Strangest thing(s) you found in a Sonic game?

How about the fact that the searchlights in White Acropolis still work in End Of The World? It's rather odd that they would be working still, but the calming soft music, the slowly darkening area, and the searchlight noise all come together to form a really nice dissonance.

Solaris is very detail-oriented, perhaps?

One thing I could never understand in Shadow's story was why, in the beginning cutscene of his arc when he's rushing towards the base in White Acropolis, do none of the robots shoot at him. They are literally firing in every other direction except the ground where he's approaching. It not only breaks continuity badly considering they were actually aiming for him in the last shot, but it makes for one of the silliest moments in the game. It's also a disservice to their gameplay counterparts; those damn robots have pretty good accuracy.

But why the mission asks you to take the man to the Emerald Hotel? I always presumed he was lost xD

:V He's too dark and badass for their targeting systems.

I also call foul on how his opening cutscene actually shows him being fast, when he is most certainly not in-game.

Those dancing skeletons inside the cells of Red Mountain in SA2. Those things sort of creeped me....

I always thought they were light creatures. They look kind of like mummies made out of rings of light.

They always interested me. A lot. Sonic Adventure had a few things like that.

Yeah what was up with that? O-O There's also giant spiders and bouncy tomb stones. Add the strange, Cypress Hill-esque music and Red Mountain's underground section is possibly the weirdest part in SA1.

All of SA1 was weird, it has a really edgy and sort of urban feel to it that got lost in the Modern games, I really wish they'd go back to that art style.

Twinkle Park is really weird, how do you have a giant amusement park with a floating race course set in space... indoors?? Considering Casinopolis was quite realistic in scale Twinkle Park takes the piss a bit!

Realistic in scale? Hardly! Sonic feels pretty huge in those bathroom stalls and pinball machines. And why is the trash and sewer system under the casino that wide, tall, and extensive? It's ridonculous. =P

I found another strange thing in this series.

Why doesn't Robotnik destroy the platform Sonic is on when they battle.

With an IQ of 300, you think he would just smash the platform, and cause Sonic to plummet to his death. lol

Oh, and that Atari 2600 SE in Sonic Adventure when Sonic is falling from the Tornado. That was random. XD

>In Sonic CD, Robotnik uses a laser beam in the Metal Sonic race which can kill Sonic in one shot

Why is Sonic slower in the 2D sections? It annoys the hell outta me.

Because you can't see ahead of you like you can in 3D.

Though uhh... wasn't it only in Wii/PS2 Unleashed that they noticably slowed him down for 2D?

Yeah, I think it's only Unleashed Wii/PS2 that actually slow him down, but even in the other versions, Generations and Colours you can get the illusion he's slower in 2D. Those games use all sorts of distortion trickery and the vertigo effect to make objects appear further away than they are, thus making it seem as though you're going really fast. But that only works well when you're running into the distance, not to the side.

I don't know about Generations but in Colors Super Sonic seems to actually go faster in 2D than he does in 3D.

Here's another weird thing: speed boosters that make you go slower than your normal running speed. For some reason they usually launch you to a scripted path. You'd think that scrpited events would make Sonic run faster than usual since you're not in control and the game can just do whatever it wants but no. Jumping over the speed pad still launches the scripted event but Sonic's running speed is faster. These are present in Unleashed and Colors. I'm not sure about Generations but it is pretty likely.

Well it failed. Obviously it's no good.

Replicate the Metal Sonic from CD fight/race EXACTLY, but just make the door START closed. Literally all he has to do.

This also happens in Sonic 4, which really breaks the flow of your speed sometimes. And it's not just limited to speed boosters....

Not anymore, considering sonic can now boost :P

Sonic notices closed door from far away ---> sonic boosts while going uphill on the next hill ---> sonic jumps at the last second ---> sonic air-boosts ---> Eggman gets mad because Sonic gets away

Eggman would need to fire the laser horizontally.

Okay, back on topic. the strangest thing to me is during the beginning of the final story of SA1, after Sonic has the first Tikal vision, and the first thing he sees when he 'wakes up' is Tails staring at Sonic with his mouth open as wide as it can go...

Tails plays both Cannon's Core and End of the World first. Rouge's segment of both levels is third from last. The last segment is played by the character who plays in the most Sonic-like fashion (CC has Sonic himself, EotW has Shadow). The first and last segments may be intentional, but I thought it was odd considering it doesn't fucking matter anyway. It's also weird how Knuckles gets like 15 seconds in EotW and Silver gets 2 minutes, such poor pacing.

So a bunch of contrived coincidences that mean nothing!

Also I like how Sonic confronts Eggman in his Egg Carrier when saving Elise after Aquatic Base, and then presumably the two of them calmly strolled outside into the battle arena where Eggman got in the Wyvern and Sonic got on the platforms :P
