Sonic-related pet peeves?

Why is Turkey Shadow being in lesbians with Omega a bad thing? Sega should make that shit canon.

Well...if you want to be technical, Shadow is immortal, and Omega's a robot....they'll literally be the only ones for each other.

I think they sort of did something like this with SA1, with Angel Island.

I said "Since Sonic 06" is when they haven't been doing that, dude. Meaning anything before it isn't included.

When People ask "Why do People Hate Silver the Hedgehog?"

Someone on Tumblr asked the question blindly. I responded with this

Honestly it is because he is a bit of a Marty Sue. Silver’s character is extremely unrealistic to the point of being really painful. And you have Sonic 06 to thank for that. I will break it down fairly to you why he is a very painfully unlikable character for some.

Sonic is originally a freedom fighter from the early 90’s protecting small animals from the evil clutches of Dr. Robotnik. He evolved into the freedom loving and fast paced hedgehog that saves the world on countless occasions, just because his sense of right and wrong is his compass. He is simple and to the point.

Shadow is a biologically engineered creature that was part of a deal between a dark race of aliens and a endearing scientist that wished to make a cure for all ailments and was willing to take shortcuts to do it. It wasn’t until the scientist’s actions were noticed by the government and before he could explain, the colony was attacked and his granddaughter was killed. In his hate and revenge he corrupted and perverted his blessings into killing machines and gave the world an execution sentence. Shadow being the executioner. Shadow overcomes all that and becomes who he wants to be, and how he chooses to live his life.

Silver is a hedgehog from a post apocalyptic future who hates how it is and is easily manipulated by the devil. He is told to kill an innocent life without any proof of him being the cause of the end of the world. He then figures out (after shadow having to roundhouse kick him in the head) that Sonic isn’t a murder, and the devil is …. the devil. He clearly doesn’t think things through as he decides to seal Iblis inside him and instead loses his only true friend without thinking of a real way to deal with him. Because of this, we Lose Blaze the Cat.

It is implied Silver represents hope in this whole future…. Why? What does he know, what can he REALLY do? If he was fighting all his life to survive, why is he naive? If anything he should be the most hardened of the 3 Trio of hedgehogs, able to make rash and direct decisions without emotional attachments. Or the flipside, He is a misguided and insane hedgehog that has no moral compass and is unable to make smart decisions due to his upbringing being paranoid and fearful all the time. I prefer the later.

Because here’s the thing, Why would Silver believe Mephiles? Why would he Trust him? I understand Naive, but… how can you be optimistic when you are told… to murder someone. Saying that it could save the future is not enough, not if he is supposed to be optimistic.

Then the Silver VS Sonic Fight happens, and you realize, he is going to kill Sonic.

This point might seem like a “Duh” moment. But think about it. At the time, we have 15 years of proof that sonic indeed can do anything, can’t truly lose. He always makes the best of what wrong happens. And the fact is, either way when you fight silver, silver comes out on top, and Amy Rose has to save sonic.

So you’re telling me, that Eggman’s HUNDREDS, UPON THOUSANDS OF DEADLY ROBOTS, SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG, GOD MONSTERS, BIOLOGICAL MONSTROSITIES and other things that have confronted sonic. And Silver is the closest one to end him. And in each encounter with Silver and Sonic. Sonic has to be Saved by Amy, then Shadow.

His character is just not written well, and his origins are from Sonic 06. And they haven’t made efforts to change it for him yet.

His only true appearance that has made people begin to like him are in the following two incarnations.

Sonic Generations

and

The Archie Comics

The fact of it all, Why does everyone hate Silver? It is because he hasn’t been shown in a light where we can like him. I want to see a well made Silver, but it probably won’t happen.

I didn't like the homing attack in Adventure 2 or Heroes, a lot of the time I used it I would like go into orbit on the enemies and that would mess me up when I didn't want it to happen.

Here's an old pet peeve: People who throw around the term "Marty Stu/Mary Sue" to mean "a character I don't like" and continue to devalue the term more and more. As if somehow being capable of beating the main character, among many other things like being from the future, representing something like hope and the likes automatically makes them a Sue.

I don't care all that much for Silver sometimes, but if he was a sue he wouldn't be manipulated in the first place. A sue is a character who reeks perfection: everything they do is perfect to the point of being unrealistic. If Silver was a Marty Stu, he would have figured out much faster than he did all game to know that Mephilies was lying, he would have been able to beat Shadow instead of getting kicked in the head after having time get slowed, he wouldn't have had any troubles beating Iblis at least once, and any questionable thing he did would have been accepted by every character there with no issues among them.

Poor Blaze gets afflicted with this quite a lot (replace "the future" with "another dimension").

Speaking of which, I hate it when people say "if Blaze died/went away at the end of 06, how is she in Generations and newer games?" Looks like some people never heard of the Rush games.

Also, people who still believe she went from the future to an alternate dimension despite the fact that there's nothing in Rush or future games to suggest this AND the fact that Iizuka said "she's from another dimension, not the future". And when they try to justify it (e.g. amnesia, written into that dimension's timeline) it comes across like they're grasping for straws.

My personal pet-peeve is the whole concept behind Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. No, I don't mean the fact that they're crossing over in a sports game rather than a platformer; I'm referring to the lack of logical sense in pitting two characters with wildly different superhuman attributes against each other in Olympic events. Unless I'm missing something, I still can't comprehend how Mario is supposed to stand a chance against Sonic in a dash, much less how he somehow actually does stand a chance.

Oh, and don't even get me started on Mario and the triple jump.

Simple: Sonic plays fair and slows down. After all, it wouldn't be sporting if he just blitzed through now, would it?

Totally random nitpick here.

You see this guy based on scientific genius Dr. Eggman?

Sonic_R_Egg_Robo.png

You find him in some echidna themed ancient ruins.

And this guy designed after an echidna that dwells on an island of ancient ruins?

Sonic_RMetal_Knuckles.png

You find him in a base belonging to scientific genius Dr. Eggman.

WHY

The robot Eggman is challenged in an Echidna temple; the robot Echidna is challenged in an Eggman factory.

In Sonic R, Metal Knuckles is unlocked in the Reactive Factory stage while Eggrobo is unlocked in Regal Ruin. It seems like it should really be the other way around. Metal Sonic and Tails Doll however are found in Resort Island and Radical City respectively- the most fitting choices considering their non-robotic counterparts.

Oh. I see, I've never played that much of Sonic R to unlock any of the characters besides Metal Sonic, So I got quite a bit confused.

Also, going on this tangent, those who say that Sonic must hate bathing if he dislikes water. Considering how much Sonic is concerned with his physical appearance if you take into consideration that he often dusts dirt off of his body and shoes in idle animations and the fact that he's pretty arrogant, the notion of him not bathing is a pretty unfounded one me thinks.

So late to reply to this (so much to catch up with in this topic >_>) but don't forget you can make Sonic take a shower in Casinopolis and he looks quite comfortable doing so.

I brought that up on pg. 138.

I just thought of something. Due to the messed up history the Archie comic series has had, I was on a Sonic forum a few years back which had a guy who only followed the comics, not the games. He had a pretty messed up view of the characters, mostly Sonic and Tails.

He used to think Sonic was stealing the spotlight constantly, and that Tails secretly hated Sonic ever since their big fight in #178. He also thought Tails got a kick out of hitting Sonic everytime.

I guess the main point is I hate it when people mis-read the characters when it comes to media outside the games. Sonic is not a spotlight stealer, nor does Tails have a grudge against Sonic or hate him.

  • 2 weeks later...

People who think the 06 gems are the Sol Emeralds due to shape, colour and their location in Soleanna. That doesn't help those who are confused about Blaze's backstory, causing them to make asinine theories about how they supposedly got to the Sol Dimension involving Iblis and time-travel-retcon crap.

Yes, just like in Unleashed, the one time it makes sense for Sonic's friends to help out, they are instead content to just host missions and point out homing shots.

Can anyone say "wasted potential"?

The friends doing absolutely nothing useful in Sonic Generations.
They revived the Sonics through their Chaos Emerald-empowering cheers.

Well uh... Tails did carry me through Chemical Plant that one time. I left the flying to him ;)

But yeah, they really didn't do anything useful at all story-wise. Except for embarrassing me while playing the final boss in the same room as my dad (the repetitive annoying lines spammed over and over made the game look stupid).

You know what's a fucking massive pet peeve of mine?

When people try to say that Sonic Colors is a rip-off of Super Mario Galaxy, or Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing/Transformed is a rip-off of Super Mario Kart, for example. I'm sorry but this is just fucking stupid. The very fact that Sonic is in a car or in space does not dictate that SEGA were trying to rip-off Nintendo's apparently magnificent and totally original ideas. Sonic Colors plays literally nothing like Super Mario Galaxy does, literally nothing like it unless you want to scrape the bottom of the barrel and say that the Drill Wisp is just Drill Mario (which it frickin' well isn't) or something like that. If you're going to complain about Sonic doing something even slightly like something Mario did, then you're gonna have a fucking field day because thanks to Nintendo's whoring out and milking of him, Mario has done everything.

Here's a nice "review" which sums up my thoughts perfectly.

I have to say, I do think Colours was at least loosely inspired by Galaxy. Sort of like SEGA went "oh, Mario in space, eh? I wonder what it would be like if we put Sonic in space" and then went about their work in a totally different way.
