Spongebob SquarePants 2

Plus, your theory of perception only works if I hadn't seen the older episodes in years. I've seen the entirety of the first through third seasons multiple times in my late adolescents and I only started watching the newer episodes in that same time and I still think they're awful. The only way your theory holds any ground is if I was an eternal brat or you.

Well, you did say you watch the show as an adult... so... I guess you're an eternal brat? biggrin.png

But no, it's not a theory. Repetition breeding apathy is a thing that exists. But it's cool, it's just Spongebob. I happen to find it very much the same throughout, but obviously my perspective is my own.

I stopped watching the series at around 2005, right after the movie came out in late 2004. I'm not just saying this, but I noticed even back then that the episodes seemed more... "dumb". Or at least that's how I would have described it like back then.

Guys remember this joke? In case you don't get it, Spongebob is watching porn. Yeah I can't see the Season 4-present writers doing something like this.

I always wondered what the Hell that meant, and now I know.

Har, har.

It's a theory since you have yet to prove one thing: Spongebob has remained the same. And since the writing staff changed, you can't seriously prove that. As thus, it's just a baseless theory in regards to this show.

However, I can show you an example of repetition breeding apathy, the Emperor's New School, it's a show that stole every joke straight from the movie it's based on, and every plot is just about the same; rinse and repeat every week. There is no real variety, and the show lost me after the 12th episode. And the only reason I stuck for so long is because I was bored. So your theory isn't wrong, just wrongly used here.

To be fair if I can't prove it's the same, then by the same token you can't prove otherwise. I mean, you can post examples of gags which I could probably counter with similar examples from earlier episodes, but the only way to be sure would be if I re-watched the whole series. But I won't be doing that for the sake of a small-scale forum argument, so I'm prepared to concede defeat in this Spongebob Squarepants writing team debate, if you like.

I could prove it. Since spongebob isn't so much about the plots as it is the gags, all we'd have to do is compare gags from earlier seasons to newer ones. However, since Viacom are a bunch of watchdogs I can only post one gag which I'm sure was never used from Seasons 1-3

*Viewer Discretion*

Find me a gag that disgusting while being especially explicit and not a cutaway and I'll concede as well since I don't have enough info to prove myself.

I genuinely don't see much of a distinction between the content there (which is cringeworthy, for sure) and the lion's share of the grosser gags in the earlier eps. Not to mention that a single gag doesn't really constitute much.

If I could find my DVDs maybe I'd do this, but like I said I'm prepared to concede because I don't really have the patience to do this anymore - busy.

Man I still can't believe that's the same show that gave us Band Geeks (which is totally one of the best episodes imo)

That's my favourite episode. biggrin.png

  • 2 months later...

Yeah. Hopefully nick will finally let sponge bob rest after this movie.

Or until they have a show that will be popular enough to replace Spongebob.

What is this "Nick" that everyone keeps talking about?

Oh, do you mean the Spongebob & iCarly Network?

They also have TMNT, which has been pretty good so far. But yeah, the fact that they still air reruns of Spongebob and any pre-teen crap is annoying.

Well at least we got another season of Legend of Korra coming right?

This was posted by Paul Tibbitt on his Twitter last month, it's a "title concept" design for the second movie logo. Image is JPEG, so I can't post it here. But there is a link below.

They did have this, although it's (even?) less subtle in comparison:

Off-topic to get it off my chest:

Don't even remind me... I had this friend who was a massive fanboy of iCarly and similar shows in Nick. But not fanboy by loving it a lot, fanboy in the sense he would be rude and violent with anybody who disliked the show... and said video games were a waste of time.

So I'm not really a fan of this new movie. While I throughly enjoyed the later season, I truly think it's time to end it. But not with a killer finale; with a subtle cancellation. Think about it. A finale would leave our hearts sad and the show sore. But many cartoons which simply ended are still cult classics. I feel bad mostly for my dad, who would cry if there was such an ending to the show... and that's really bad.
