My personal pet peeves;

 

-Knuckles being treated like crap

 

-People hating on Pontac and co for looking up Sonic stuff on Wikipedia (amen Komodin!)

 

- Monster of the Week in the majority of 3D Sonic games, though luckily this isn't as bad as it used to be

 

Speaking of the second point, I want to add;  why does nobody blame SEGA for that? Because it is SEGA's fault for not giving Pontac and co a proper bible or character sheet to read describing the series and its tone and it's their fault that their own script writers are looking up Sonic wiki pages and probably bumping into stuff which is untrue. If they were given a proper bible to read about the Sonic series, then I'm sure they would've written most of the characters even better than SLW and even so I'm impressed they managed to characterise them just right in that one.

In regards to using Wikipedia, I think the main point of contention is that it would probably have been more beneficial if they had sat down and watched cutscenes from the older games to get a "feel" for the characters.

 

I don't agree, either way, though.  Sonic isn't so complex that a Wiki article won't suffice for basic plot and characterization, especially since the era from 1999-2006 was so wishy-washy in those regards that playing them would probably be even more confusing than just looking them up on the internet.

People who say “Tails the Fox.” I can understand if you're not to familiar with the series why you'd make that mistake, but if you've played a decent amount of major Sonic titles, I feel like you should know by now it's Miles Tails Prower. Or at least just call him Tails.

This isn't normally a huge issue with me, but even the Starbomb song “Sonic's Best Pal” makes this mistake. If you're making a parody song involving a series that has a large fan following, it probably best if you say the name correctly, please.

Um.... maybe because there tastes are different then yours. I dont know I just dont like when fans say that. For example:

 

"How can anyone think Silver is a great character?" - I hear this alot in both Sonic 2006 and the character threads. Just because you dont like the character doesnt mean anyone who does has wierd tastes.

 

"How can anyone not say Sonic 3 K is a great game!" - I hear this alot to. Look I think Sonic 3K is OK but Im not going to lie to myself and say its the greatest game ever just because IGN rates it a 9.8. I have my own tastes. And again just because you like the game doesnt mean anyone who hates it is weird.

 

and it makes it unconfortable to talk about characters other then Sonic and other things

Theres nothing wrong with hating the character or thinking hes not to your IQ but.... if others think hes smart then you have no right to tell them they are wrong for there opinion. I have no idea.  I don't think we'll ever know the "full" extent on their research.since none of us were there.

Well actually there is solid evidence to support why he isn't "smart" snd that is from say, a writing perspective. You can think he's smart that's all fine and dandy. But when it comes to his appearance in 06 there is a base for people to support their thoughts.

Presenting things that showed up in the game. - can SOMETIMES be fact as long as people don't skew it.

Well to be fair, when people have been constantly deprived of other playable characters simply because SEGA is too paranoid and scared to use anything except Sonic while coming up with a myriad of excuses to avoid doing so (or is that the fanbase I'm thinking of?), it's not hard to see why they would get a little sick of things as they are.

No it's more or less, after awhile they want to see a different character. Not that they're entirely sick of seeing Sonic but they want to see someone besides him sometimes. I probably didn't explain that well but COMPLETELY not wanting to see him, is probably not what people mean. And if they are tired of seeing him that doesn't mean they don't want to play it. Like Dash and Sonic 2, every other character is just a skin yet people get really excited when new characters come out

Like per say just people wanting to see their favorite characters again, not people who don't Sonic.

No one is tired of playing as Sonic. They're tired of playing as Sonic alone. There's a difference. They want the option - the option - of playing as Tails or Knuckles for a change.

I say people sare saying they are tired of LOOKING at Sonic. I have see people say this here in status in the solo Sonic thread, Im just saying that even with playable friends you are still gonna look at Sonic. People do get very defense about playable friends they dont care if they are force and shove in our faces. As long as the blue hedgehog is not in the spotlight. ;p

 

im not against playable friends. I want them OPTINAL like you say. I dont want to be force to play with them.

I don't think many have said they flat out don't wanna see him or don't want him in the spotlight but rather they just want to see the others playable again.

In Casinopolis, when you're at those slot machines between the shower room (which a casino for some reason has?) and the vault, Tails will often hit the machine again before you're ready, making you have to scramble for the rings which disappear quicker than usual rings.  Otherwise, he'll aim for the machine directly adjacent, making it even harder.  In addition, if you homing attack those slot machines, it will hit one, turn around and aim for the other.

 

I know you don't exactly get that much out of those things anyway, but it's just annoying.

I don't think anyone is literally tired of looking at Sonic. When people say that, they're usually just tired of not having anyone else to look at.

You can never replace Sonic's gameplay, but the most successful games tend to avoid growing stale by adding new things into the mix, including characters, abilities, and limitations.  I can see why some people would be tired of the old formula and would want to have new characters flesh it out.

It's the fanbase you're thinking of.  Sega actually hasn't given a reason why the other characters haven't been playable.

 

I actually think it's because the "shitty friends" stigma is there.  I know it's been nearly 7 1/2 years since Sonic 06, but that's just it though:   After 7 1/2 years, the stigma is still not gone.  Black Knight didn't do nothing to take away and Generations might have unintentionally reinforced it.

 

Which might be most of the reason why "Sonic Boom" is a thing.

Except Sonic '06... and Sonic and the Black Knight... and Sonic Shuffle is pretty derisive in some parts of the fandom... and Sonic Blast... and Sonic Heroes... and Sonic R... and to a more limited extent Sonic Adventure 2.

 

So, uh, no.  They won't accept anything with playable friends.  Sonic Boom looks promising because, unless there's a recent announcement to contradict me which there very well may be, you're allowed to select a character to use his or her own unique skill set.  Not simply by virtue of there being more playable friends.

This is my pet pevee. This kind of quote gets to me. It comes off as I think hat just because "fans" want playable charactets they will accept anything. No I will not accept a game with playable charcters where the gameplay and level design look like shit. This so called "forced" gameplay with other charcters hasn't happened in YEARS. If it not your cup of tea then sit back and wait for the next game.

I missed out on Generations HD and while I settled for Generations 3ds I had to roll with their decisions and look how it paid off for me.

That would be a more appropriate complaint if not for the fact that the execution in two different games will never be the same.  Somethings work better ins some games than in others.  It's not a matter of begrudgingly accepting if it turns out okay in that game.
