well! Heck, I'd be just as excited if all the cameos were just expies instead. It's a movie about video games, and one that looks like a lot of fun at that!

No. They had that one scene we saw in the trailer, which had two or three jokes, and at the very end before Ralph leaves Sugar Rush, I believe Ralph jokes about it, but it's not filled to the brim with it or anything.

Okay, so on the official Wreck-it-Ralph website (which is very well-done, I encourage you to check it out), there are unlockable profiles of the characters, including those of prominent cameos like Sonic and Eggman. You unlock the profiles with "points" you earn by clicking on things in the site. Sonic's profile is the hardest to get, requiring you to click on nearly everything in the site to view it, which is a real pain because the website tends to crash before you can accumulate enough points. So, for those who don't have the time to unlock them, here are screenshots of Sonic and Eggman's profiles. I think they did a great job on them!

We'll start with Eggman, who only has 20% cruelty. Sonic X really did a number on his bad-guy reputation.

Now it's Sonic's turn! The more I look at his artwork, the more I like it, even though the pose is relatively stale. I think it's because someone finally figured out how to render his mouth without it looking weird. Disney did a great job on the eyes, too. I wonder if they modeled him from scratch or used a model Sega gave them?
