I can't beat any expert ghosts on this game no matter who i pick, or how flawlessly i traverse the track in the quickest way, am i doing something wrong? how the fuck do i shave another second off my best time on sunshine tour to beat these ghosts? this is giving me a headache, i've only beat the expert Rogue's Landing ghost!

Sumo crew are machines tongue.png I remember trying to beat the Naughty Dog staff/platinum ghosts in Crash 3 and CTR, Jesus, these guys not only make games, they are insane players too heh

Pick Sonic + Speed mod and do this...

First of all, do a lap of the course and keep your boost. Just as you're crossing the line, use the boost and you'll instantly be given another one when you cross the line. However you'll also be boosting at max speed.

The key to winning Sunshine Tour is the very first turn. When you need to do a drift and turn incredibly sharply, so you fly around the bend as tightly as possible (so experiment with when to take your hand off the gas and when to apply it again.

If you have done it right, you will be ahead of the staff ghost. From this moment on... DO EXACTLY what the staff ghost would do and he will never catch you. Also on one of the long straights you can even use your boost to get further ahead as I find the staff ghost on this one doesn't ever use it's boost.

And try starlight carnival with Metal Sonic + Genesis mod, if you hit every boost pad and do risks boosts for the space bit, chances are you'll destroy the staff ghost.

Also if you have the DLC, Outrun Bay is an incredibly easy course to get expert times on. No really it is.

Eggman with standard stats is pretty good for beating the expert ghosts I found, he's quite popular on the leaderboards so I suggest trying him. Some expert ghosts do require alot of patience, (Billy Hatcher's level is pure evil) but eventually you'll beat them happy.png

P.S. It does kinda suck that you can't see what mods people are using on the leaderboards, would of helped me out a lot.

I'm sure you're only trying to help, but if people are voting for characters we're not going to disqualify any of them. Bear in mind the goal originally was to get at least 3 characters with 1000 votes each. We're way past that now and I'm not sure if I'll take any character over 1000 votes or the top three, but certainly, I'm not discounting anyone at this stage.

When the polls end and the discussion starts - then we'll have to consider many things - but don't let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet!

got it S0L, I was mainly refering to a handful of characters (like tails doll) that were added by random people, and only have a handful of votes. also trying to rally some votes for these guys, its been harder than I thought to rally the votes we need for Fang/Nack than I thought, appearently the sonic community can be quite hard to mobilize

and sketch turner needs votes as well wink.png

So.... if I wanted to then, could I start a pol here on SSMB, and even if the votes didn't hit 1000 (which they won't theres no way), they could still be considered to be put forward due to the whole eligibility thing. For instance, some characters on 'the list' can't ever be put into the game for several reasons, so others that might now have the 1000 votes might get selected based on if they're eligible to be in the game for one reason or another.

If any of that makes sense?

from my point maybe, however it proably wouldnt be considered by the guys on the sega forums, who are the ones who are putting together the final entries, also why dont we just try, and go full steam, try to get votes for some of the good lagging characters who really need them?

for example, Sketch turner is stalled right below 250, and he still needs a ton of votes to make the 1000 signature mark, and a lot of those would proably come if he was properly advertised, same with Fang, he just got added 2,3 days ago, and he is almost at 100, but needs a lot more as well, I would really like to think that the sonic fanbase in general should be able to mobilize on this

also Ristar passed the 1000 signature point

If it's in that thread - and TB is happy to put it in the first post, I'm taking it as agreed with the people running it. Bear in mind I set the challenge - all I want is accurate usable data by the 1st of December.

The challenge was also a test to see if the SEGA community (and I mean SEGA and not Sonic!) could pull together and agree on some characters to give to me to drive a discussion with SEGA. We were seeing lot of posts with lists of 20 characters in them - and that' just useless. If I can go to SEGA and go 'The fans have worked together and agreed and here are their top characters they'd like to see' then it's a different story altogether.

But... you have to pull together. If you spend all your time arguing over which characters are valid, or doing splinter polls, you're just divided and weak. The whole aim was to get you to pull together, we're seeing that for some characters certainly, which is why they are winning :P

2. We don't show a speedo as we have plenty going off on screen as it is, you care about your position, lap, weapons, overall position with other players and all the scoring going off. Besides, we'd have to fake the speed on a speedo as you're actually travelling at over 180mph. Real world scales don't mean much in this game :P

I am still getting destroyed on this and after what happened earlier, I'm on the verge of giving up hope of beating these ghosts. The advice is very helpful, but on the occasions I ace that first set of turns, I stay ahead slightly until the final stretch and the ghost somehow overtakes me, so I'm either failing hard or it's boosting somehow. I'm not sure if I should be trying to drift boost through those last two turns before the end or not, since I get passed either way.

I mean, this is the closest I got to beating it:

EDIT: LOL Beat!

I just attempted this a minute ago. Took awhile but here's what I did. I used Eggman with his console mod. Did everything the Sumo ghost did except for that final long, dark hallway. I used my boost there. After that, I drifted on the very last turn before you exit the hallway, not at the beginning of the S curve. That gave me enough speed to overtake the ghost! It was close though. My winning time was 48.121. ^^; Maybe you could try that? Eggman is pretty quick and has pretty great overall stats.

It's not so bad. It really helps if you end your previous lap with a boost to start the new one at full speed.

Been doing world tour since I been mostly ignoring it. At 156 stars now and just did some expert pursuits. I noticed in a lot of them, the tank doesn't shoot a missile to the very far right of the stage. He shoots all the way to the left side's guardrail but not the right. Been exploiting that so badly!
