I like the werehog design and character quite a bit too. Only, I may prefer him to be a separate character than Sonic. He's different than Knuckles of Vector not only in his abilities but also in his personality. It would be interesting to see what kind of reaction Sonic would have towards his darker and soft self.

His gameplay was enjoyable too. It can be better but I had my share of fun out of it.
