It looks like the "?" was added in the last minute. Definitely can tell because of a different font is used for the question mark. Very suspicious.

Holy shit. If this is an April Fool, I love Alvin so much he can get all my money I don't have yet.

What if he was doing this to move things a bit so that people can be interested again and he can release the next episode ? Announcing it a week from April 1st, the "The End?" with the question mark only appearing after a few seconds... This will be very dramatic either way.

I would want to remind you guys this isn't the first time he pulled an April Fools joke if this turns out to be.

This is last year's April Fools joke that he did.

And before that, it was a Mario Head Rickroll.

And didn't he once mentioned that he aimed for an April 2012 release? Forgot where it said that, but I remember it was mentioned...

Why are people clinging onto a single thread of assumption that this is an April Fools? "Early April Fools" is an incredibly desperate form of self-denial and if he wanted this to be an actual joke, he could have damn well waited another week to pull that joke, making it one fucking week enough for it to not be a joke.

SMBZ is dead for now, and has been for the longest time. It stands to reason that nothing says Alvin won't ever return to it in the future which is probably why he added a question mark to it, assuming he still even holds some investment in the series, but enough evidence and events prove that there's no doubt that he wants to stop caring about it and doesn't feel like working with it.

....way to be a kill joy, can you let people have some hope?

I was just making an assumption.

I'd like to think of it as being realistic in regards to the elephant in the room.

Early April Fools has always been a naive presumption easily applied to every "bad" subject that arises when closing in on the end of March, and I can think of very few cases where it has been vindicated, if any at all exists.

I never said to not hold hope, Alvin even said himself that "who knows, I'm unpredictable with things but right now I just need to get this off my chest". What I am saying is, don't hold your breath.

I know that, I just thought it was weird that he would do this now, of all times.

I'd say it's kinda dumb he announces it now, if anything. He could have waited some time after April Fools' Day, to avoid making people being illusive and thinking it's an early or late April Fool. But oh well. I'll just forget about the series now.

This series is pretty much on the backlist of priorities for me, so if he continues...then yay.

I'm just hating myself that I never considered Luigi to save Mario using the Tanooki powers he currently had. That was right under my nose and I still missed it.

I was banking on Wario & Waluigi, that Eggman-silhouette, or yes, even Shadow to save Mario.

I just find it odd is all as to why he would a "?" at the end of it. and "a week before april fools" jokes are not uncommon people usually do it so the joke can more emotional meaning. And he has been known for doing previous AFD jokes for the series.

All I'm saying is that maybe I Should take what I hear all this week with a grain of salt like I have been saying on the status.

Its even funnier when last year, he did an April Fool's prank with Luigi saving Mario.

It's a real hilarious in hindsight moment, for sure.

As for the "?" thing, I'll just make the note that in the aforementioned April Fools joke, Alvin cut straight into Luigi breaking out of stone, but in this short excerpt, he takes the time to include the intro screen, the title, and the Shadow and Mecha Sonic scene that itself ends on a cliffhanger-y note, and then cuts to the Basilsx scene where Luigi busts out, instead of opting for the reveal immediately.

Could mean absolutely nothing, but hey.

  • 5 weeks later...

I can see where he's coming from.

"indefinite hiatus?"

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't having second thoughts.

Why, hello, what's this?

SMBZ isn't entirely abandoned in the mist?

The Eartworm still has some interest in the series yet!

So SMBZ isn't entirely over, you could bet!

Wouldn't hurt to let someone else stress on the animation side of things while he did all storyline and script. I said this before, You can't start a series like this and expect to shoulder all the weight of it, it requires a team effort! Just wish he'd trust someone to help him...

He just needs to cool off, Draw furry art/porn for a awhile, and maybe just maybe we may hear something about this series again. We can see he still does care about it, hes just burned out entirely and needs to let go for awhile.

I'd rather he did the animating and someone else did the story to be honest. No offence to Alvin, but the writing was piss-poor for the most part. Relied way too heavily on internet jokes and was littered with cliché. Not a bad thing if it didn't take itself seriously, but it does. Kinda detracted from the action in my opinion.

I thought for the most part it was a nice, simple excuse story to get some sprites to do cool stuff.

But whenever Mecha Sonic got involved, man did it get way too serious, and the whole "murdered all the Sonic characters" stuff was just dumb.

So pretty much, when everyone was just running around fighting random Mario RPG characters, it was alright, but when the actual story happened, it was dumb, dumb, dumb.

Yeah, the fights were really the only thing that was worth anything; the story was meandering tripe with ill-fitting drama invading it arbitrarily. Pair him with a half decent writer who can leave a few "*insert fight here*" notes in the script and you might have something pretty good...as far as sprite-based fighting-centric flash animations go, anyway.

He just needs to ... Draw furry art/porn for a awhile,
Okay no that's something no one needs to do, ever.

Eh, I wasn't terribly interested in the story to be honest, but looking back..yeah his writing is kind of bad; I'll admit he makes a valiant effort to stay true to canon, but most of the time is just....eh.

-Was killing the entire Sonic cast necessary? Especially if it was just an excuse to only use Sonic & Shadow?

- Most of the jokes were just...unfunny, and not in the "So bad, its good" way either.

- I don't care what excuse he had, or the amount of similarities they share, Shadow is not Vegeta and I didn't appreciate him being turned into his furry clone.

Other than that, yeah, the action is amazing, writing is mediocre at best. It was a fun series, and let's be honest, the story is only there to give some context to the action, even Alvin himself said this started off as a parody.

Still, if he truly wanted to continue he should have just assembled a team, but alas.
