What do you want to see in Episode 3?

Idea 5 is the only one they really should be considering.

If they can't get the core gameplay right then the fluffy shit like extra characters and unlockable secrets don't really matter.

yes i know many are wanting better level design and longer levels, but i mean sonic 4 needs more then that. I mean its SONIC 4 its episodical content, we should get some more content, and i should elaborate more on the extra characters, i never included knuckles in there and was mostly just referring to tails. again Tails is able to play the level without any problems  so i was just wishing they would let us play as tails only. i never said extra characters though, i only said playable characters. the closest we got was metal sonic but he really wasnt that different from sonic.

SoniqUpdater, I decided to merge your topic with the existing one about things people want for Episode 3, since they both cover the same purpose. Before making a topic, make sure to do a search to see if there's already a similar one in existence. Also, tighten up your grammar; having proper capitalization is a must here. xP

I had a feeling that the episodes that we have are short because they are a sort of an introduction... Like it were, or a prelude, SEGA is preparing a big surprise behind the scenes for us... Maybe the third episode will be full of great new stuff, and longer acts, longer story in general... Or so I wish!

I would definitely be in support of the time travel gimmick; going back to the 16-bit levels actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. Now THAT would definitely be a nostalgia trip. I would also approve of it just because I want to see Classic Sonic again; he endeared himself to me in Generations as the playful little kid version of Sonic, and it's a shame he's been thrown back into the pit rather than them exploring the possibilities with him.

Though as has been said, really point five is all that would be considered. But then we'd need longer development times, and as far as I can tell Sonic 4 was pretty much meant to be a cash cow... so quality's naturally going to suffer. But who knows, if Iizuka turned the main titles around maybe he could extend his influence into the spinoffs?

For Episode 3 I want to see even more original zones, Knuckles playable and some lengthier music tracks. I loved Episode 2's music but some of the songs are a bit too short. *Glares at White Park Act 3* I'm really curious if an Episode 3 will ever come out, or if we'll get Sonic 5. That touchgameplay post on their Sonic Dash video was intriguing.

Episode III to be released is very likely:

http://www.sonicstadium.org/2013/03/rumour-episode-3-to-be-announced-at-e3/

By the way, original zones are good, however, I think I want new stages, because repeating the same stages shouldn't be more than an 'HD Remeaster' of the classic games, but I believe that the plot should contain going back to places that appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, so we could play the these zones with some suitable changes added to them, and add new stages, which means they'll have to make more than 4 zones (considering the final zone a 'Last Story'), I think there should be at least 6 zones to choose from, or more than a single story, it will be great if Knuckles will have his own story, like in Heroes, there were 7 zones for each team (2 acts and a boss act), they could be considered a little short, but playing slightly different stages with 4 different stories to unlock the Last Story is what made it worth playing to the end.

Let me take my generic role as music techie here for a sec and make my opinions and factoids and whatnot clear.

First off, everyone who calls the instrumentation of Sonic 4 being done by 'soundfonts' are utterly wrong, and I have proof.

As Smash Adams/evilhamwizard has found out, Sonic 4's music is primarily done using the Korg Triton synthesizer - He uses it for live Sonic 4, (Proof:

a really sloppy job, and he's usually much better at piano. ) and I have the same synthesizer, albeit a slightly inferior model, the Korg Triton Le, finding many of Sonic 4's instruments.

This synthesizer is actually referred to as a benchmark of keyboard technology, and is/was used by tons of notable artists. It's really capable of lots of things ("I... I can do a lot of things!" -Sonic) - just that Jun (and me, while you're at it, lul) isn't using it to its full potential. It's got like tons of synths and instruments in it, just that he chooses the worst ones.

Smash also found two other synths being used - Korg Mono/Poly and Arturia Jv2, but quite frankly I don't know too much about those, though I do have the VST version of them.

So yeah... I'd say it's really a lack of effort.

...You know, the Triton also has a sampling functionality... who wants to try convert the Genesis soundfont into Triton format? i kid

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention what I want in E3. I want to see Jun using the better sounds in this synth, (I don't really play the games much nowadays anyway, lul) and trust me, they're pretty good. Also, if he/SEGA really wants to go retro, I'd point him towards FM8, VOPM or stuff like that...

Yeah I guess that counts too...

Okay, as for level design and level tropes... I've never really touched level design, but all I can say is that I definitely prefer Generations Classic over both episodes, so such a direction would be preferred. As for level tropes... Mix stuff up, think of new things, make a thematic progression (example: Time-of-day thing, like Sunburst Shores and Moonlit Metropolis for example) and keep it new and fun.

Art I don't really mind since Episode 2 looks great for a PSN-y game, so level design, tropes and physics are all I can think of right now.

My only request, should an Episode III be confirmed, is that it's the episode that Sega uses to pull the trigger to this bleak chapter of 2D Sonic platformers so that we can move on to greener and less plastic-looking pastures. I don't even think I'll even be able to enjoy whatever PR shenanigans this game has...I don't think it will be the same without the Kenesis. sad.png

I just think they jumped the gun with Sonic 4. Sonic 3K is a damn hard act to follow but its still no excuse. I personally would rather they had gone the Megaman 9/10 route and just done a new sprite based game with all the new tricks and manupulations you can do easily these days without the old 16bit limitations. Even HD sprites would have been fine. But the horrible plastic looking prerendered things we got just looked cheap and nasty.

It amazes me that these days a good percentage of developers seem so out of wack making their own games. Yea the 3D ones have gotten better but how do you go from 3K to what we got with 4?

It's too late to pretend it didn't happen, they can't really replace it easily without redoing the whole thing. But an Episode 3 with a decent amount of care put into it could save the game. But even if that happened it would highlight even more the lack of effort put into the first two parts.

They promised a 3K experience and only delivered a mediocre game that I doubt would have even impressed in the Mega Drive days. Episode 2 looks prettier but that's about it.

They do need an Episode 3, not just to save more face but to finish what they started. The Death Egg didn't explode like all his previous inventions, just got taken offline. There was another episode in the planning at least. And wasn't there some unused content found in the game? To be continued stuff? Knuckles could use a showing too, it is after 3K after all right? Where's he at?

E3 needs to have some quality put into it, not the garbled mess left by the first two episodes.

I'd like an updated version of S3&K. Meaning:

- HD sprites

- recreating the levels, making new designs and passageways as you go along. The basic concepts, but reimagined.

- pulling a Generations and making modern music sound classic.

- Possibly expanding character design

- Some portion of care taken into consideration

- Better story

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

Funny thing is, I actually managed this thing apparently. My keyboard doesn't have the sampling upgrade, but his version should accept it no problems whatsoever. I obviously have no intention on actually sending it to him, but in the off case anyone requests for it, I can upload it.

I'd like:

1) Some fucking originality.

2) Decent level design with no booster spam.

3) Tails and Knuckles playable. By themselves.

4) The ability to roll. No, really, this was so much fun in levels like Casino Night, and they've never nailed it since Advance 3.

5) A game that acts as a sequel, not memory lane.

I know, unrealistic standards.

What I fail to understand is that I'v see some very promising sonic fan games around that stay very true to the original while being new and innovative, and yet the very company that made the original game can't dish out the same. Wheres the sense in that?

I would definitely love to see Knuckles being playable, and I would also love to play as Tails alone too. Also they really need to fix the spin dash and rolling sound because even in Episode 2 they had the two sfx's backwards still. :V I know it's something small, but it really botheres me... Finally I would love to see more original levels, because obviously in Ep. I all the levels were based off of classic ones, while Episode II I thought sort of toned that down a tiny bit.

I want Knuckles to be in it :) Being that he was released in Sonic 3, and likewise, Tails came out in episode 2, and was released in Sonic 2:)

Just my opinion, but they shouldn't even bother with an E3. The name, "Sonic 4" implies it would be a sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, meaning it should have built upon the features of that game. But no, they took away a lot of features, such as the Elemental Shields, and amount of playable characters, worse physics, and a whole bunch of other shit I can rant on and on about. To put it bluntly, Dimps needs to get fired and Sonic Team needs to create a game that is actually worthy of being called Sonic 4. It would be best for them to just pretend Dimps never made their shitty fangame.

Notice how Sonic 2 had all of Sonic 1's features and more.

Notice how Sonic 3 & Knuckles had all of Sonic 2's features and more.

Notice how Sonic 4 umm...had a cool map screen...and umm... erm...

This is the most important thing I want in Sonic 4 Ep 3:

The option to replace the homing attack with instashield

Seriously, I don't like the homing attack, it just makes destroying the enemies easier. But anyways.

I would also like 2 acts and MORE ZONES. I don't want only 4 zones, because they'd probably be based of Zones from S3 and Knuckles in any way. I would, also, like a mix of zones that are based from previous sonic stages and some original ones.

In addition to that, I'd like to be able to look for Giant Rings for Chaos Emeralds (Won't really mind if there aren't any Super Emeralds), and make the stages huge like S3&K. I liked looking for the Giant Rings in those zones in order to get all the Chaos Emeralds (& Super Emeralds), as it gave S3&K more re-playability. It would be nice if we had Super Emeralds back as well so that we can play as Super Tails and Super (and Hyper) Knuckles. Also they should make Hyper Knuckles look considerably different from Knuckles.

And I agree with everyone that DIMPS shouldn't be fully responsible with the game, it's not like they created the genesis games, Sonic Team did.

I know we're all dreaming, but it would be nice if this was all true.

I just want them to retcon Sonic 4, and make like a spiritual succesor to the classics. Have it star classic Sonic, and it should be made by Sonic Team, and not DIMPS for god's sake. I feel like they should use the Hedgehog Engine for graphics, and Havok for physics similar to what they did with Generations, and deliver essentially that classic experience we all know and love, in a Modern world. I think it was Izuika who stated the we won't be seeing classic Sonic for a while, but hey this is just an idea, and I'm done putting my faith in the Sonic 4 franchise, I mean after seeing what they did with Classic Sonic in Generations, I feel like Sega and Sonic Team should take a break from developing a 3D Sonic, and give us a true Sonic 4, and some episodic bull that they dubbed as a sequel, cause I ain't buying that shit anymore.
