Unpopular Sonic opinions!

I'd say the Archie thing is especially unpopular on here (yes, even moreso than on Sega Forums) because people either care only about the games moreso or grew up with StC, not Archie Sonic. It comes with having a higher proportion of Brits to Americans than most places.

I love, love, love the last series of Sonic X where they're in space and think it's one of the best stories to come out of the Sonic franchise. :)

I disagree. There's way more negatively towards the comics on the Sega forum.

Here people tend to either like the comic or dislike the comic.

On the Sega forum people tend to be down right nasty and make up conspiracy theories about Ian and how he hates Amy and is promoting a SonAlly agenda.

The people here are way more sane.

...sounds like the very definition of one to me. This funny, funny blog entry is author character shilling to the nth degree. And I'm not even getting into her portrayal in the comics yet.

She's a great character I quite agree. And the sheer level of hatred she gets from SonAmy fanbrats in particular is so undeserved. But Mary Sue? In the Archie Comics, she's one through and through.

Oh, come on. We all know Sally is flawless.

What was that guy's name who would always be a real asshole in the archie section there? Red Flame or something?

I though Red Menace was a girl wasn't???

good times, when I used an pairing she didn't really like to explain to people in the forums the concepts of relationship ceiling and status quo...

I almost got in a totally nonsense ship-to-ship combat... I was discussing writing and she was discussing shipping...

glorious day really...

It seems, although this used to be a popular opinion, it's not anymore from what I've seen people say, so out with it: I think that the Modern Sonic gameplay as of Generations is genuinely great (if a little shallow), with it's great level design that balances Unleashed-rocket speed with well-designed platforming, and throws in constantly intertwining multiple paths. Not to say it's perfect or has reached 3d Sonic's full potential yet (with Classic mechanics in 3d and less speed-focused gameplay and such), but that doesn't make it anywhere near bad.

Honestly, I would recommend a Sonic game that had it as it's gameplay as not just a good Sonic game, but a great platformer on it's own. Obviously not a Super Mario Galaxy or Rayman Origins level of amazing platformer, but still awesome.

There's all this Sonic merch right? But it's only ever of Sonic or other characters. There's never any merch with level stuff on it. I've always felt Sonic has been defined in terms of his levels more than his character (aside from being recognisable), and I feel they're missing an opportunity here. I'd totally wear a t-shirt with like Sonic hanging off the Speed Highway helicopter or rockets, or with the intertwining tube paths of Chemical Plant, or even a dramatic moment in Crisis City. Or even the barrel from Carnival Night.

Maybe it's just because Sonic's levels interest me more than the stories, and always have done.

Maybe it's just me? The reason they probably don't do that is because levels are generally less recognisable than characters, though. I suppose I answered myself there.

If I were biting my tongue any harder I'd bite right through it...

Honestly I'm not sure any levels have the kind of appeal, or are known well enough, to make this work aside from GHZ. Mmmaybe Speed Highway if we were back in 1999 or thereabouts...

Im sure Sega has shoved Seaside Hill down our throats enough times to make it somewhat notable.

Chemical Plant is pretty memorable as well, everyone remembers the tubes and the water rising section, and it was dug up for Generations.

Honestly it would have been pretty cool to do a promotion of this sort of thing around the Generations time, during reveals and when it first came out and stuff.

And casino levels are frequent enough that in merch they could be interchangeable, as well as a lot of people remembering Casino Night in Sonic 2...

Other than that though, yeah, levels are not quite memorable enough to people that aren't Sonic fans to be worth it, perhaps.

Seaside Hill, aka Green Hill Zone with some white rocks.

I honestly don't care about Sonic 1 and 2 (Tails can't even fly in that game, whats the point?) Also, I like SA1 much less than SA2. It's just SO dated!

I don't remember Green Hill having an underwater section?

Generationside Hill

SSH is an homage to GHZ. In Generations they had to go out of their way to differentiate the two because for some reason they decided to use both.

Seaside Hill was easily one of the best (if not the best) level in Sonic Heroes. The under level sections that they created in the Generations classic version were quite good. Had a kind of Tidal Tempest feel. I would have preferred a flyable Tails to have been able to explore that level more easily.

Sonic 4 Episode 2 is one of my favorite 2D games in the series. I've replayed the hell out of it.

Seaside Hill is one of my favorite 3D Sonic levels. The design and music make it really memorable.

I enjoyed Sonic Free Riders. Sure the controls arn't perfect but once they worked for me I had a good time with it.

Lava Reef Zone's music is incredibly overrated. It's one of the worst tracks in the game in my opinion just after Carnival Night Zone's music. Both tracks are incredibly dull and uninteresting. They don't feel like they're progressing anywhere or like they even convey something. I listen to both the tracks and it invokes absolutely nothing in me. I feel no sense of joy, excitement, anticipation. Just complete indifference. Only reason why I'd take it over Carnival Night's music tracks is because those tracks actually hurt my ears.

I think Amy was characterized the best in Unleashed. She was still in love with Sonic yes, but she wasn't a crazy fangirl. She was more calm and mellow save the scene were she ran into the Werehog for the first time. She played a good role as just a friend that likes Sonic in Unleashed. She should seriously act more like that.
