SSMB's virus alert thread. Report strange virus errors here.

I created an account specifically to make this topic and make sure you're all aware of this issue, whether or not I'll stay is still to be decided.

I sometimes google something related to Sonic and there are results linking to somewhere on this website. When I click the link, a large portion of the time I'm redirected to another website, usually with pornographic ads. It doesn't matter if I have adblock enabled at the time, it still happens and the ads are fully visible. This only seems to happen when clicking a link from Google, and usually only happens once or twice per session.

I know I don't have a virus because it only happens on this one website and it doesn't matter what device or browser I'm using. It even happened when I was on my 3DS once.

I have no idea what might be causing it, but I request that you find a way to fix it, especially since the pages I'm redirected to usually contain content which is against your rules.

(this came out uncomfortably formal and blunt so here's an emoticon to make it less so :P)

This has been a problem ongoing for a while. It's a redirect issue that's known to target forums, in which clicking on it would redirect you to something such as an adult site or something that may contain a virus.

Ah, is there any known way to fix it? And any reason I don't have this problem on other forums (aside from dumb luck)?

I haven't had any problems since I bookmarked this page, so I suppose you can access it through your bookmarks.

So if you looked at the link I gave you, when we had to do a small reset with the SSMB after a server error, the issue came back from last year. A better solution is to bookmark it, or access it from anywhere else besides a link.

Or, be like me and make it so when you press the "B Key" it would pop up the site as a suggestion

I know this will probably be ignored but I'm just going to informally request that before anyone posts in this topic that we at least look at the previous one or two pages to see if the issue has been brought up before.  This is far from the first time someone has brought up the issue in the past month, and so it's getting kind of old having to repeat. ^^;

Anyway, yes, this is a known issue that's being worked on and is taking longer than anticipated to deal with due to both the nature of the problem as well as real life things that need to be tended to first.  The reason you're not getting it on other forums is because it's not an issue with your computer, but a problem on our end.  I'm not sure if it's a DNS issue or a Google issue, though.  Anyway, there's no way to "fix" it per se, but you can avoid encountering it yourself by the aforementioned accessing the forums from your bookmarks or simply typing in the address manually.  Alternatively, you can just accept your fate and find yourself an adult friend or store your files on a no-doubt virus-laden malware site.  That might be fun.
